Report: Tyler Huntley returning to Ravens on 2-year deal

Quarterback Tyler Huntley is staying with the Baltimore Ravens, with the sides agreeing to a two-year $5 million deal, multiple outlets reported.

Per reports, the contract contains up to $6 million in incentives.

Huntley, 28, has spent five of his six NFL seasons with the Ravens, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2020.

The Miami Dolphins claimed him off the Ravens’ practice squad in 2024, and he re-signed with the Ravens in 2025.

He has started 11 games for an injured Lamar Jackson and started five more in place of Tua Tagovailoa with the Dolphins and has a 7-9 record as a starter.

Huntley has appeared in 30 games overall, completing 66.2% of his passes for 3,212 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He has five rushing touchdowns and 795 yards on the ground.

With Ravens’ Lamar Jackson out vs. Bears, Tyler Huntley to start

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson will miss his third straight game on Sunday due to his right hamstring injury, the team announced Saturday.

Tyler Huntley will get the start against the visiting Chicago Bears, while Jackson is expected to be under center on Thursday when Baltimore (1-5) visits the Miami Dolphins.

Jackson had been listed as questionable to face the Bears (4-2) before being downgraded on Saturday.

The Ravens signed Huntley to the 53-man roster on Friday and announced he would start if Jackson was unable to play. Huntley was previously on the practice squad.

“I always prepare to start,” Huntley said Friday. “I treat it like every week. I’m studying and drawing out the plays, watching film and everything I need to do to be prepared, like I do every week.”

Without Jackson, the Ravens spun their tires with backup Cooper Rush operating the offense. In his two starts, they managed 13 total points, zero touchdown passes and six turnovers, prompting Huntley to enter the game in Rush’s place against the Los Angeles Rams two weeks ago.

Baltimore was on a bye last week.

Huntley took reps with the starting offense all week while Jackson was listed as limited. The Ravens originally listed Jackson as a full practice participant on Friday but changed his status to limited on Saturday after conferring with the NFL office.

Huntley has a 3-6 record as a fill-in starter for Baltimore.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson back at practice, Week 8 status TBD

Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson returned to practice on Wednesday, but good luck getting head coach John Harbaugh to discuss his status for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

Harbaugh said he had nothing to share specific to the injury or regarding the chances of the Ravens having him in the lineup on Sunday.

Jackson’s participation was a first since he injured his hamstring in Baltimore’s 37-20 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 28. He was officially listed as a limited participant, as was two-time Pro Bowl safety Kyle Hamilton (groin) on Wednesday’s practice report.

Harbaugh said he sensed more energy from the team with Jackson on the practice field.

“Of course, I think the energy level changes. Heck yeah. Lamar is our quarterback,” Harbaugh said. “Our guys responded with great energy.”

Jackson was limited with his practice primarily consisting of stretching and some flat-footed throws. He embraced offensive coordinator Todd Monken as he reached the practice field before the workout.

Quarterbacks Cooper Rush and Tyler Huntley worked in team drills while Jackson largely had an individual workout.

Rush started each of the last two games for the Ravens (1-5), who will return from their bye with a third consecutive home game, welcoming the Bears (4-2) on Sunday.

Jackson, 28, threw a league-leading 10 touchdown passes and posted a 130.5 passer rating in his four starts. The Ravens averaged 32.8 points per game in those starts, but they have managed a total of 13 points in the two contests since the two-time NFL MVP went to the sidelines.

Report: Browns to release QB Tyler Huntley

The Cleveland Browns are planning to release the only quarterback in camp that had been voted to a Pro Bowl.

ESPN reported Sunday that the Browns are releasing Tyler Huntley, who was a longshot to make the 53-man roster on Tuesday. The five-year veteran came to camp last month in the wake of an injury to Kenny Pickett.

In addition to Pickett, rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are expected to make the initial Cleveland roster. Joe Flacco, 40, was named the Browns’ starter earlier this week by head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Huntley played four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, getting into 20 games as a backup to Lamar Jackson. He was voted to the 2022 Pro Bowl as a replacement for Buffalo’s Josh Allen.

He spent 2024 with the Miami Dolphins and went 2-3 as a starter.

Browns QBs Shedeur Sanders, Tyler Huntley to take reps in preseason opener

Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will start the preseason opener Friday when the Cleveland Browns meet the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, N.C.

Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the move on Wednesday.

The Browns have five quarterbacks in camp, but only two — Sanders and newly signed Tyler Huntley — are expected to play against the Panthers.

Kenny Pickett and rookie Dillon Gabriel are nursing hamstring injuries, and Stefanski and staff already know what 40-year-old Joe Flacco can do.

Stefanski said a number of veterans are unlikely to take the field.

“It’s a great opportunity for all of our young players in that football game,” he said.

The Browns selected Gabriel, 24, in the third round of the draft from Oregon and Sanders, 23, in the fifth round from Colorado. Sanders, who played for his father, Deion Sanders, in college, had been considered a first-round talent.

Huntley, 27, started five games last season with the Miami Dolphins in place of an injured Tua Tagovailoa. He had a 2-3 record, completing 86 of 133 pass attempts for 829 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Dolphins preparing QB Tyler Huntley to start vs. Jets

The Miami Dolphins are preparing quarterback Tyler Huntley to start Sunday’s critical matchup at the New York Jets in place of Tua Tagovailoa, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Wednesday.

However, McDaniel said if Tagovailoa is medically cleared and has seen enough improvement in his injured hip, the team is comfortable switching to start him in Sunday’s must-win game.

Tagovailoa will be limited in practice Wednesday. He initially injured his hip against the Houston Texans on Dec. 15 and absorbed another hit versus the San Francisco 49ers a week later. He missed last week’s 20-3 win over the Cleveland Browns, which kept the Dolphins (8-8) in contention for a playoff spot.

Huntley, 26, has started four games this season, completed 61 of 92 passes (66.3 percent) for 602 yards, two TDs and one pick. He also ran 23 times for 119 yards and two scores.

Tagovailoa already has missed five games this season because of a concussion while starting the other 11. He has completed 291 of 399 passes (league-best 72.9 percent) for 2,867 yards, 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Dolphins QB Tyler Huntley hurts shoulder, ruled out vs. Colts

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley departed Sunday’s contest against the Indianapolis Colts in the third quarter with an injury to his throwing shoulder.

The Dolphins initially said Huntley was questionable to return, but soon after he was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Huntley exited the game after taking a hit to the right shoulder from Kenny Moore II while throwing an incomplete pass on third down with 7:36 left in the third quarter. He immediately went to the locker room.

Tim Boyle took over when Miami next had the ball. The Dolphins remain without Tua Tagovailoa, who sustained a concussion in Week 2.

Huntley completed 7 of 13 passes for 87 yards and one touchdown before exiting. He rushed for 20 yards on five carries.

The contest was tied at 10 after three quarters.

Dolphins QB Tyler Huntley to start Monday vs. Titans

Tyler “Snoop” Huntley will be the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins in Monday night’s game against the visiting Tennessee Titans.

Huntley will make his Dolphins debut and veteran Tim Boyle will serve as his backup with Tua Tagovailoa still in the concussion protocol and Skylar Thompson dealing with a rib injury, coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Saturday.

“Snoop has started multiple and many big games,” McDaniel said. “…As a quarterback, understanding exactly what is required to win over teammates to take the place of someone else and assert their own personality and skillset and traits within the offense and lead people.”

Miami signed Huntley, 26, off Baltimore’s practice squad on Sept. 17. He played in 20 games and made nine starts (3-6 record) for the Ravens from 2020-23.

Huntley, who was named to the Pro Bowl after the 2022 season, has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 1,957 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has rushed for 509 yards and three scores.

Huntley told reporters on Thursday that he was getting the hang of McDaniel’s offense.

“It’s like riding a bike — first time, you’re a little iffy, you didn’t know how to pedal,” Huntley said. “Then you just start putting it all together, pedaling, going in a straight line, then after a while, you’re going to start standing up.”

Huntley was the emergency third quarterback for Miami (1-2) in last Sunday’s 24-3 loss at Seattle. Thompson was 13-of-19 passing for 107 yards and was sacked five times before exiting. Boyle completed 7 of 13 passes for 79 yards. Neither had a touchdown or an interception.

Huntley spent four seasons with the Ravens and made all his starts while Lamar Jackson was sidelined with injuries. He went to training camp with the Cleveland Browns this year and was later released.

Huntley, who grew up in the Miami area, was asked this week about potentially starting for the Dolphins against the Titans (0-3).

“That’s a child’s dream,” he said. “Being able to play for your home team … it’d mean everything in the world.”

Ravens bring back QB Tyler Huntley, place him on practice squad

The Baltimore Ravens brought back quarterback Tyler Huntley, a Pro Bowl player for the team in 2022, and placed him on the practice squad on Saturday.

Huntley, 26, spent the past four seasons as a backup to starter Lamar Jackson before signing a one-year, $1.29 million contract with the Cleveland Browns in March.

Cleveland released him on Thursday with three other quarterbacks on its roster. Baltimore has two-time NFL Most Valuable Player Jackson and veteran Josh Johnson on its 53-man roster, with Huntley and rookie Devin Leary, a sixth-round pick out of Kentucky, on the practice squad.

Huntley was named to the Pro Bowl in 2022 after completing 67 percent of his passes for 658 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions in six games (four starts).

He has thrown for 1,957 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 20 games (nine starts) with the Ravens. He signed with Baltimore in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Utah.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson (4) heads back to the locker room before an NFL preseason football game at Cleveland Browns Stadium, Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Reports: Browns restructure QB Deshaun Watson’s contract

The Cleveland Browns restructured quarterback Deshaun Watson’s contract in a move that created $35.832 million in salary cap space, multiple media outlets reported on Thursday.

Per the reports, the Browns converted $44.79 million of Watson’s $46 million base salary this season into a signing bonus. The move gives the Browns more than $62 million in cap space.

Also on Thursday, multiple outlets reported that Cleveland was expected to release quarterback Tyler Huntley. That would leave the Browns with Watson, Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the quarterback room ahead of the season opener against the visiting Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 8.

The Browns adjusted Watson’s NFL-record $230 million fully guaranteed deal prior to the start of free agency in 2023, clearing approximately $36 million in cap space.

Watson, 28, will have cap hits of $72.9 million in the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with $172 million and $99 million in dead cap hits, respectively.

Watson has played just 12 games for the Browns over two seasons since they acquired him from the Houston Texans. He served an 11-game suspension to begin the 2022 season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, in connection to lawsuits from more than two dozen female massage therapists alleging sexual harassment and assault.

Then, multiple injuries limited Watson to six games in 2023, when he threw for 1,115 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes.

Watson, a three-time Pro Bowler during his time with Houston, has thrown for 16,756 yards, 118 touchdowns and 45 interceptions in 66 games (65 starts) since entering the league in 2017. He has a 36-29 record as a starter.

Huntley signed a one-year, $1.29 million contract with the Browns in March.

Huntley, 26, spent four seasons as a backup to Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2022 after completing 67.0 percent of his passes for 658 yards and two TDs in six games (four starts).

Huntley has thrown for 1,957 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 20 games (nine starts) with the Ravens. He signed with Baltimore in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Utah.
