Cardinals WR Rondale Moore (hamstring) returns to practice

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Rondale Moore participated in practice on Wednesday for the first time since sustaining a hamstring injury prior to the team’s season opener.

Moore was spotted running and participating in drills for the Cardinals (1-2), who could use a boost in their passing game on Sunday when they visit the Carolina Panthers (1-2).

Arizona will provide an update on Moore’s participation level later on Wednesday.

Moore, 22, had 54 catches for 435 yards and one touchdown in 14 games during his rookie season in 2021. He was selected by the Cardinals in the second round of that draft.

Cards RB James Conner a game-time decision vs. Colts

The availability of Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner and rookie receiver Rondale Moore will be decided just before kickoff against the visiting Indianapolis Colts on Saturday.

Conner has yet to practice this week as he deals with a heel injury, while Moore has been sidelined by an ankle injury.

Running backs Chase Edmonds and Eno Benjamin likely would be in for an uptick in snaps should Conner be unable to face the Colts (8-6) on Christmas night in Glendale, Ariz.

Conner’s 14 rushing touchdowns rank only behind Colts star Jonathan Taylor (17) for tops in the NFL. The 26-year-old Conner has a team-leading 700 yards rushing to go along with 31 receptions for 334 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals (10-4).

Moore, 21, has 54 catches for 435 yards and one touchdown in 14 games this season. He was selected by Arizona in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Purdue’s Brohm says he’s ready to return, mum on WR Moore

Purdue coach Jeff Brohm said he expects to return to the team this week following his COVID-19 positive test and required isolation.

“Wednesday will be my first day back, and seems like it’s been a couple months,” he told reporters Monday. “So to get back, it’s about time, so I’m looking forward to that.”

In his absence, the Boilermakers defeated Iowa 24-20 in their season opener. They play at Illinois (0-1) on Saturday.

While Brohm was forthcoming about his own availability, he didn’t share whether star wide receiver Rondale Moore will play against the Illini on Saturday. The school announced last weekend that Moore wouldn’t play against Iowa but did not disclose a reason.

”We’re always hopeful and we’ll see what happens during the week,” Brohm said.

He skirted the question about why Moore didn’t play and declined to say whether he sat because of an injury or for another reason.

“He was just out, and we’ll — whenever he’s ready to play, he will play,” Brohm said. “That’s all I can tell you. I apologize.”

The 5-foot-9 Moore had an electric freshman season in 2018, becoming the first true freshman consensus All-American in Big Ten history. In 13 games, he caught 114 passes for 1,258 yards, rushed 21 times for 213 yards, and also returned 33 kickoffs for 662 yards and 12 punts for 82 yards. He scored 14 touchdowns.

His 2,215 all-purpose yards set a school record for most in a season.

Last season, he was limited to four games after suffering a season-ending knee injury. He caught 29 passes for 387 yards and two scores, adding 151 yards on nine kickoff returns.

Purdue star WR Moore out for opener

Standout wide receiver Rondale Moore will miss Saturday’s season opener for Purdue.

The school gave no reason for Moore’s absence in its Friday announcement.

The Boilermakers host Iowa on Saturday afternoon and also will be without head coach Jeff Brohm, who tested positive for COVID-19.

Moore, in his third season, initially chose to opt out amid the coronavirus pandemic but decided to return when the Big Ten reversed course and elected to play a fall football season.

Purdue WR Moore will play in 2020 after all

Given more time to think about it, Purdue junior wide receiver Rondale Moore decided that he will play in 2020 after all following a previous decision to opt out the upcoming season because of COVID-19 concerns.

His original opt out in August was a blow to the Purdue program, with the reversal of his decision announced Thursday on ESPN’s “College Football Live.”

“I think it’s important for me to come back and compete and just show what a competitor I am,” Moore said. “I think it’s important for me just to go out there with my teammates and fulfill the promise I made to them when I came here as a freshman, and to my coaches as well.”

The Big Ten is planning to return to play on Oct. 24 with Purdue slated to host Iowa on that date.

All teams will play eight conference games leading to a conference championship game. Teams that do not advance to the championship game will have a ninth game added on the same weekend.

Moore had a standout freshman season in 2018, catching 114 passes for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdowns. Getting as much out of his speed as they could, the Boilermakers also handed off the ball to him 21 times for 213 yards and two more TDs.

His 2019 season was cut short after four games because of a hamstring issue. He caught 29 passes for 387 yards and two scores.

Purdue was just 4-8 overall last season and 3-6 in conference play, finishing tied for fifth in the seven-team West Division.
