Report: Steelers G James Daniels (Achilles) out for season

Pittsburgh Steelers starting right guard James Daniels has sustained a torn Achilles and will be out for the remainder of the season, ESPN reported on Monday.

Daniels suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Steelers’ 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He was seen in a walking boot and using crutches after the game.

Daniels, 27, has started all four games this season and 36 during parts of three seasons with Pittsburgh.

He has started 84 of the 90 games in which he has played with the Chicago Bears (2018-21) and Steelers.

Fourth-round draft pick Mason McCormick or second-year Spencer Anderson are contenders to start in place of Daniels for Pittsburgh (3-1) in Sunday night’s game against the visiting Dallas Cowboys (2-2).

Steelers LG Isaac Seumalo out vs. Falcons, deemed week-to-week

Pittsburgh Steelers left guard Isaac Seumalo could return to the field as early as the Week 2 game at Denver, coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday.

Seumalo has been ruled out of Sunday’s season opener at Atlanta due to a pectoral injury he sustained in practice last Wednesday.

“Isaac can be described as out this week, but we did get good news regarding his pec injury. We’ll characterize it as week-to-week and we’ll see where next week leads us, but really optimistic about his return sooner rather than later,” Tomlin said.

Second-year player Spencer Anderson will start in place of Seumalo.

Seumalo, 30, started all 17 games during his first season with the Steelers in 2023.

A Super Bowl champion with Philadelphia, Seumalo has started 77 of the 98 games in which he has played with the Eagles (2016-22) and Steelers.

Report: Steelers G Isaac Seumalo injured in practice

Pittsburgh Steelers starting guard Isaac Seumalo sustained an apparent pectoral injury during practice, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

Per the report, Seumalo is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury.

The news comes on the same day that coach Mike Tomlin announced veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will start for the Steelers when they open the season Sept. 8 on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.

Wilson, who led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl title a decade ago, had been locked in a battle with fourth-year quarterback Justin Fields.

Seumalo, 30, started all 17 games during his first season with the Steelers in 2023.

A Super Bowl champion with Philadelphia, Seumalo has started 77 of the 98 games in which he has played with the Eagles (2016-22) and Steelers.

Should Seumalo be sidelined, Pittsburgh can turn to second-year player Spencer Anderson or fourth-round pick Mason McCormick at the guard position.
