The Minnesota Vikings and cornerback Jeff Okudah, a former first-round pick, agreed to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

That’s according to agent Kevin Conner, the CEO of Universal Sports and Management, ESPN reported. No financial terms were disclosed.

Okudah, 26, is returning to the NFC North, where he started his career with the Detroit Lions, who selected him No. 3 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Due to multiple injuries, he appeared in just 25 games (22 starts) over three seasons in Detroit. He followed that tenure with one year with the Atlanta Falcons (13 games, nine starts) and one with the Houston Texans (six games, no starts).

Over his career, Okudah has two interceptions for 56 yards and a touchdown, as well as 177 tackles and 14 passes defensed.

NFL transactions roundup: Lions, WR Tim Patrick stick together

Wide receiver Tim Patrick re-signed with the Detroit Lions on Friday, one day after the veteran literally left the writing on his wall.

Patrick posted a picture of a shirt on Instagram on Thursday inscribed with the words: “I only want to work with the Lions.”

NFL Network and the Detroit Free Press reported the one-year contract for 2025 is worth a maximum value of $4 million.

Patrick, 31, had 33 receptions, 394 yards and three touchdowns with the Lions in 2024, his first game action since 2021 with the Denver Broncos.

He played 16 games last season after overcoming consecutive season-ending injuries. He tore the ACL in his right knee in 2022 training camp and almost exactly one year later, he tore his left Achilles in training camp in July 2023.

He signed with the Lions’ practice squad in August 2024 and signed to the active roster in September.

Patrick caught 143 passes for 2,009 yards and 12 TDs in 55 games (37 starts) with the Broncos from 2018-21.

NFL transactions roundup: Dolphins, Bucs LBs swap spots

Linebacker K.J. Britt and Anthony Walker are trading places.

ESPN reported Thursday that the Buccaneers have agreed to a one-year deal with Walker, formerly of the Dolphins. And Britt, selected by Tampa Bay in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, now is heading to Miami on a one-year contract of his own.

Walker, a fifth-round draft pick by the Colts in 2017, is joining his fourth team; he also played for the Cleveland Browns. In one season with Miami in 2024, he played in 14 games (eight starts) and had 68 tackles, a sack, an interception and two pass break-ups.

Britt played in 59 games (15 starts) over four seasons with the Bucs, with his best season coming in 2024. He started 11 games and made a career-high 72 tackles.

–The Eagles are adding linebacker Josh Uche on a one-year contract. Philadelphia lost Josh Sweat in free agency.

Uche, a second-round draft pick in 2020 by the New England Patriots, has played in 64 career games (four starts). Six of those games came last season in Kansas City, who traded for him in October.

He has 86 career tackles (19 for loss) and 20.5 sacks with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

–The Tennessee Titans signed four-time All-Pro punter Johnny Hekker.

He spent 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, followed by three with the Carolina Panthers. He was a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

Last season in Carolina, he averaged 45.7 yards on 73 punts with a 41.5-yard net average.

NFL transactions roundup: Steelers to sign RB Kenneth Gainwell

Kenneth Gainwell is set to join the Pittsburgh Steelers in a reshaped backfield without Najee Harris and no defined answer at quarterback.

Gainwell agreed to a one-year deal, according to multiple reports Wednesday, and gives the Steelers some insurance behind restricted free agent Jaylen Warren. Warren was given a second-round tender offer by the Steelers this week and is projected to be Pittsburgh’s starter in the absence of Harris. Harris, a 2021 first-round pick, agreed to a one-year deal with the Chargers in free agency.

Gainwell, who turns 26 on Friday, was a fifth-round pick in 2021 and averaged 4.2 yards per carry in four seasons with the Eagles. He’s capable of being a third-down back and averaged 7.1 yards per catch with 102 receptions for 721 yards. He had a total of 1,906 yards and 13 touchdowns with Philadelphia.

Warren, 26, averaged 4.8 yards per carry with 127 receptions in his first three seasons. He was expected to start the 2024 season in a co-No. 1 role with Harris until a hamstring injury slowed him down.

–Defensive tackle Greg Gaines re-signed with the Buccaneers.

Gaines reportedly will receive $3.5 million for the 2025 season, his third with the team. A backup nose tackle, he played in 15 games (three starts) in 2024 and had 17 tackles with one sack.

Gaines, 28, is entering his seventh season after four years with the Los Angeles Rams. He has 163 tackles and 12.5 sacks in 91 career games (30 starts).

NFL transaction notebook: Pats down to one QB

The New England Patriots have only one quarterback, Mac Jones, on their roster after cutting Bailey Zappe and rookie Malik Cunningham on Tuesday, a day after releasing Trace McSorley.

The moves came on the day NFL teams were required to reduce their rosters to 53 players.

Zappe, who started two games last season, had a relatively ineffective 2023 preseason. He finished the team’s final tune-up game against the Tennessee Titans going 8-for-15 for 57 yards and taking four sacks.

Zappe, 24, was a fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky by New England in the 2022 draft and appeared in four games last season, connecting on 65 of his 92 pass attempts for 781 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. He and Cunningham, undrafted out of Louisville, are candidates to join the Patriots’ practice squad.

–The saga between the Indianapolis Colts and RB Jonathan Taylor continued, with the Colts keeping Taylor on the reserve/physically unable to perform list with no trade materializing, according to multiple reports.

Taylor, 24, reportedly requested a trade from Indianapolis July 30 due to the lack of contract extension talks. NFL Network reported that there was “significant interest” from two teams, but no trade came to fruition.

Taylor is ineligible to play the season’s first four games due to being on the PUP list.

–Pass rusher Von Miller will miss at least the first four games of the season with the Buffalo Bills deciding not to remove him from the physically unable to perform list prior to the Tuesday deadline.

Miller, 34, injured his right ACL in the Bills’ 28-25 victory over the Detroit Lions last Thanksgiving. The three-time All-Pro recorded eight sacks and 21 tackles while forcing one fumble in 11 games (all starts) last season, his first since signing a six-year, $120 million contract.

–The Baltimore Ravens released two-time Pro Bowl running back Melvin Gordon.

Gordon rushed for 59 yards on 17 carries in three preseason games for the Ravens. Baltimore kept Keaton Mitchell, an undrafted running back from East Carolina, instead of Gordon.

–The Carolina Panthers released veteran linebacker Deion Jones and acquired wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jones, 28, was a second-round pick in 2016 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2017 with the Atlanta Falcons. Smith-Marsette came over in a deal that included a swap of conditional 2025 seventh-round picks. He had nine catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns in the preseason.

–The New York Giants acquired defensive end Boogie Basham and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Bills in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick, according to ESPN.

Basham, 25, was a second-round pick in 2021 and registered 4.5 sacks in 23 career games (no starts) with Buffalo. Per ESPN, the Giants cut 2019 third-round pick Oshane Ximines after picking up Basham. Ximines had two sacks last year and 6.5 total over 45 games (nine starts) with New York in four seasons.

–The New Orleans Saints traded veteran kicker Wil Lutz to Denver, reuniting him with Broncos head coach Sean Payton. The Saints’ compensation wasn’t announced, but multiple media outlets reported it would be a 2024 seventh-round draft pick.

Lutz, 29, entered the NFL with New Orleans and then-coach Payton in 2016 and made the Pro Bowl in 2019, but is coming off his worst season. He made a career-low 74.2 percent of his field-goal attempts (23 of 31) but converted all 33 extra points in 17 games in 2022.

–The NFL placed Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Chris Claybrooks on the commissioner’s exempt list. Claybrooks, arrested twice this offseason on domestic violence charges, may not practice or attend games while on the list.

He was arrested in Duval County on July 21 on charges of misdemeanor domestic battery and false imprisonment, a third-degree felony. Claybrooks pleaded not guilty to those charges on Aug. 14 and his next scheduled court date is Sept. 11, according to the Florida Times-Union.

–The Tennessee Titans acquired kicker Nick Folk from the New England Patriots in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft, multiple media outlets reported.

Folk, 38, made 32 of 37 field-goal attempts and 32 of 35 extra-point tries in 17 games last season for the Patriots.

–The Houston Texans placed offensive lineman Kenyon Green on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury, then reportedly filled the vacancy by acquiring Kendrick Green from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick.

Kenyon Green, 22, was a 2022 first-round pick who started 14 games last year. Kendrick Green, 24, was a third-round selection in 2021 and started 15 games at center during his rookie season.

–The Dallas Cowboys acquired former first-round pick Noah Igbinoghene from the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday in exchange for fellow cornerback Kelvin Joseph, multiple media outlets reported.

Igbinoghene, 23, recorded 10 tackles, one interception and three pass deflections in nine games (two starts) last season.

–Instead of being released by the Denver Broncos, tight end Albert Okwuegbunam is reportedly headed to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Broncos had reportedly indicated Tuesday morning that they intended to waive the former fourth-round pick, but the Eagles swooped in and sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to Denver in exchange for Okwuegbunam and a 2025 seventh-round pick, according to ESPN.

–The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly acquired defensive tackle Neil Farrell from the division rival Las Vegas Raiders. ESPN reported that the Raiders received a sixth-round pick in exchange, although the draft year was not specified.

–The Chicago Bears acquired veteran guard Dan Feeney from the Miami Dolphins for a 2024 sixth-round pick, according to multiple reports. Feeney, 29, signed a one-year deal with Miami in March after spending the last two seasons with the New York Jets.

NFL roster cuts: Cowboys drop two QBs

Field Level Media is tracking the wave of roster cuts in the NFL with all 32 teams facing a 4 p.m. deadline Tuesday to reduce their 80-man rosters to 53.

Additional players can be added to the team’s practice squad.

===================================================================

In Dallas, Cooper Rush is the lone backup quarterback to Dak Prescott on the 53-man regular-season roster of the Cowboys.

Owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday morning on 105.3 FM in Dallas that Rush was more consistent and has the experience edge, which led to the team releasing competing backups Garrett Gilbert and Ben DiNucci.

The Cowboys also released safety Darian Thompson. ESPN reported Thompson is a candidate to join the practice squad if he’s not claimed by another team.

NFL cuts: Tim Tebow, Lamar Miller let go

Tim Tebow’s comeback bid with the Jacksonville Jaguars ended when NFL teams trimmed their rosters from 90 to 85 on Tuesday.

Tebow was released along with four others in Jacksonville — wide receivers Josh Imatorbhebhe and Tim Jones, defensive tackle Daniel Ross and cornerback DJ Daniel — after attempting to return from a brief minor-league baseball career with the New York Mets.

First-year Jaguars coach Urban Meyer was allowing Tebow, a Heisman and national title winner at Florida under Meyer’s watch, to attempt a move to tight end.

–Running back Lamar Miller was released by the Washington Football Team.

Miller has played in only one regular-season game since 2018 due to injuries and was one of six running backs in training camp with Washington.

Another longtime NFL back, Alfred Morris, was released by the New York Giants.
