Reports: Titans acquire CB L’Jarius Sneed from Chiefs

Cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, a starter on the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning teams each of the past two seasons, is headed to the Tennessee Titans, ESPN and NFL.com reported Friday night.

The Titans reportedly are sending the Chiefs a 2025 third-round pick, and the clubs will swap seventh-round selections in 2024.

The deal came together after Kansas City placed the nonexclusive franchise tag on Sneed this month, days after granting him permission to find another team willing to trade for his services.

Sneed will receive a new contract from Tennessee, per the two reports. According to ESPN, he will wind up with one of the richest contracts for a cornerback.

Sneed, 27, is set to become the second cornerback to join the Titans in the offseason, following former Cincinnati Bengal Chidobe Awuzie, who landed a three-year deal earlier this month.

The Chiefs drafted Sneed in the fourth round of the 2020 draft out of Louisiana Tech, and he wound up playing 57 regular-season games, including 54 starts, for Kansas City.

He also started all 13 of the team’s postseason games during his tenure, including three Super Bowls.

In 2023, Sneed had 78 tackles, two interceptions, 14 passes defensed and one fumble recovery in 16 games, all starts. He added 17 tackles and three passes defensed in the playoffs, including three tackles and one pass defensed in Kansas City’s 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl last month.

For his career, he has 303 tackles, 10 interceptions, 6.5 sacks, 40 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Chiefs CB L’Jarius Sneed expected to join team in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is expected to join teammates Tuesday after missing Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night media responsibilities for what head coach Andy Reid labeled “personal reasons.”

Teammate Trent McDuffie smiled and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo added unofficial confirmation that Sneed would be back with the team when asked about his status Monday night.

In photos posted on Instagram by Bella Wu, Sneed’s girlfriend, the couple appeared to be at a Kansas City hospital for the delivery of Sneed’s second child. Sneed is the father of a 6-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Reid said during the playoffs, pointing particularly to Sneed’s shutdown showing against Dolphins All-Pro Tyreek Hill, that there wasn’t an NFL cornerback playing at his level in 2023.

“You saw, one catch (Hill) had,” Reid said. “You don’t see Tyreek get knocked down very often, but Sneed did that. I have a hard time believing there’s another corner as good as him in this league.”

Sneed, 27, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in March and is considered a strong candidate for the franchise tag.

Eagles returner Britain Covey only name on final SBLVII injury report

The Kansas City Chiefs have a clean bill of health, while the Philadelphia Eagles listed only one player, wide receiver and return specialist Britain Covey, on the final injury report ahead of Super Bowl LVII this Sunday in Glendale, Ariz.

Covey (hamstring) popped up for the first time Thursday, was limited for two straight days and was listed Friday as questionable for the game.

An undrafted rookie, Covey has rarely seen snaps on offense but serves as Philadelphia’s punt returner. He also returned kicks in Weeks 4, 8, 9 and 10. Covey fielded 33 punts in the regular season for 308 yards with a long of 27. He averaged 9.3 yards.

If Covey can’t play, the Eagles may need to turn to the likes of speedy former Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith as a replacement punt returner.

Friday’s news was good for Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, who appeared on Thursday’s injury report as a limited participant with a knee issue. The Chiefs said Sneed practiced in full on Friday and gave him no game status designation.

That’s not to say Kansas City is at perfect attendance. Earlier in the week, it placed wide receiver Mecole Hardman on injured reserve with a pelvic injury, taking him out of the equation for the Super Bowl.
But that allowed the Chiefs to activate running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) from IR in a corresponding move, and two other wide receivers with previous injury concerns — JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle, hamstring) — are cleared to play Sunday.

Chiefs add CB L’Jarius Sneed (knee) to injury report

The Kansas City Chiefs had good news and bad news Thursday on the injury front ahead of the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who was a limited practice participant on Wednesday due to ankle and hamstring ailment, returned to full activity on Thursday.

“He was spirited (Wednesday) and running around like crazy,” Kansas City coach Andy Reid said Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs added cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the injury report, noting that he was limited in practice because of a knee issue.

Sneed is still enjoying Super Bowl week, though. The third-year player was part of the Chiefs team that lost the Super Bowl to end the 2021 season.

“My first one was COVID year, so I didn’t get to experience what I’m experiencing now,” Sneed said, according to Fox4KC.com. “And I think it’s very wonderful and motivating for me.”

Six other Kansas City players were listed on the injury report with minor ailments, but all of them were full participants in practice on both Wednesday and Thursday. That list includes Patrick Mahomes, who has been hobbled by a right ankle injury.

The Eagles listed 13 players as limited practice participants on Thursday after all but three worked out fully on Wednesday.

The Chiefs players are eager for Sunday to arrive.

Kansas City All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones said, according to Fox4KC.com, “If it was up to me, we would have (already) played the game.”

Rookie safety Bryan Cook added, according to Fox4KC.com, “If I ain’t ready now, when will I ever be? I’m here for a reason, God put me here for a reason, and it’s all in God’s hands.”
