Reports: Raiders signing veteran RB Raheem Mostert

The Las Vegas Raiders are signing veteran running back Raheem Mostert to a one-year, $1.2 million contract, according to multiple reports on Thursday.

The free agent is reunited with the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who was the head coach in San Francisco in 2016 when Mostert played for the 49ers. Kelly also was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles when Mostert was briefly on the practice squad in 2015.

The Miami Dolphins released Mostert, who turns 33 in April, in February and saved $2.9 million in salary cap space.

Mostert joined Miami in 2022 and enjoyed his finest season in 2023, rushing for 1,012 yards and leading the NFL with 21 touchdowns from scrimmage. He was selected to the Pro Bowl.

Playing behind second-year back De’Von Achane in 2024, Mostert split backup duties with rookie Jaylen Wright and rushed for 278 yards and two TDs in 13 games (one start).

Undrafted in 2015, Mostert has rushed for 3,791 yards and 34 touchdowns in 103 games (39 starts) for the Dolphins (2015, 2022-24), Baltimore Ravens (2015), Cleveland Browns (2015), Chicago Bears (2016) and San Francisco (2016-21).

The Raiders’ top rushers last season, Alexander Mattison (420 yards, four touchdowns) and Ameer Abdullah (311, two), are unrestricted free agents. Mostert could head the depth chart ahead of Zamir White, Sincere McCormick and Chris Collier.

Dolphins releasing veteran RB Raheem Mostert

The Miami Dolphins have informed running back Raheem Mostert that he will be released, his agent said Friday.

The Dolphins will clear $2.9 million in salary cap space by parting ways with the former Pro Bowler, who turns 33 in April.

Mostert joined Miami in 2022 and enjoyed his finest season in 2023, rushing for 1,012 yards and leading the NFL with 21 touchdowns from scrimmage.

Playing behind second-year back De’Von Achane in 2024, Mostert split backup duties with rookie Jaylen Wright and rushed for 278 yards and two TDs in 13 games (one start).

“Looks like my client Raheem Mostert will be playing elsewhere next season,” agent Brett Tessler wrote on X. “Very thankful for his time with the Miami Dolphins, and this gives them a chance to get younger and gives him a chance to pursue a ring elsewhere.”

Undrafted in 2015, Mostert has rushed for 3,791 yards and 34 touchdowns in 103 games (39 starts) for the Dolphins (2015, 2022-24), Baltimore Ravens (2015), Cleveland Browns (2015), Chicago Bears (2016) and San Francisco 49ers (2016-21).

Dolphins expect to be without RB Raheem Mostert again

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is “pessimistic” about running back Raheem Mostert’s return from a chest injury on Sunday.

Mostert, 32, sustained the injury in the Week 1 win against Jacksonville and sat out last weekend’s loss to Buffalo. He has been limited in practice this week.

“I am an optimistic person and so I would say I’d be pessimistic that he’d play,” McDaniel told reporters on Friday. “Which is telling, but I can’t rule it out.”

Mostert’s expected absence — and the loss of starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to injured reserve — likely means another heavy workload awaits running back De’Von Achane on Sunday against the host Seattle Seahawks.

Achane had 29 touches (22 carries, seven receptions) for 165 yards and one touchdown in the 31-10 loss against the Bills in Week 2.

Mostert rushed six times for 9 yards before leaving the season-opening 20-17 win over the Jaguars. He made the Pro Bowl in 2023 after posting his first 1,000-yard rushing season (1,012) and leading the NFL with 18 touchdowns on the ground.

Skylar Thompson will be the quarterback for the Dolphins (1-1) against the Seahawks (2-0), his first regular-season start since Week 18 of the 2022 campaign.

Dolphins patient with De’Von Achane, rule out Raheem Mostert

The Miami Dolphins will take a wait-and-see approach with respect to whether running back De’Von Achane plays in Thursday’s game against the visiting Buffalo Bills.

Achane is dealing with an ankle injury after touching the ball 17 times in Miami’s 20-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He had 10 carries for 24 yards and a touchdown to go along with seven catches for 76 yards.

“We’ll see how it plays out,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said of Achane, who has been held out of practice this week.

Running back Raheem Mostert, however, has been ruled out for Thursday’s contest after sustaining a chest injury in the season opener. Mostert gained 19 yards from scrimmage prior to the injury.

“His injury, not many people play with. … He showed his toughness,” McDaniel said.

Jeff Wilson Jr. and fourth-round draft pick Jaylen Wright likely will see playing time should Achane sit out on Thursday.

Wilson had five carries for 26 yards on Sunday. Wright was ruled inactive for that game.

Reports: Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert to sit out vs. Ravens

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert is not expected to play on Sunday against the host Baltimore Ravens because of knee and ankle injuries, multiple media outlets reported.

Rookie De’Von Achane and Jeff Wilson Jr. likely will see the bulk of the rushing responsibilities in place of Mostert, who leads the NFL with a franchise-best 18 rushing touchdowns. Mostert shares the NFL lead with 21 total touchdowns to go along with a career-high 1,012 rushing yards.

Mostert officially was listed as questionable after being limited in practice on Friday and head coach Mike McDaniel pointing to limited explosiveness laterally and making cuts.

The Dolphins (11-4) officially ruled out wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (ankle).

Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill, Raheem Mostert miss practice

Miami Dolphins offensive weapons Tyreek Hill (hip) and Raheem Mostert (ankle) both missed practice Wednesday, with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hinting that the speedy Hill could miss some time.

Hill spent time in the injury tent during last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but he returned to the game.

“If we couldn’t have Tyreek, that would be tough, but the show goes on,” Tagovailoa told reporters Wednesday. “Somewhere down the line, we’re going to get Tyreek back.”

Added about Hill, fellow wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, himself limited Wednesday with a back injury, said, “That’s above my pay grade.”

The Dolphins host the New England Patriots Sunday.

Hill leads the NFL in receiving yards (902) and receiving touchdowns (seven) on 53 catches.

Mostert leads the NFL with nine rushing TDs. He has 11 total TDs. He’s averaging 5.6 yards per carry for 474 yards total.

Free safety Jevon Holland (concussion) and fullback Alec Ingold (foot) also missed practice Wednesday. Another eight were limited, including Waddle, DBs Xavien Howard (groin), Kader Kohou (neck), Nik Needham (Achilles), Jalen Ramsey (knee) and Cam Smith (foot), and OL Connor Williams (groin).

Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert to sign 2-year contract

The Miami Dolphins are re-signing Raheem Mostert to a two-year contract, his agent announced Tuesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed by Mostert’s agent Brett Tessler, but ESPN reported the deal is worth up to $7.6 million with incentives.

Mostert, 30, posted career-high totals in carries (181) and rushing yards (891) to go along with three touchdowns in 16 games last season with the Dolphins. He also had personal bests in catches (31) and receiving yards (202) in addition to finding the end zone on two occasions in the passing game.

Mostert followed head coach Mike McDaniel to Miami after spending over five years as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

Mostert has totaled 465 carries for 2,501 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground in 65 games for the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, 49ers and Dolphins.

Report: Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert has broken thumb

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert broke his thumb in Sunday’s playoff-clinching win and his status is in doubt for this week’s playoff game, NFL Network reported Monday.

The Dolphins play at Buffalo on Sunday in an AFC Wild Card game.

The Dolphins are also uncertain who their quarterback will be. Tua Tagovailoa remains in concussion protocol and primary backup Teddy Bridgewater suffered a broken pinkie finger last week, missing the game against the Jets. Third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson guided Miami past the Jets.

Mostert rushed for 71 yards on 11 carries in Miami’s 11-6 win over the New York Jets on Sunday. It’s unclear when or how he suffered the injury.

Jeff Wilson would likely ascend to RB1 in place of Mostert if he’s unable to go. Wilson rushed for 72 yards against the Jets.

Mostert led the Dolphins in rushing, finishing with 891 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games (14 starts), averaging 4.9 yards per rush. He also caught 31 passes for 202 yards and two TDs.
