Richard Sherman’s bail set at $5K after DUI bust

Former NFL All-Pro Richard Sherman was set to bond out of jail on Monday after a weekend arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

After spending the weekend at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle, Sherman’s bail was set at $5,000 in a hearing Monday morning. Sherman waived his right to appear at the bail hearing, the Seattle Times reported.

Sherman’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.

Sherman is not allowed to drive prior to the hearing, with the judge also ordering Sherman not to consume alcohol or prescription drugs, or refuse blood or breath tests before Wednesday, per the report.

Sherman, 35, was stopped around 2 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 405 in a Seattle suburb allegedly driving 79 mph in a 60-mph zone, the Times reported, citing an arrest report.

Per the report, he told Washington State Police troopers that he had consumed two margaritas. While refusing to take a breathalyzer test, he agreed to voluntary tests, and the troopers saw signs that Sherman was under the influence, The Times said.

A member of the NFL’s all-decade team for the 2010s, Sherman was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All-Pro defensive back.

Selected in the fifth round by Seattle out of Stanford, he played 11 NFL seasons for the Seahawks (2011-17), San Francisco 49ers (2018-20) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2021). He recorded 37 interceptions, returned three for touchdowns, forced five fumbles and recovered seven while totaling 495 tackles in 144 games (136 starts).

Sherman has been an analyst for the Amazon Prime Thursday night pregame and postgame shows for two seasons, and he joined Fox Sports’ “Undisputed” talk show in 2023.

He pleaded guilty on March 7, 2022, to first-degree negligent driving, second-degree criminal trespass and speeding in a construction zone in a July 2021 incident in Redmond, Wash., a Seattle suburb. According to media reports, he received a 90-day suspended sentence with two years of monitored supervision, and the two-year period has not expired.

Amazon officially names Richard Sherman TNF studio analyst

Veteran NFL cornerback Richard Sherman will be a studio analyst for Amazon’s new “Thursday Night Football” broadcast in 2022.

The agreement, first reported last month, will see Sherman, 34, contribute to pregame, halftime and postgame coverage of Thursday NFL games — most of which will be streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime for the first time.

The loquacious five-time All-Pro has not retired from his playing career, though, telling the NFL Network that he was “still leaving that door open as long as I can.”

“If somebody wants to call late December, and needs some help, I’m happy to help,” Sherman said.

Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez, who has previously worked for CBS and Fox, will also be a part of Amazon’s first foray into football.

Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit were previously revealed as the play-by-play and commentary team. Herbstreit will remain in his college football roles at ESPN while adding Amazon to his resume. Michaels agreed to an “emeritus” role at NBC Sports, but Thursday games will be his main role in the 2022 season.

Sherman, best known for his role in the “Legion of Boom” Seattle Seahawks defense in the early 2010s, last played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for five games in 2021 while battling multiple injuries. He has totaled 495 tackles, 37 interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries in 144 career games (136 starts) with Seattle, the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay.

Buccaneers CB Richard Sherman on IR, out for playoffs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed veteran cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve Tuesday for the second time in 2021-22, meaning his season is over.

Sherman has been bothered by an Achilles injury that kept him out of the Bucs’ final two games of the regular season.

Earlier this season, Sherman injured his calf while warming up for a Nov. 14 game against the Washington Football Team, which led to his first IR stint.

After signing with the defending Super Bowl champions in late September, Sherman, 33, only saw the field in five games (three starts). He finished the year with 11 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

A three-time All-Pro, Sherman has appeared in 144 career games (136 starts) in 11 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks (2011-17), San Francisco 49ers (2018-20) and Buccaneers. He has 495 tackles, 37 interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Also Tuesday, Tampa Bay activated outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett and practice squad kicker Jose Borregales from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Barrett has a team-leading 10 sacks.

The NFC South champion Buccaneers are the No. 2 seed in the conference and will host a playoff game against the No. 7 Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Buccaneers activate CB Richard Sherman from IR

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers activated cornerback Richard Sherman on Friday, clearing him to play Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

They also activated long snapper Zach Triner from the reserve/COVID-10 list.

Sherman was designated to return on Wednesday.

The veteran Sherman is three-time All-Pro at cornerback. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said on Monday that Sherman would begin crosstraining at safety upon his return to practice.

Sherman sustained a calf injury while warming up for a game against the Washington Football Team on Nov. 14. That day, he was set to make his fourth start since joining the team in late September.

The 33-year-old Stanford product has appeared in 142 career games (136 starts) in 10-plus seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Buccaneers. He has 495 tackles, 36 interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

On the season, Sherman has 11 tackles and one fumble recovery for four yards.

Also, safety Jordan Whitehead (calf) was ruled out Friday and will miss his second straight game.

The Buccaneers (9-3) could clinch a playoff spot — or even the NFC South division title — with a win against the Bills (7-5) and some help from other teams.

Bucs CB Richard Sherman designated to return from IR

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman has been designated to return from injured reserve on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, Buccaneers wide receiver Justin Watson was designated to return from the physically unable to perform list.

The designations open a 21-day window to practice for both players to be activated to the 53-man roster.

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said on Monday that Sherman would begin crosstraining at safety upon his return to practice.

Sherman sustained a calf injury while warming up for a game against the Washington Football Team on Nov. 14. He was set to make his fourth start since joining the team in late September.

The 33-year-old Stanford product has appeared in 142 career games (136 starts) in 10-plus seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Buccaneers. He has 36 interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Watson, 25, has been sidelined the entire season by a knee injury. He has 23 receptions for 258 yards and two touchdowns in 39 career games with the Buccaneers.

MRI reveals calf strain for Buccaneers CB Richard Sherman

An MRI showed a Grade 2 calf strain for Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman, who will miss at least a few weeks because of the injury, NFL Network reported Tuesday night.

Sherman sustained the injury while warming up for Sunday’s game against the Washington Football Team. He was set to make his fourth start since joining the team in late September.

The 33-year-old Stanford product has appeared in 142 career games, starting 136, in 10-plus seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Buccaneers. He has 36 interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Tampa Bay has been beset by injuries in its secondary this season. Sean Murphy-Bunting (elbow), Carlton Davis (quadriceps) and Dee Delaney (concussion) all have missed time in recent weeks.

Bucs CB Richard Sherman (calf) to miss games

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman is going to miss a few games after injuring his calf during pregame warmups Sunday against the Washington Football Team.

“I doubt seriously if he’ll be back anytime soon,” Bucs coach Bruce Arians said Monday.

Sherman, 33, was set to play in his first game in a month after missing the past three games with a hamstring injury. The five-time Pro Bowl selection was not on the injury report heading into Washington.

“He was fine Thursday and Friday,” Arians said. “I thought he was going to have a heck of a ballgame. He just stained his calf before the ballgame, so don’t know how long it’ll be.”

However, The Athletic reported that Sean Murphy-Bunting could come off injured reserve this week and be available to play against the New York Giants in Week 11. Murphy-Bunting dislocated his right elbow during Tampa Bay’s season-opening game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Sherman joined the Bucs midseason to bolster a secondary hit hard by injuries, including Murphy-Bunting. He started three games and was credited with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery.

The Bucs dropped to 6-3 following a 29-19 loss to Washington.

Richard Sherman (hamstring) to avoid IR

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman will miss a couple of weeks but is expected to avoid being placed on injured reserve after injuring his hamstring last week.

An MRI confirmed the initial diagnosis. Sherman said on his podcast that it’s “nothing too serious” and that he expects to miss “at most a couple weeks.”

He recorded one tackle before exiting in the first quarter of the Buccaneers’ 28-22 win against the Eagles on Thursday night.

Sherman, 33, made his Bucs debut against the New England Patriots on Oct. 3. The five-time Pro Bowl selection has 11 tackles and one fumble recovery this season.

The Tampa Bay secondary has been hard hit by injuries this season, with each member of the starting unit missing time. Cornerbacks Sean Murphy-Bunting (dislocated elbow) and Carlton Davis III (quad) are on injured reserve.

The Bucs (5-1) host the Chicago Bears (3-3) in Week 7.
