Top 10 Player Props For NFL Week 17

With NFL games on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday this week, Week 17’s Sunday slate only features nine games. With several games like Raiders vs. Saints where both teams are bad, putting money on the traditional betting line is challenging. But it is a great week for NFL player props.

The following are our top 10 player prop picks for Sunday’s NFL games. (Odds are from FanDuel unless otherwise indicated.)

Jets vs. Bills

–Breece Hall, O/U 49.5 Rushing Yards at -113/-113

Hall has gone over this number in six of his last seven games. With rain in the forecast for Buffalo on Sunday, there is a good chance the Jets will focus more on the run. Plus, the more they run, the longer they can keep Josh Allen on the sideline.

Hall ran for a season-high 113 yards on the Bills earlier this year. The Bills have been an average run defense this season, which makes me think Hall will easily surpass 49.5 yards.

Take the OVER.

–James Cook, O/U 77.5 Rushing + Receiving Yards at -114/-114

The Bills have leaned into the run the last couple of weeks, with Cook going for 100-plus in two straight games and three of four. With inclement conditions expected, it would be surprising if they didn’t hand off to Cook early and often this week as well.

He could go over the total just running the ball. But in case he doesn’t break off a long run like he did the last two weeks, he’ll make up the difference with a couple of screen passes.

Take the OVER.

Falcons vs. Commanders

–Bijan Robinson, O/U 83.5 Rushing Yards at -113/-113
–Robinson, O/U 18.5 Rushing Attempts at -132/+102

The best thing Atlanta can do to help Michael Penix Jr. is establish the run, which the Falcons should do anyway with a running back like Robinson. He’s gone for 86 or more yards in six of his last seven games (four in a row). He carried the ball 19-plus times in each of them; in the outlier, he only had 12 carries.

Atlanta will make sure Robinson eats against Washington’s lackluster run defense (29th in the NFL).

Take the OVER on both.

–Michael Penix Jr., O/U 207.5 Passing Yards at -114/-114
–Penix, O/U 29.5 Pass Attempts

The Falcons will try to protect their rookie this week, much like they did last week vs. the Giants. Establishing the run will be the focus of the offense, with enough passing to keep the Commanders’ defense (which happens to be one of the best pass defenses in the league) honest.

Penix had 27 pass attempts last week. Teams have been attempting 28.5 per game on the Commanders this season and 32.3 in the last three. If Cousins was still at QB, I’d expect Atlanta to be closer to 32 attempts than 28 — but not Penix.

They’ll play it safe with Penix again. Take the UNDER for both.

Dolphins vs. Browns

–Tyreek Hill, O/U 49.5 Receiving Yards at -114/-114

It hasn’t been the kind of year we’ve come to expect from Hill, but with all the injury issues Miami has dealt with, it’s not surprising. He’s averaging 55.6 yards per game this season and has exceeded 49.5 yards in three of his last six games.

But the Dolphins are still alive for the playoffs and are facing a Browns defense giving up 157.7 yards per game to wide receivers this season. Other pass-happy teams like the Broncos (Week 13) and Bengals (Week 16) saw their wide receivers combine for 200-plus.

Take the OVER.

Giants vs. Colts

–Jonathan Taylor, O/U 102.5 Rushing Yards at -115/-115 (via DraftKings)
–Taylor O/U 22.5 Rushing Attempts at -110/-110 (via DraftKings)

Taylor carried the ball 29 times for 218 yards last week vs. Tennessee, but 135 yards came on two carries. Expecting similar numbers would be unrealistic.

But as long as the Colts decide to abuse the Giants’ 31st-ranked run defense rather than (try to) establish the pass, good things will happen.

Taylor has had at least 21 attempts each time the Colts have won while he was healthy this season. As bad as the Giants’ run defense is, it makes sense to feed Taylor the ball 25 times.

Take the OVER for both.

Cowboys vs. Eagles

–Saquon Barkley, O/U 111.5 Rushing Yards at -113/-113

With Jalen Hurts out this week, the Eagles will likely focus on establishing the run with Barkley to take pressure off Kenny Pickett. It didn’t result in a win last week against the Commanders, but Washington is a better team than the Cowboys this year.

Dallas has held teams to an average of 89.3 yards over their last three games. But the Eagles are playing at home and have a chance to lock up the division with a win. With Barkley and the defense leading the way, they’ll get the job done.

Take the OVER.

Trevor Etienne among 3 Georgia RBs listed as questionable

Georgia’s ground game remains a question mark heading into the Southeastern Conference championship game against Texas in Atlanta on Saturday, as three Bulldogs running backs are listed as questionable.

The availability of Trevor Etienne, Branson Robinson and Chauncey Bowens is uncertain per the SEC’s Friday night injury report.

Etienne sat out the past three games for the fifth-ranked Bulldogs (10-2) due to a rib injury.

Etienne is Georgia’s second-leading rusher with 477 yards and seven touchdowns on 95 carries in eight games this season. He also has 23 catches for 140 yards.

When Georgia won at then-No. 1 Texas on Oct. 19, Etienne ran 19 times for 87 yards and three TDs, while adding three receptions for 23 yards.

Robinson (25 carries, 73 yards, three touchdowns) and Bowens (16 carries, 58 yards) are the team’s fifth- and sixth-leading rushers, respectively.

Georgia defensive tackle Christen Miller, who sat out the eight-overtime victory over Georgia Tech last week because of a shoulder injury, also is listed as questionable to face the second-ranked Longhorns (11-1).

Commanders rule out DE Dorance Armstrong (rib) vs. Panthers

Washington Commanders defensive end Dorance Armstrong won’t play Sunday against the visiting Carolina Panthers because of a rib injury, coach Dan Quinn said Friday.

Quinn also ruled out rookie safety Tyler Owens (shin) and said starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. (knee) is “trending in the right direction” and a decision will be made this weekend. Robinson did not practice last week and has been limited this week.

Armstrong, 27, was injured in last Sunday’s 30-23 loss to the host Baltimore Ravens. He did not practice Wednesday and Thursday.

“He had a good week but he’s not there yet,” Quinn said.

Armstrong has started all six games for Washington (4-2) and has 12 tackles, three sacks, nine quarterback hits and one forced fumble.

He signed as a free agent with Washington in March after six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, who had selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Kansas.

Armstrong has 181 career tackles, 26.5 sacks, 25 tackles for loss, 57 QB hits, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 99 games (20 starts).

Owens, 23, was an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech who has played in four games on special teams and has two tackles. He did not practice on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday.

Robinson, 25, leads the Commanders in rushing with team highs of 325 yards, 73 carries and five touchdowns in five games. He missed the game against the Ravens last Sunday, when Washington was limited to 52 rushing yards on 18 attempts.

He has 1,855 career rushing yards with 12 TDs and 496 receiving yards with five TDs in 32 games (29 starts) since Washington picked him in the third round of the 2022 draft out of Alabama.

Raheem Morris praises Tyler Allgeier after Falcons’ third straight win

Six games into the Raheem Morris era in Atlanta, the Falcons’ high-powered offense has helped put them in the driver’s seat of the NFC South.

The team’s 4-2 start is the best for the franchise since 2016, the year Atlanta reached Super Bowl LI. The Falcons are fresh off three straight wins over divisional foes following Sunday’s 38-20 road victory against the Carolina Panthers. Atlanta’s 38 points were its most since Nov. 29, 2020 in a 43-6 home win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Much of the reason for the offensive explosion on Sunday was the Falcons’ running game. Tyler Allgeier, who has performed well in the backup role this season, rushed for 105 yards and a score, while starter Bijan Robinson ran for 95 yards and a pair of scores on the ground.

Morris, the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive coordinator the last three seasons, was well aware of Allgeier’s physical style of running before landing the head job in Atlanta.

“Tyler was a pain in my neck his rookie season,” Morris said of matching up against Allgeier in Los Angeles in 2022. “Being a defensive coordinator against him and trying to figure out who he was. I remember telling our guys in the meeting, ‘This guy runs hard.’ … This guy is certainly a heavy back and runs with great intent. He has great vision. I love the combination of him (and Bijan) and how they work together and how they cheer for each other. It’s the definition of great teammates, those two guys.”

Atlanta swept the critical three-game stretch of NFC South opponents, topping New Orleans and Tampa Bay before Sunday’s victory over the Panthers. The Falcons hold the first-place tiebreaker over the Buccaneers for now, but they’ll meet again in Week 8 in Tampa.

Before that, the Falcons will host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, a team reeling from a three-game losing streak.

Morris — who’s coaching his 66th game as an NFL head coach this Sunday (25-40 overall with Tampa Bay in 2009-11 and Atlanta in 2020, 2024) — knows not to overlook Seattle, regardless of its recent woes.

“Geno (Smith) has been playing great these past couple of years in kind of his bounce-back for his whole career,” Morris said of the Seahawks’ quarterback. “Obviously D.K. Metcalf has been a physical force in the league for a while, and Tyler Lockett has been a pain in my neck forever. … We’ve got our hands full.”

On the injury docket for Atlanta, special teamer Micah Abernathy went down with a knee injury Sunday, and will likely miss “a significant amount of time,” Morris said.

Linebacker Troy Andersen missed Sunday’s game with a knee injury, but Morris told reporters that Atlanta will continue to evaluate the injury as the week progresses.

Commanders RB Brian Robinson Jr. (knee) out vs. Ravens

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens due to his right knee injury.

Robinson missed practice all week and was listed as questionable on Friday before the team announced Saturday that he would be held out of the contest.

Robinson leads Washington with 325 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. He also has eight receptions for 68 yards.

The Commanders elevated running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. off the practice squad. Austin Ekeler (150 yards, 7.9 average) and Jeremy McNichols (113, 7.1) have both been productive in spot play.

Washington also activated defensive end Efe Obada (leg) from the physically unable to perform list and elevated cornerback Kevon Seymour from the practice squad. Obada broke the fibula and tibia in his right leg against the New York Giants in Week 11 of last season.

Linebacker Jordan Magee (knee) also was downgraded to out despite being a full practice participant all week.

Cards rule out DL Darius Robinson, WR Zay Jones vs. Packers

Arizona Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon said Friday that defensive lineman Darius Robinson and wide receiver Zay Jones will not play in Sunday’s game against the host Green Bay Packers.

Robinson, the Cardinals’ second selection in the first round (27th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Missouri, has yet to play this season due to a calf injury in training camp. Gannon said Robinson, 23, had discomfort Thursday.

Arizona opened the 21-day practice window on Wednesday to activate Robinson to the 53-man roster. Robinson, who went on injured reserve on Aug. 27, was limited on Wednesday and did not practice on Thursday.

Jones, 29, is dealing with a hamstring issue which limited him at practice on Thursday. He was a full participant on Wednesday when he returned from the NFL’s five-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Jones was arrested last November and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery causing bodily harm following an alleged altercation with the mother of his child. Florida prosecutors dropped the case in March.

“My focus has been trying to move forward. It’s been hard,” Jones said Thursday, speaking for the first time since his suspension. “It’s been difficult not only on myself, people around me. … To have that behind me now and to look forward to the positive things that are coming — not only for myself, but for this football team — is what I look forward to.”

He caught 34 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns in nine games (seven starts) with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

After being released by the Jaguars in April, Jones signed a one-year contract in May with the Cardinals worth up to $2.25 million.

Jones has 287 catches for 3,028 yards and 18 touchdowns in 104 games (67 starts) with the Buffalo Bills (2017-19), Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (2019-21) and Jaguars. His best season was in 2022, when he had career highs with 82 receptions and 823 yards. Buffalo drafted him in the second round in 2017.

Combine Notebook: Penn State’s Chop Robinson ready to flex

INDIANAPOLIS — Circle DL 45 in your program before the start of defensive line workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday morning if you want to be ahead of the “riser” talk around Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson.

Robinson’s blue-chip trait happens to be a lightning-fast first step, the golden gift for pass rushers, and he is widely projected to be selected in the top 20 of the 2024 NFL Draft in April.

Robinson had only four sacks as a junior in 2023 and played 10 games. He’s undeniably raw but began working on consistency with his hand usage when the season ended and he declared for the draft.

“At my best, my bend, hands and ability to dip around the corner to the quarterback,” Robinson said of his best traits. “I’m trying to jump 11 feet in the broad (jump).”

Brace for buzz around Robinson to be amplified by Thursday night if he delivers on what he said Wednesday were his best workout numbers in preparation for the event. He said he’s targeting a 4.4-second 40 and a vertical of 38 to 40 inches based on benchmarks he already has hit.

Mind you, Demeioun Robinson — nicknamed Porkchop as a 14-pound baby, shortened to Chop when he slimmed down — is 6-foot-3, 254 pounds.

Media mentioned former Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, a two-time All-Pro with the Dallas Cowboys and the 12th overall pick in 2021, as a comparison to Robinson on Wednesday. For reference, Parsons measured 6-3, 245 before the 2021 draft but has no official combine workout numbers because the event was canceled in 2021 due to COVID-19.

–Bears head coach Matt Eberflus begins every formal meeting with draft prospects at the combine the same way: offering them the choice of playing putt-putt or darts in the team’s hotel suite before the interview questions begin.

“I like putting. I’m pretty good at both,” Eberflus said. “Then we’ll just teach them something about the offense, an offensive play, and then we’ll show their tape and have them talk about their tape. Kind of checking their FBI (football intelligence) out there and then recall at the end to give us back what they learned in the beginning. And it’s the same process for all the players.”

LSU defensive tackle Maason Smith met with Chicago on Tuesday night and said he grabbed the putter.

“I like golf more than darts,” Smith said.

–Three prospects continuing their meteoric rise this week are Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Missouri defensive lineman Darius Robinson and Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.

Expect to hear much more about McCarthy, who has three total losses between two high schools and three seasons at Michigan, acing interviews with NFL teams.

Robinson changed positions in his fifth season at Missouri last season and is being praised for that versatility in the trenches. He can line up at any spot on the defensive line.

Mitchell had 46 combined passes defensed the past two seasons and has all the skills to be the first defensive back drafted. If he runs the 40 time he expects — 4.3 seconds — at 200 pounds, that could be a reality.

–Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. huddled with his dad’s former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, and had a session with Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Trotter Jr. said his dad prepped him with practice interview questions and has been an integral part of his preparation for two decades.

“Being in the league growing up, being around the game basically my whole life, he’s taught me a lot about playing the linebacker position,” Trotter Jr. said. “He’s definitely helped me get to this position here and I give a lot of credit to him.”

–As the Tennessee Titans dig into draft prospect evaluations of offensive linemen, new head coach Brian Callahan is getting additional face time with his dad. That would be offensive line coach Bill Callahan.

“There’s not many people that are going to tell him how to do his job,” Brian Callahan said. “He’s about as good at it as anybody. It’s been really fun for me. It’s been a dream come true to be able to sit and to have a cup of coffee with my dad in the morning and talk about what we got coming up that day and talk about pass protection and technique and watch him do his job, too. It’s been awesome.”

Report: Jaguars LT Cam Robinson (knee) out 3-6 weeks

Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson will miss 3-6 weeks with a knee injury suffered early in Sunday’s win in Houston, NFL Network reported Monday.

The timeline makes Robinson a candidate for injured reserve, but he is expected to be ready for the playoffs barring any setbacks.

Robinson left the 24-21 victory against the Texans after playing only 12 offensive snaps. He was visibly upset while sitting on the bench.

Robinson, 28, missed the first four games this season for the Jaguars (8-3) while serving an NFL suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

The 2017 second-round pick has started all 82 games he has been on the field for the Jaguars.

Falcons not giving ‘1 second of thought’ to NFL’s Robinson inquiry

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith invited the NFL to waste its time looking into the injury stats and usage of running back Bijan Robinson last week while Atlanta focuses on keeping control of the NFC South lead.

“Everything is transparent,” Smith said Wednesday.

Smith was responding to questions about reports the NFL would look into the sequence of events that led to Robinson being active but only playing a bit part while sick. He was not listed on injury reports prior to the 16-13 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Smith said Atlanta (4-3) is tuned tightly into planning for the Tennessee Titans this week, not the timing around the team reporting Robinson’s illness a week ago.

“You’re talking about sensationalized things,” Smith said Wednesday. “I understand outrage and drama sells. Guys, like, if you really understand how things really operate that there’s nothing, there’s nothing there. So I don’t know what, I haven’t given one second of thought about it.”

Robinson, the Falcons’ first-round pick, played 11 snaps and had one carry for three yards in Week 7 against the Bucs. He was not targeted in the passing game.

Atlanta’s win gave the Falcons sole possession of first place in the NFC South entering Week 8 for the first time since the team’s most recent Super Bowl season.

Robinson has 404 rushing yards and 189 receiving yards on the season.

Robinson said he was “feeling weird” Saturday night and woke up ill and experiencing headaches. But he was not put through concussion baseline testing or given a COVID-19 test by the Falcons.

ESPN first reported the NFL would investigate the timing of Robinson’s symptoms and whether he should have been tested or further evaluated.

Smith shut down further questions about Robinson’s status and said he was ready for Wednesday’s practice.

“We’ll talk about the Tennessee Titans, and the big game we’ve got going on,” Smith said.

Giants RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) ruled out vs. 49ers

New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley has been ruled out of Thursday’s road game against the San Francisco 49ers due to a sprained ankle.

Giants coach Brian Daboll initially told reporters on Tuesday that Barkley would be a game-time decision against the 49ers (2-0). On Wednesday, the team’s injury report listed Barkley as out, along with offensive linemen Andrew Thomas (hamstring) and Ben Bredeson (concussion) as well as linebacker Azeez Ojulari (hamstring).

Barkley and Bredeson did not practice on Wednesday, while Thomas, Ojulari joined wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) and linebacker Micah McFadden (neck) in being limited. Robinson and McFadden are listed as questionable to face San Francisco.

Barkley, 26, hurt his right ankle during the Giants’ game-winning drive in a 31-28 road win over the Arizona Cardinals. He took a 2-yard carry up the middle and appeared to get his ankle caught under Arizona linebacker Krys Barnes with 1:08 left in the game.

Through two games, Barkley has rushed for 114 yards and one touchdown on 29 carries and caught nine passes for 41 yards and another score for the Giants (1-1).

Barkley missed time with ankle injuries in 2019 and 2021. His 2020 season was also cut short due to a torn ACL in Week 2.

Running back Matt Breida will receive increased playing time in the absence of Barkley. Breida, 28, carried the ball 54 times for 220 yards (4.1 yards per carry) in 17 games with the Giants last season.
