Patriots release LB Sione Takitaki

The New England Patriots released six-year veteran linebacker Sione Takitaki on Wednesday after his lone season with the team.

Takitaki, 29, played in 11 games (four starts) and totaled 21 tackles. He has 289 career tackles with four sacks, 14 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 83 regular-season games (40 starts) for the Cleveland Browns (2019-23) and Patriots.

He also has 11 tackles and one interception in three playoff games (all starts) for Cleveland.

The Browns selected Takitaki in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of BYU.

Browns LB Sione Takitaki (ACL) done for season

Cleveland Browns starting linebacker Sione Takitaki will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the news Monday after Takitaki left Sunday’s win against the Houston Texans.

Takitaki, 27, had nine tackles against the Texans before the injury. He has 71 tackles in 12 games (eight starts) to go with a forced fumble and a sack this season.

Takitaki has played in 57 games (29 starts) since the Browns selected him in the third round of the 2019 draft.

Browns activate LB Takitaki, DE Jackson from COVID-19 list

The Cleveland Browns activated linebacker Sione Takitaki and defensive end Joe Jackson from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday.

Takitaki, 25, was placed on the list on Nov. 25. He has played in 10 games (eight starts) and has 45 tackles and an interception, which he returned to a 50-yard touchdown in a Week 11 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A third-round selection in 2019, Takitaki played in 15 games (one start) as a rookie and contributed 21 tackles.

Jackson, 23, landed on the list on Nov. 24. He has five tackles and a fumble recovery in three games this season.

A fifth-round pick by Dallas in 2019, he posted four tackles in five games with the Cowboys last season.

The Browns (8-3) face the Tennessee Titans (8-3) in Nashville on Sunday afternoon.
