Bengals RB Samaje Perine activated off COVID list

The Cincinnati Bengals activated backup running back Samaje Perine off the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.

Perine, 26, was put on the list Oct. 11 and missed last week’s contest against the Detroit Lions.

Perine played 61 percent of Cincinnati’s offensive snaps in its Week 5 loss to Green Bay while starter Joe Mixon battled an ankle injury. Perine rushed for 59 yards in that contest and caught a touchdown pass out of the backfield. He has 87 rushing yards on the season to go with 54 yards receiving on seven catches.

Perine and offensive lineman Jackson Carman were put on the COVID list on the same day, but the latter returned to play against the Lions. However, Carman left the game in the third quarter from an apparent bout of food poisoning and did not return.

The Bengals (4-2) visit the Baltimore Ravens (5-1) on Sunday.

Bengals RB Joe Mixon’s availability hinges on Saturday workout

Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor said he will take an extra day to determine the availability of running back Joe Mixon for Sunday’s game against the visiting Green Bay Packers.

Taylor told reporters Friday that Mixon will work out for the team on Saturday. Mixon has yet to practice this week after sustaining a low-grade ankle sprain in the Bengals’ 24-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 30.

Samaje Perine would be in line for a larger workload for the Bengals (3-1) should Mixon be unable to play against the Packers (3-1).

Mixon, 25, leads the team in carries (83), rushing yards (353) and rushing touchdowns (two).

Perine, 26, has nine carries for 28 yards.

Taylor also said wide receiver Tee Higgins is on track to play Sunday after missing two games with a shoulder injury.

Higgins, 22, totaled 10 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games of the season.
