Reports: Chiefs’ Rashee Rice jailed for probation violation

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice was ordered to serve 30 days in jail after violating his probation with a positive test for marijuana, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday.

Rice was booked Tuesday afternoon in Dallas County, Texas, and is due to be released on June 16. The timeline means he will miss organized team activities and a mandatory minicamp.

Kansas City’s KSHB 41 News broke the story and obtained a copy of the court documents, which show that Rice tested positive for THC.

The Chiefs have yet to comment.

Rice was on probation for his role in a street-racing crash that left multiple people injured on a Dallas highway in March of 2024. He pleaded guilty last July to two third-degree felonies and was sentenced to five years of probation and deferred adjudication on a 30-day jail sentence.

The NFL suspended Rice for six games to start the 2025 season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Rice, 26, caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns in eight games last season. A second-round pick by the Chiefs in 2023, Rice has 156 receptions for 1,797 yards and 14 scores in 28 career games.

Court orders Rashee Rice’s co-defendant to pay $2.88M

A Texas court ruled former SMU cornerback Theodore “Teddy” Knox was “grossly negligent” in a 2024 street racing crash in Dallas that involved Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice.

Judge Kim Bailey Phipps issued a default judgment of $2.88 million on Wednesday against Knox for the accident in which both men lost control of their vehicles in an accident that left several people injured.

The judgment awarded to Kathryn Kuykendall, one of the victims, includes punitive damages and costs for medical expenses and lost wages.

Rice, who is scheduled to go to trial in the matter on June 9, started the 2025 season by serving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy stemming from his role in the crash on March 30, 2024.

He pleaded guilty in district court to two third-degree felony charges — collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. Rice and four of his friends failed to check on the injured parties and fled on foot before police arrived.

Rice was sentenced to five years of deferred probation, and 30 days in jail. He also was required to pay more than $115,000 in restitution to the victims of the crash.

Rice, 25, was driving a rented Lamborghini SUV at speeds up to 119 mph at the time of the accident. Knox was driving a rented Corvette.

A second-round pick by Kansas City out of SMU in 2023, Rice has recorded 156 catches for 1,797 yards and 14 scores in 28 games (20 starts) over his first three NFL seasons.

In January, the court issued default judgments against Knox totaling more than $3.6 million for two other victims in the case. Knox played for two seasons with the Mustangs (2022-23) after one season at Mississippi State.

Chiefs’ Rashee Rice accused of assault in civil suit by mother of his children

A former girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice filed a civil lawsuit this week in Texas alleging that he assaulted her during a span from December 2023 to July 2025.

Dacoda Jones, with whom Rice has two children and said she was pregnant during many of the alleged assaults, filed the suit on Monday in Dallas County, Texas. She is seeking monetary damages of more than $1 million, according to attorney Ron Estefan.

Per the lawsuit, Rice and Jones allegedly lived together in Victory Park, Texas, and Lee’s Summit, Mo. Jones, in the lawsuit, said Rice strangled her in December 2023, and that between 2023 and 2025, he “grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as hit her with inanimate objects.”

According to the lawsuit, Rice displayed violent behaviors, including “throwing objects, destroying property, punching walls, and breaking furniture, as well as locking her out in the middle of the night.”

As part of the damages in the lawsuit, Jones claimed physical pain and mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement, previous and future medical care and loss of earnings.

One of Jones’ attorneys declined comment to ESPN. Rice, who has not been charged criminally in this matter, and his agents had not responded to attempts by The Athletic and ESPN for comment.

“The club is aware (of the lawsuit) and remains in communication with the National Football League,” the Chiefs said in a statement Wednesday.

Jones posted photos on her Instagram account on Jan. 7 that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She also alleged abuse that spanned years.

“I’m so tired of keeping quiet I’m so tired of protecting his image,” Jones wrote in a since-deleted post. “I’ve been through enough in the span of 8 years and I’ve had ENOUGH! I’ve dealt with abuse for years, me and this man decided to break up a couple months ago and it’s been nothing but hell.

“He literally left us in Kansas and I had to beg him to send money so that I could drive to Texas with my kids and all our stuff,” she wrote. “We have an agreement because of everything he’s put me through and he still doesn’t follow it. He’s now trying to remove me and my kids from our home for no apparent reason. I’ve known this man for YEARS. He tries to put on this persona like he’s dad of the year. He does the bare minimum and I have to beg for that. I’ve protected his image too long and I’m done doing that. It’s time to protect my peace, protect my children and stand up for myself.”

The NFL said on Wednesday, “The matter remains under review.”

Rice, 25, started the 2025 season by serving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy stemming from his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas that left several people injured during the 2024 season. He pleaded guilty in district court to two third-degree felony charges — collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.

The crash ultimately involved six vehicles. Rice and four of his friends didn’t check on those injured and instead fled on foot before police arrived.

Chiefs ‘aware’ of allegations of abuse by Rashee Rice’s ex-girlfriend

The Kansas City Chiefs are aware of domestic violence allegations made by an ex-girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice.

The Chiefs’ statement did not mention Rice by name but was released after the woman — with whom Rice has two children — accused an unnamed former partner of abuse in a social media post.

“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Dacoda Nichole Jones posted photos on her Instagram account that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She also alleged abuse that spanned years.

“I’m so tired of keeping quiet I’m so tired of protecting his image. I’ve been through enough in the span of 8 years and I’ve had ENOUGH! I’ve dealt with abuse for years, me and this man decided to break up a couple months ago and it’s been nothing but hell,” Jones wrote.

I’ve protected his image too long and I’m done doing that. It’s time to protect my peace, protect my children and stand up for myself.”

Per ESPN, Rice hasn’t been charged in either Kansas or Texas in connection with the woman’s allegations.

Season of Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (concussion) parked in pit row

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season after just eight appearances.

Rice missed the first six games due to a suspension and will miss the last three with a concussion. He sat out last week’s loss to the Tennessee Titans due to the injury that led him to the IR.

Rice, 25, caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs (6-9) fashioned a 3-5 record in his appearances. He owns 156 receptions for 1,797 yards and 14 scores in 28 regular-season games (20 starts) over three seasons with Kansas City. He also caught six passes for 39 yards when Kansas City defeated San Francisco in overtime to capture Super Bowl 58.

Rice’s suspension was due to violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, which stemmed from his role in a multi-car crash on a Dallas freeway in March 2024 that left multiple people injured.

Earlier this year, Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges. He received deferred adjudication on a 30-day jail sentence, and the case will be dismissed if he complies with the terms of his probation.

The Chiefs also placed receiver Tyquan Thornton (concussion) and cornerbacks Trent McDuffie (knee) and Jaylen Watson (groin) on IR on Wednesday, one day before they host the Denver Broncos.

Tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring) also was ruled out while tackle Jaylon Moore (knee) and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (illness) are questionable.

Fourth-year quarterback Chris Oladokun, who threw his first NFL passes last week, will make his first start against Denver with Patrick Mahomes (ACL) and Gardner Minshew (lower leg) out for the season.

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice enters procotol after self-reporting symptoms

Rashee Rice reported concussion symptoms to the Kansas City Chiefs and entered league-mandated protocol, putting his availability for Sunday’s game at Tennessee in doubt.

Rice leads wide receivers on the Kansas City roster with 53 receptions despite serving a six-game NFL suspension to begin the regular season. The Chiefs already are taking the field in Week 16 without quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who had reconstructive left knee surgery this week and is out for the season.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Rice reported his symptoms to the team on Monday as part of a standard follow-up with trainers following the Sunday loss to the Los Angeles Chargers that spun the team’s record to 6-8 this season. It was last season against the Chargers (Sept. 29, 2024) when Rice went down with a season-ending ACL tear.

Reid said Tyquan Thornton (concussion) also was not available for practice on Wednesday. Hollywood Brown was inactive last week and has only 10 receptions since Rice returned to the active roster on Oct. 19.

Tight end Travis Kelce leads the Chiefs with 67 receptions.

Remember me? Rashee Rice stars in KC return

Wide receiver Rashee Rice scored two touchdowns in his first game in more than a year, putting quarterback Patrick Mahomes back in his comfort zone in the Chiefs’ 31-0 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.

Rice caught seven passes for 42 yards and two touchdowns, debuting in 2025 following a six-game suspension for off-field conduct related to his role in a drag-racing incident in Texas. His 2024 season ended with a torn ACL last September.

“It was great to have him back,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “I think you saw the trust that Pat (Mahomes) has in him, which is so important… It was great to have him back in there. The energy he brings is tremendous.”

Mahomes said he and Rice were “a little off” on a few particular plays but credited Rice for the diligent work he’s put in since tearing his ACL in 2024.

“It meant a lot more today. You don’t really notice how much you love something until it’s gone or possibly could be gone,” Rice said. “I was able to get a glimpse of that. I don’t ever want to feel that again.”

Mahomes and Reid said there’s a good chance Rice will only get more involved each week.

“When it comes to the way he moves, the way he runs routes, I have a good feel for where he wants the ball and where to throw it to,” Mahomes said. “He’s been working.”

Suspension over for Chiefs WR Rashee Rice

Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice’s six-game NFL suspension ended following Kansas City’s 30-17 victory against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night.

The former second-round draft pick is eligible to return to practice this week. He could see his first action since tearing his right ACL in Week 4 of the 2024 season when the Chiefs (3-3) host the Las Vegas Raiders (2-4) on Sunday.

Rice, 25, accepted his six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy on Aug. 27.

In July, Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges for his role in a multicar crash in Dallas in 2024 that left several people injured. He received deferred adjudication on a 30-day jail sentence, and the case will be dismissed if he complies with the terms of his probation.

The No. 1 receiver for the Chiefs to begin the 2024 season, Rice had 24 receptions when he suffered a season-ending knee injury on Sept. 29. As a rookie in 2023, he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns.

In Rice’s absence, Hollywood Brown has recorded a team-high 30 receptions for 302 yards and three touchdowns this season. Fellow wideout Tyquan Thornton also has three TD catches, and All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce tops the squad with 321 receiving yards on 28 grabs.

Reports: NFL pushing Rashee Rice six-game ban beginning Week 1

Rashee Rice could be suspended six games effective immediately if the Chiefs wide receiver agrees to accept terms of the NFL ban, ESPN reported Wednesday.

Rice and the league are set for a disciplinary hearing Sept. 30 in New York, but could meet prior to that if the 25-year-old accepts the terms of the league’s reported preference for suggested punishment under terms of the personal conduct policy.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement entitles Rice a hearing before a disciplinary officer jointly approved by the NFL and NFLPA. Former U.S. district judge Sue L. Robinson is scheduled for the Sept. 30 hearing centered around Rice pleading guilty to two third-degree felony charges for his role in a multicar crash in Dallas that left multiple people injured in 2024.

If no agreement on the terms of his NFL-levied punishment is reached, ESPN reported Rice is permitted to play Sept. 5 in Brazil in Kansas City’s regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, and the three other games prior to his sitdown with Robinson: Sept. 14 vs. Philadelphia, Sept. 21 at the NY Giants and Sept. 28 vs. Baltimore.

Accepting the six-game suspension would disqualify Rice from those four games in addition to Oct. 6 at Jacksonville and a home game against Detroit on Oct. 12.

He would be eligible to return Oct. 19, when the Chiefs entertain the Las Vegas Raiders.

Rice entered the plea for collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was granted deferred adjudication on a 30-day jail sentence, and the case will be dismissed if he complies with the terms of his probation.

The No. 1 receiver for the Chiefs to begin the 2024 season, Rice had 24 receptions when he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4. As a rookie in 2023, he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns.

Chiefs WR Rashee Rice (groin) misses practice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice did not participate in practice at training camp on Wednesday.

Rice is dealing with a groin injury, according to the team.

The third-year wideout was spotted working on the sidelines with trainers and receiver Hollywood Brown (ankle).

Rice, 25, sat out the majority of the 2024 season after suffering a torn ligament (LCL) in his right knee that required season-ending surgery. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had thrown an interception and dove into Rice’s leg as they were attempting to make a tackle.

Over the first three weeks, Rice was among the top receivers in the league with two touchdowns and 288 receiving yards (an average of 96 per game).

In 20 career games, the 2023 second-round pick out of SMU has recorded 1,226 receiving yards, 103 receptions and nine touchdowns over his first two seasons with the Chiefs.

Rice is still awaiting news of a potential NFL suspension after he caused a multi-car crash in Dallas in March 2024. He pleaded guilty in July to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. Rice was sentenced to five years of probation (deferred), 30 days in jail, and required to pay approximately $115,000 in medical expenses for the victims.

He also agreed separately to a $1.086 million settlement in a civil case.

“I’ve completely changed,” Rice said at training camp. “You have to learn from things like that.”
