Falcons add veteran Trevor Siemian to QB room

The Atlanta Falcons are signing veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian, his agent confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

Siemian, 34, adds depth behind newcomer Tua Tagovailoa and 2024 first-round pick Michael Penix Jr.

Terms weren’t disclosed for Siemian, who last appeared in an NFL regular-season game in 2023 with the New York Jets. He spent most of the 2024 and 2025 campaigns on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad.

Siemian is 15-18 as a starter, completing 58.5% of his passes for 7,751 yards, 44 touchdowns and 32 interceptions in 40 games with the Denver Broncos (2015-17), Jets (2019, 2023), New Orleans Saints (2021) and Chicago Bears (2022). He has rushed for 251 yards and two scores.

The Broncos drafted Siemian in the seventh round in 2015.

Trevor Siemian in, Zach Wilson (concussion) out for Jets

The New York Jets will turn to Trevor Siemian as the starting quarterback on Sunday against the Washington Commanders with Zach Wilson still in concussion protocol.

Head coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Brett Rypien will back up Siemian. Aaron Rodgers, newly activated from injured reserve, will not serve as the No. 3 quarterback, Saleh said.

Siemian, 31, has appeared in two games in relief this season. He replaced Wilson in last Sunday’s 30-0 loss at Miami, completing 14 of 26 passes for 110 yards with two interceptions.

He also played Dec. 3 in a 13-8 loss to Atlanta and was 5-of-13 passing for 66 yards.

Siemian has appeared in 37 career games and is 13-17 as a starter for four teams. He has thrown for 7,203 yards with a 58.5 percent completion rate, throwing 42 touchdown passes and 30 interceptions.

The Jets (5-9) have been eliminated from playoff contention. After Sunday’s game in East Rutherford, N.J., they close the season on the road against the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots.

QB Trevor Siemian to be inactive Sunday for the Jets

Quarterback Trevor Siemian, signed Tuesday to the Jets practice squad, will be inactive Sunday night when New York hosts the Kansas City Chiefs.

Head coach Robert Saleh told reporters Tuesday that he expects Siemian to pick up the offense quickly and he will determine the veteran’s status on a week-by-week basis.

“He’s obviously got a lot of games under his belt. He’s a quick learner, a quick study from my understanding,” Saleh said. “Just giving the ability to come on the practice squad and help us out was the best decision for us.”

Saleh has been staunchly in the corner of Zach Wilson, who took over after Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in the first quarter of his Jets debut. Wilson is scheduled to start against the Chiefs on Sunday with Tim Boyle as his backup.

Siemian, 31, is making his second stint in New York. He is 13-17 as a starter for the Denver Broncos (2015-17), Jets (2019), New Orleans Saints (2021) and Chicago Bears (2022).

He spent the offseason with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Wilson has completed just 52.4 percent of his passes for 467 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions for the Jets (1-2) this season.

Report: Jets to sign QB Trevor Siemian

The New York Jets are signing quarterback Trevor Siemian to a contract, ESPN reported on Tuesday.

The move, pending a physical, will begin Siemian’s second stint with the Jets. Siemian previously played with the team in 2019.

Siemian, 31, joins Tim Boyle as backups behind Zach Wilson, who was thurst into the starting role after offseason acquisition Aaron Rodgers was injured during New York’s season-opening win over the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 11.

Wilson, however, has completed just 52.4 percent of his passes for 467 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions for the Jets (1-2).

Siemian signed a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals in May but didn’t make the roster.

He appeared in two games for the Chicago Bears in 2022, going 0-1 as the starter in place of Justin Fields. Siemian threw for 184 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Siemian is 13-17 as a starter for the Denver Broncos, Jets, New Orleans Saints and Bears.

Siemian is 13-17 as a starter for four different teams in six seasons.

The Bears also agreed to a one-year contract with defensive tackle Andrew Billings, pending a physical.

Billings, 28, has 4.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss in 67 games (51 starts) over five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals (2017-19), Cleveland Browns (2021) and Las Vegas Raiders (2022).

Bears’ Justin Fields inactive, Trevor Siemian to start vs. Jets

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields was listed as inactive for Sunday’s game against the host New York Jets in East Rutherford, N.J.

Trevor Siemian, who has thrown one pass this season, will get the starting nod versus the Jets (6-4). Nathan Peterman will serve as the backup for the Bears (3-8), who have lost four in a row.

Fields is nursing an injury to his non-throwing (left) shoulder sustained in last Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

Fields has passed for 1,642 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 11 games this season. He has scored seven touchdowns on the ground and ranks sixth in the NFL with 834 rushing yards.

Bears sign QB Trevor Siemian to 2-year deal, agent says

Trevor Siemian is returning to the same lakefront where he shined as a collegiate quarterback.

The former Northwestern signal-caller agreed to a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears on Thursday night, his agent announced.

Siemian, 30, likely will take over the backup role behind second-year quarterback Justin Fields. The Bears also have veteran quarterback Nick Foles on the roster, although he served as a third-stringer for most of last season and the team could look to move him.

In 33 career games (29 starts), Siemian has completed 58.9 percent of his passes for 6,843 yards, 41 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. He has a career passer rating of 81.2.

Last season, Siemian appeared in six games and started four of them for the New Orleans Saints. He threw for 1,154 yards, 11 touchdowns and three picks.

Siemian also has played for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets during his career. He threw a career-high 18 touchdown passes for Denver in 2016.

Report: Taysom Hill, Trevor Siemian headed to COVID list

The New Orleans Saints’ jack-of-all-trades Taysom Hill and quarterback Trevor Siemian are headed to the reserve/COVID-19 list, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

Their departures pave the way for rookie quarterback Ian Book to make his NFL debut for New Orleans in Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Book was selected by the Saints in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame.

Hill, 31, has completed just 55.7 percent of his passes for 649 yards with two touchdowns and five interceptions this season. He has rushed for 311 yards and a team-high five touchdowns, however.

Siemian, who turns 30 on Sunday, has completed 57.2 percent of his passes for 1,083 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions this season.

The Saints (7-7) have answered a five-game losing skid by winning back-to-back games.
