Reports: Lions to sign former Broncos WR Tim Patrick

Veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick will sign with the Detroit Lions after he did not make the Denver Broncos’ initial 53-man roster Tuesday, DenverSports.com and ESPN reported.

Patrick is expected to join the Lions’ practice squad and work his way onto their active roster, according to ESPN.

Patrick, 30, was a former starter for Denver but has not played since 2021 after suffering multiple injuries. He tore his ACL during a training camp practice in 2022 and then tore an Achilles in July 2023.

In 55 games (37 starts) for the Broncos from 2018-21, Patrick hauled in 143 catches for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Lions were searching for receiver depth behind starters Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. They cut veteran Donovan Peoples-Jones as they brought their roster down to 53 players.

Report: Broncos bring back WR Tim Patrick on adjusted contract

Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick will be back in Denver next season after reportedly agreeing to an adjusted one-year deal on Friday, Colorado TV station 9News reported.

Patrick was owed a base salary of $9.5 million for the 2024 season with a salary cap charge over $15 million. Because of season-ending knee and Achilles injuries, Patrick hasn’t played in a game since signing a three-year, $34 million contract that took effect in 2022.

Patrick tore his left Achilles tendon last August in practice and had surgery, landing on injured reserve. He missed all of the 2022 season with a torn right anterior cruciate ligament.

Patrick caught 53 passes for 734 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games in 2021.

An undrafted free agent who struggled to catch on with a team, the Broncos added him to the practice squad in 2018 after he spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens.

Patrick amassed 143 receptions for 2,009 yards and 12 TDs in four seasons (2018-21) on the Broncos’ roster.

Reports: Broncos LB Jonas Griffith injures ACL

Denver Broncos linebacker Jonas Griffith sustained an ACL injury during a practice session this week, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

Griffith, 26, totaled 46 tackles and an interception in nine games (eight starts) last season before sitting out with a foot injury. He has 92 tackles and one interception in 22 career games (12 starts) with the Broncos.

The news comes three days after Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick tore his left Achilles tendon in practice and will require surgery. Patrick, who was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, missed all of the 2022 season with a torn right anterior cruciate ligament.

Broncos sign CB Fabian Moreau, WR Tim Patrick to IR

Veteran cornerback Fabian Moreau signed with the Denver Broncos, filling the roster spot vacated Wednesday when wide receiver Tim Patrick was placed on injured reserve.

Moreau, 29, is entering his seventh season since being chosen by Washington in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

In 90 games (45 starts) with Washington (2017-20), Atlanta (2021) and the New York Giants (2022), he has 240 tackles, six interceptions, 35 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Patrick tore his left Achilles tendon in practice on Monday and will require surgery. He missed all of the 2022 season with a torn right anterior cruciate ligament.

Patrick, 29, caught 53 passes for 734 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games in 2021. In four NFL seasons, all with the Broncos, Patrick has amassed 143 receptions for 2,009 yards and 12 TDs.

Broncos’ Sean Payton confirms WR Tim Patrick’s torn Achilles

Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton confirmed Tuesday that wide receiver Tim Patrick has a torn Achilles tendon and will require surgery.

After missing the entire 2022 season due to a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, Patrick experienced another stroke of bad luck on Monday, when he tore his left Achilles in practice.

“I spoke to him last night. Of course he’s disappointed,” Payton said. “My understanding is almost a year ago to the day (he sustained the season-ending knee injury). I think the hard thing — and I said this yesterday — is for a player to spend most of his offseason rehabbing, and then all of a sudden hit another roadblock.

“The good news is it’s a clean injury and there’s a better than likely 100 percent recovery. It’s pretty clean, relative to the type of surgery he’s going to have. I don’t have a date yet as to when that will take place, but that’s where we are at there.”

Patrick, 29, last played in 2021, catching 53 passes for 734 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games. In four NFL seasons, all with the Broncos, Patrick has amassed 143 receptions for 2,009 yards and 12 TDs.

Payton also said Tuesday that the team isn’t ruling out a return for wide receiver KJ Hamler, who was diagnosed with a heart condition. Denver waived Hamler with a non-football illness designation on Monday, but the 24-year-old is hoping that treatment and medication will allow him to come back this season.

“His (situation) is unique, and it’s a unique condition. We had a long visit with him,” Payton said. “With him, the good news is we feel like — I don’t want to put a prognosis or timeline on it, but approximately a month and probably another couple of weeks to get in football shape.

“We are hopeful that once the symptoms dissipate and he is cleared, then that leaves us a lot of options.”

Hamler had seven receptions for 165 yards in seven games last season. In three seasons with the Broncos, he has caught 42 passes for 620 yards and three TDs.

Broncos WR Tim Patrick (leg) carted off practice field

Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick was carted off the field Monday following a non-contact injury.

NFL Network reported the injury occurred on the second play of 7-on-7 drills at camp. Trainers looked at his lower left leg, per the report.

Patrick reportedly threw his helmet after he fell to the ground, and frustration and anger would be understandable. Last training camp, Patrick sustained a torn right ACL and missed the 2022 season.

He was listed as a projected starter on Denver’s depth chart.

Patrick, 29, was undrafted coming out of Utah in 2018 and signed with the Broncos. In 55 games (37 starts) for Denver, he has 143 catches for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns. He led Denver in TD receptions in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

He started all 16 games he played in 2021, catching 53 passes for 734 yards and five touchdowns.

Broncos players, including quarterback Russell Wilson, huddled around Patrick before he was taken to the locker room.

Patrick started all 16 games he played last season, catching 53 passes for 734 yards and five touchdowns.

In 55 games (37 starts) for the Broncos over the past four seasons, the Utah product has 143 catches for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns. He led Denver in TD receptions in each of the past two seasons.

Broncos WR Patrick gets 3-year extension

The Denver Broncos agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension with wide receiver Tim Patrick on Friday.

The extension is worth up to $34.5 million, including $18.5 million guaranteed, NFL Network and ESPN reported.

Patrick tweeted, “I love you #BroncosCountry. 3 more years!!!!”

Patrick, 27, is playing his fourth NFL campaign, all with Denver. He leads the Broncos with four touchdown receptions and is their second-leading receiver with 523 yards (on 37 catches).

The Utah product went undrafted in 2017, and he was with the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers that year without getting in a game. He caught on with the Broncos’ practice squad later that season.

Denver now features him in a receiving corps that includes leading receiver Courtland Sutton and former first-round pick Jerry Jeudy.
