Giants re-sign lone QB Tommy DeVito

The New York Giants re-signed quarterback Tommy DeVito to a contract on Saturday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team, however. He was set to be an exclusive rights free agent when the new league year begins on Wednesday.

DeVito, 26, is the lone quarterback on the Giants’ roster with Drew Lock and Tim Boyle becoming free agents.

The team reportedly was interested in trading for Matthew Stafford, however the veteran quarterback agreed to a restructured contract to return to the Los Angeles Rams. Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers reportedly is a potential candidate for the Giants, who also hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

DeVito completed 31 of 44 passes for 257 yards in three games (two starts) last season. He did not throw for a touchdown or have an interception.

The New Jersey native owns a 3-5 record since joining the team as an undrafted rookie in 2023. He has completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 1,358 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions in 12 career games (eight starts).

Giants QB Drew Lock in line to start vs. Falcons

New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock is on track to start on Sunday against rookie Michael Penix Jr. and the host Atlanta Falcons, head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday.

Lock sat out the Giants’ 35-14 loss to the visiting Baltimore Ravens last Sunday due to heel and left elbow injuries.

Tommy DeVito started against the Ravens and sustained a concussion late in the second quarter.

Tim Boyle replaced DeVito and completed 12 of 24 passes for 123 yards with one touchdown and one interception in his debut with the team. Boyle had bounced between the practice squad and active roster since New York signed him in November.

The Giants (2-12) will look to snap a nine-game losing skid on Sunday when they visit the Falcons (7-7).

New York has used four different quarterbacks this season, as longtime starter Daniel Jones was benched and later released on Nov. 22.

Lock, 28, is in his first season with the Giants and is 46-for-90 passing for 414 yards, no TDs and two interceptions in five games (two starts).

The Denver Broncos selected Lock in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played three seasons for the Broncos (2019-21) before they traded him to the Seattle Seahawks in March 2022. He has passed for 5,697 yards with a 58.8 percent completion rate, 28 TDs and 25 interceptions in 33 career games (25 starts).

Tommy DeVito in concussion protocol as Giants sort through QB options

The New York Giants’ quarterback situation remains in flux, with head coach Brian Daboll announcing Monday that Tommy DeVito is in concussion protocol and Drew Lock is still recovering from heel and left elbow injuries.

“… We’ll see where these guys are at each day, and Wednesday, hopefully, they’ll be ready to go,” Daboll said at his press conference.

DeVito started Sunday’s home game against the Baltimore Ravens and was injured late in the second quarter. He exited after completing 10 of 13 passes for 68 yards in the 35-14 loss in East Rutherford, N.J.

Tim Boyle, who had bounced between the practice squad and active roster since the New York signed him in November, replaced DeVito for the remainder of the game and finished 12 of 24 for 123 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his Giants debut.

Daboll was asked if Boyle could be the starter when the Giants (2-12) visit the Atlanta Falcons (6-7) on Sunday.

“Well, it depends on how these other guys are health-wise, too,” Daboll said. “Again, I thought (Boyle) made some nice throws. He was decisive with the football. He was ready to go. He was prepared. He’s worked extremely hard since he’s been here. He made the most of his opportunity, the chance he got to be in there.”

The Giants have used four different quarterbacks this season, as longtime starter Daniel Jones was benched and later released on Nov. 22. DeVito got a start but injured his forearm, and Lock started two games before hurting his heel against New Orleans on Dec. 8.

DeVito, 26, has played in three games this season (two starts) and is 31 of 44 for 257 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions.

He played in nine games as an undrafted rookie last season, starting six and going 3-3 with 1,101 passing yards, eight TDs and three picks.

Boyle, 30, has played parts of six seasons for six teams, including Miami earlier this season. He appeared in two games with the Dolphins and one for the Giants for a combined 27-of-50 passing for 276 yards, one TD and one pick.

He has passed for 1,210 yards and five TDs against 13 interceptions in 23 games (five starts) in 23 career games (five starts).

Giants QB Tommy DeVito (concussion) out vs. Ravens

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito suffered a concussion late in the second quarter and did not return to Sunday’s game against the visiting Baltimore Ravens in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Ravens’ defense applied consistent pressure against DeVito on the way to building a 21-7 halftime lead. Backup Tim Boyle took the field to take a knee on the final possession of the half.

DeVito remained in the game to complete a second-quarter touchdown drive after being driven to the turf on a roughing the passer penalty against Baltimore.

DeVito completed 10 of 13 passes for 68 yards. He was sacked twice, losing eight yards.

Giants QB Tommy DeVito in line to start vs. Ravens

New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is expected to start Sunday’s game against the visiting Baltimore Ravens should Drew Lock be unable to play, head coach Brian Daboll announced Wednesday.

Per Daboll, DeVito will take first-team reps in practice on Wednesday with Lock in a walking boot due to a heel injury.

DeVito injured his forearm in New York’s 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 24. Lock replaced DeVito to finish that contest and started the next two for the Giants (2-11), who have lost eight in a row heading into their game against the Ravens (8-5) in East Rutherford, N.J.

DeVito, 26, has completed 21 of 31 passes for 189 yards in parts of two games (one start) this season.

He has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 1,290 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions in 11 career games (seven starts) with the Giants.

Giants QB Drew Lock to start vs. Saints

New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock will start his second straight game Sunday against the visiting New Orleans Saints, coach Brian Daboll announced Wednesday.

Daboll also said Lock will take all of the first-team snaps in preparation for Sunday’s game in East Rutherford, N.J.

Lock, 28, completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards with an interception that was returned for a touchdown in the Giants’ 27-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day. He added a team-leading 57 yards rushing and a touchdown.

New York (2-10) has lost seven in a row heading into its game against New Orleans (4-8).

Tommy DeVito started the Giants’ 30-7 setback to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 24. He injured his forearm in that game and will be limited in practice on Wednesday, Daboll said.

Report: QB Drew Lock to start for Giants; injured DeVito stays home

Quarterback Drew Lock will take the reins on Thursday when the New York Giants visit the Dallas Cowboys for a Thanksgiving Day contest in Arlington, Texas.

ESPN reported Wednesday that DeVito, elevated to No. 1 last week after the Giants demoted — then released — starter Daniel Jones, didn’t even make the trip to Texas because of injury.

After his first start of the season, a 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, DeVito said he wasn’t feeling great after enduring four sacks. Coach Brian Daboll said earlier this week that the injury was to DeVito’s forearm.

“My whole body is kind of sore. First time playing in a while, took a couple of shots,” DeVito said Tuesday. “I’m planning to play. See how I feel (Wednesday). Hopefully I feel a little bit better after some more treatment.”

DeVito didn’t practice Wednesday for the Giants (2-9).

DeVito jumped Lock from No. 3 on the depth chart and started Sunday. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 189 yards.

Lock, who spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks, signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Giants in the offseason. The 28-year-old has appeared in three games with New York, completing 4 of 9 pass attempts for nine yards.

Lock has played in 31 career games (23 starts) with the Denver Broncos (2019-21), Seahawks (2023) and Giants. With a 9-14 record as a starter, Lock has completed 59.5 percent of his pass attempts for 5,292 yards with 28 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

Dallas is 4-7 on the season.

Giants QB Tyrod Taylor to start vs. Rams

New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be under center to start Sunday’s game against the visiting Los Angeles Rams, coach Brian Daboll announced Wednesday.

Taylor replaced undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito in the second half of New York’s 33-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

The Giants (5-10), eliminated from postseason contention, have lost two in a row heading into the game with the Rams (8-7) in East Rutherford, N.J.

DeVito completed 9 of 16 passes for 55 yards, while Taylor finished 7 of 16 for 133 yards with one touchdown and one interception against the Eagles. Taylor connected on a 69-yard touchdown pass to Darius Slayton in the fourth quarter.

“I thought Ty did some good things in the second half of Philly so he earned the right to start this game,” Daboll said. “Let’s get ready for the Rams, really have nothing else to add on it. That’s where we’re at.”

Taylor, 34, has completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 725 yards with three touchdowns and one pick in nine games (three starts) this season.

DeVito, 25, has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 1,087 yards with eight TDs and three interceptions in eight games (six starts) this season.

The Giants lost starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a torn right ACL in their Week 9 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Giants coach mum on starting quarterback vs. Rams

New York Giants coach Brian Daboll isn’t ready to name his starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the visiting Los Angeles Rams.

“We’ll talk about that here this week,” Daboll said after the Giants (5-10) dropped a 33-25 road decision to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

New York’s QB carousel took another turn after Daboll attempted to “spark the team” by benching undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito in favor of Tyrod Taylor. DeVito completed 9 of 16 passes for 55 yards, while Taylor finished 7-for-16 for 133 yards with one touchdown and one interception against the Eagles.

“It’s tough. It’s just a constant reminder that it’s a business,” DeVito said. “They’re always going to try to find someone to replace you, wherever it is. …We’re going to work, watch the film, and do all that. At the end of the day, it’s not me or Tyrod’s decision, it’s the coaches’ (decision).”

DeVito, 25, has completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 1,087 yards with eight TDs and three interceptions in eight games (six starts) this season.

Taylor, 34, has completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 725 yards with three touchdowns and one pick in nine games (three starts) this season.

Giants QB Tommy DeVito attends pizzeria event for free after squabble

Tommy DeVito’s fairy-tale NFL story added a less-flattering chapter this week when a New Jersey pizzeria canceled his appearance and claimed his agent tried to double the fee, but the New York Giants starting quarterback on Tuesday made for a happy ending.

DeVito, facing negative reaction after the story went viral online, made an appearance at no cost Tuesday at Coniglio’s Old Fashioned in Morristown, N.J., according to multiple media reports.

Coniglio’s had announced the cancellation on Sunday on Instagram after DeVito and the Giants lost 24-6 to the New Orleans Saints. DeVito, an undrafted rookie who grew up near the Giants’ home, MetLife Stadium, had risen in fame after leading the team to three straight victories, including a comeback 24-22 win over the Green Bay Packers on “Monday Night Football” on Dec. 11.

Coniglio’s said that DeVito’s agent, Sean Stellato, raised the appearance fee from $10,000 to $20,000 after the win over the Packers.

“After last week’s win we received word from his agent that his appearance fee would be doubling (went from 10k to 20); We are a small family run business & decided $20,000 was a bit steep for 2 hours,” the pizzeria wrote in the post. “Apologies to anyone who had already purchased a ticket.”

Stellato told sports business reporter Darren Rovell that there was never a formal agreement.

“It’s a shame that the restaurant promoted that they would have Tommy when we didn’t have a signed contract,” he wrote Rovell in a text. “We didn’t raise the price because nothing was ever agreed to.”

The restaurant’s owner, Nino Coniglio, told Rovell: “We agreed in principle to terms — two hours, 250 autographs and $10,000, and then the agent couldn’t be reached. He reached back out after Monday’s game to tell us the price was now $20,000.”

Rovell posted a screenshot to social media of a text exchange that Coniglio provided with Stellato referencing the $10,000 fee.

DeVito vaulted from practice squad player to QB1 after injuries to starter Daniel Jones and backup Tyrod Taylor. DeVito has completed 103 of 160 passes for 1,032 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions.

He is earning the rookie-minimum $750,000 this season.
