Titans WR Calvin Ridley, OLB Arden Key to sit out vs. Patriots

The Tennessee Titans ruled out receiver Calvin Ridley and outside linebacker Arden Key for Sunday’s home game against the New England Patriots.

Ridley (hamstring) was injured in last week’s 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and didn’t practice this week. Key (quadriceps) will miss second straight game. He was injured during a 22-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 and sat out against the Raiders.

Ridley, 30, has 16 receptions for a team-high 290 yards. Key, 29, has 1.5 sacks this season after totaling 12.5 over his first two campaigns with Tennessee.

Interim head coach Mike McCoy said that receiver/special teamer Bryce Oliver (knee) and offensive lineman Blake Hance (shoulder) will also sit out against New England.

Kicker Joey Slye (right calf) will return after missing the game against the Raiders.

The game against the Patriots will be McCoy’s first as interim coach. Tennessee fired Brian Callahan after the loss to Las Vegas dropped the team to 1-5.

Cam Ward panders to Titans’ fanbase while playing Fortnite

Former Miami quarterback Cam Ward is the presumptive top overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft next week.

Now, the Tennessee Titans hold that pick, and Ward appeared to be pandering to the team’s fanbase with several tongue-in-cheek responses while participating in a Fortnite session Tuesday night.

On one clip from the YouTube livestream, Ward was asked for his thoughts on some of the top players in the league by position.

“My top four running backs in the league right now? I would say Tony Pollard (and Tyjae) Spears,” Ward said of the Titans running backs.

Apparently Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley, ye of 2,005 rushing yards last season, couldn’t crack Ward’s list.

Ward also offered his thoughts on the NFL’s top wide receivers. He named current Titans wideouts Calvin Ridley and Treylon Burks to go along with superstars Ja’Marr Chase (Cincinnati Bengals) and Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings).

Ward also appeared to curry favor with the fanbase by referencing current Eagles wideout A.J. Brown, who was a former Titan.

“AJ Brown’s a dawg, but he’s not Calvin Ridley,” Ward said.

Ward, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds, threw an NCAA-record 158 touchdown passes. He had a total of 18,184 yards in five seasons at three different schools. He started his career at FCS program Incarnate Word (2020-21), transferred to Washington State (2022-23), then headed to Miami (2024).

NFL reinstates Jaguars WR Calvin Ridley

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley was reinstated from a year-long suspension by the NFL on Monday.

The league said Ridley was granted full reinstatement, one year after he was suspended for admitting to placing bets on NFL games.

“Ridley, who had been suspended indefinitely since March 2022 for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, is eligible to participate in all team activities, effective immediately,” the NFL said.

The league suspended Ridley last March 7 through at least the 2022 season with the qualifier he could apply for the suspension to be lifted on Feb. 15, 2023.

Ridley admitted to placing $1,500 in wagers on NFL games in 2021. He bet on games between Nov. 23-28, 2021, when he was away from his then-team, the Atlanta Falcons, for personal reasons.

“I don’t have a gambling problem,” Ridley tweeted after the suspension was announced.

The Jaguars acquired Ridley at the trade deadline last Nov. 1, sending a 2023 fifth-round pick and a conditional 2024 fourth-rounder that could potentially become a second-round pick to the Falcons.

“This is an opportunity to add a proven playmaker to our already talented wide receiver room as we continue to build our roster for 2023 and beyond,” Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement at the time.

Ridley, 28, hasn’t played since Week 7 of the 2021 season. He finished that season with 31 catches for 281 yards and two touchdowns.

Since being selected No. 26 overall by the Falcons in the 2018 draft, Ridley has 248 catches for 3,342 yards and 28 TDs in 49 games (35 starts).

Ridley tore the ACL and MCL in his knee in mid-October and missed the Super Bowl.

Ridley’s best season was 2012, when he rushed for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns in his second campaign with New England. He rushed for 2,817 yards and 22 touchdowns in 52 career games (25 starts) with the Patriots.

Falcons’ Calvin Ridley (personal matter) not making trip to London

Atlanta Falcons standout receiver Calvin Ridley is not traveling to the club’s Sunday game in London against the New York Jets due to a personal matter, the team announced Thursday.

The Falcons also said that receiver Russell Gage and defensive tackle Marlon Davidson won’t make the trip due to their respective ankle injuries.

Ridley, 26, is off to a strong start and has 27 catches for 255 yards and one touchdown for Atlanta (1-3).

“Due to a personal matter, Calvin Ridley will not travel to the Falcons game in London this weekend,” the team said in a statement. “We are in support of Calvin during this time and will respect his privacy on the matter.”

The loss of Ridley is a big blow for the Falcons. He had career bests of 90 catches and 1,374 yards last season when he supplanted the since-departed Julio Jones as the team’s top wideout.

Overall, Ridley has 244 receptions for 3,316 yards and 27 touchdowns in 48 NFL games (34 starts).

Gage will be missing his third consecutive game. He has five receptions for 28 yards.

Davidson will be sitting out his second straight game. He has eight tackles and one sack this season.
