Reports: Jets place LB Quincy Williams (shoulder) on IR, trade for Titans CB Jarvis Brownlee

New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams will be placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury and be required to miss at least four games, according to an ESPN report.

He left Sunday’s 29-27 loss at Tampa Bay late in the first half with a left shoulder injury after a Buccaneers offensive lineman landed on him.

Williams, 29, has been a mainstay in the middle of the Jets defense since he was claimed by New York ahead of the 2021 season when Jacksonville placed the former third-round pick on waivers after just two seasons.

He has surpassed 100 total tackles and 70 solo tackles in each of his first four seasons in New York, earning a first-team All-Pro honor in 2023. He has made 72 starts in 86 career games, recording 545 tackles, 55 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 23 pass breakups, 10 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one interception.

In the wake of this IR move, the Jets have reportedly signed linebacker Mark Robinson, 26, off the New England practice squad. He has appeared in 41 games (four starts) and tallied 48 tackles and three forced fumbles with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2022-24) and Patriots.

Also on Tuesday, multiple media outlets reported the Jets have acquired cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. from the Tennessee Titans. New York also is getting a 2026 seventh-round pick and giving up a sixth-rounder.

Brownlee, 24, was selected by the Titans in the fifth round of the 2024 draft out of Louisville. He has 92 career tackles and one interception in 19 games (16 starts), including 17 tackles in two starts for Tennessee this season.

Jets’ Sauce Gardner (head), Quincy Williams (shoulder) hurt vs. Bucs

New York Jets top cornerback Sauce Gardner and standout linebacker Quincy Williams exited Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with injuries and will not return.

Williams suffered a left shoulder injury in the final minute of the first half when a Tampa Bay offensive lineman fell on him. He was ruled out in the third quarter.

Gardner was lost to a concussion after assisting on a tackle of Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving midway through the fourth quarter.

Gardner was examined in the medical tent and later was helped to the locker room with 5:14 remaining. New York ruled him out shortly thereafter.

Williams, 29, recorded more than 100 tackles in each of the past four seasons and was first-team All-Pro in 2023. Williams had four tackles (one for loss) and shared a sack before his departure.

Gardner had five stops against the Buccaneers. The two-time Pro Bowler is in his fourth NFL season and has three career interceptions.

Report: Jets LB Quincy Williams wins appeal of $45,020 fine

New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams won his appeal of a $45,020 fine for his hit on Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren in Week 7, NFL Network reported Thursday.

The fine was rescinded in full by NFL appeals officer Derrick Brooks, a former linebacker and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Williams tackled Warren with the Steelers facing first-and-goal at the Jets’ 3-yard line with 8:40 left in the third quarter of Pittsburgh’s 37-15 home victory on Oct. 20. Williams was not penalized on the play, but the league later fined him for unnecessary roughness/use of helmet.

Williams, 28, has 80 tackles, one sack, six tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in starting all 11 games.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Murray State. Williams has 494 career tackles, eight sacks, 45 tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits, one interception, eight forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in 77 games (63 starts) for the Jaguars (2019-20) and Jets (2021-present).

Williams signed a three-year, $18 million contract before the 2023 season.

Jets rookie DE Jermaine Johnson (ankle) out vs. Packers

New York Jets rookie defensive end Jermaine Johnson has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the host Green Bay Packers.

“Jermaine, dealing with his ankle, is going to be out. He’s going to be evaluated daily, so we’ll see where he’s at next week,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said on Friday morning. “Everybody else will be a full participant (in practice).”

Johnson, 23, has recorded 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks in five games since being selected by New York with the 26th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Report: Jets LB Quincy Williams fined $10K for late hit

New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams was fined $10,609 for a late hit out of bounds on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, NFL Network reported Saturday.

The incident occurred in a preseason game on Aug. 12 when Hurts already had stepped out of bounds, taking the full force of Williams’ blow to the left shoulder. Williams also appeared to make contact with Hurts’ facemask.

Williams drew a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness on the play and also drew the ire of his own coach, Robert Saleh.

“I talked to Quincy after the game,” Saleh said. “Egregiously awful from Quincy, and he knows that. He knows better. It’s one thing to make a mistake in a game, it’s another thing to make a mistake that leads to points, touchdowns.”

The play happened on the Eagles’ opening drive and Philadelphia went on to score a touchdown.

“I should’ve (slowed) down. It was dumb on me,” Williams said, according to ESPN. “… It was like of like one of those learning moments. Just let up. I wasn’t paying attention to where the sideline was.”
