Titans WR Treylon Burks in concussion protocol

Tennessee Titans receiver Treylon Burks is in the NFL’s concussion protocol after briefly losing consciousness after a fall in Thursday night’s game in Pittsburgh.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel updated Burks’ condition on Friday, saying he had been in communication via text and was expected to be at the team facilities in the afternoon.

“From what it looked like I would say that it’s probably going to be as good of a prognosis as what it could’ve been just looking at the visual of all that,” Vrabel said. “We understand what the risks are involved when Treylon sold out to make a play. I’m hopeful, we’re all hopeful that we’ll get him back as soon as possible.”

Burks was carted off the field with 2:06 left in the 20-16 loss to the Steelers.

He was injured while trying to make a catch deep down the left sideline. He landed out of bounds and rolled awkwardly, with the trainers quickly responding to him.

“There was a brief loss of consciousness,” Vrabel said. “That’s why they reacted in the manner in which they did. It sounds like everybody did exactly what they were supposed to do based on the protocol and making sure that Treylon’s well-being was looked after as quickly and correctly as possible.”

Burks, 23, raised a thumb as he was being carted off the field and later walked to the team bus with assistance.

He caught two passes for 23 yards and rushed once for 5 yards in the game. The 2022 first-round draft pick has eight catches for 122 yards and no touchdowns in five games this season.

Titans place first-round WR Treylon Burks (toe) on IR

Wide receiver Treylon Burks, the Tennessee Titans’ 2022 first-round pick, will miss at least four games with a toe injury.

The Titans placed him on injured reserve Saturday, making him eligible to return no earlier than Nov. 13 against the Denver Broncos.

Burks, 22, already had been ruled out of Sunday’s road game against the Washington Commanders.

In the first four games this season, Burks had 10 catches for 129 yards. He hurt his toe last week in the fourth quarter of the Titans’ win at Indianapolis.

The Titans filled Burks’ spot on the 53-man roster with linebacker Monty Rice, 23, who was activated from the physically unable to perform list.

A third-round draft pick in 2021, Rice contributed 36 tackles and one pass defensed in 10 games (four starts) last season. He sustained a season-ending Achilles injury that forced him to miss the final six games of the season, including the Titans’ playoff loss.
