Tennessee Titans receiver Tyler Lockett (4) celebrates with his teammates after falling on a fumble to score a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Oct. 5, 2025.

Veteran WR Tyler Lockett asks for, gets release from Titans

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett asked for his release from Tennessee, which the Titans granted on Monday, per multiple reports.

ESPN noted that Lockett was expected to become free to sign with another team Wednesday evening.

Lockett, 33, was an offseason signing for the Titans (one-year, $4 million deal) and has been largely unproductive, grabbing just 10 receptions for 70 yards over seven games (one start).

His most notable play this season was a fumble recovery for a touchdown late in the Titans’ comeback victory against the Arizona Cardinals, their only win of the season.

Lockett was an All-Pro and Pro Bowler over a prolific decade with the Seattle Seahawks, posting at least 40 catches in every season to go along with four seasons of 1,000-plus yards.

In addition to Seattle, Lockett has connections with the Las Vegas Raiders, where his former coach (Pete Carroll) and former quarterback (Geno Smith) reside. His former receiving partner in Seattle, D.K. Metcalf, now plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

WR Tyler Lockett signing one-year deal with Titans

Free agent wideout Tyler Lockett announced he is signing a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans.

“I’m excited to be a Tennessee Titan!!” the longtime Seattle Seahawks receiver posted Wednesday night on X. “I’m super thankful and grateful. Let’s get it!! God you get all the glory!!”

The deal is for $4 million and worth up to $6 million with incentives, ESPN reported.

The Seahawks parted ways with Lockett, 32, on March 5 after 10 seasons. Seattle saved $17 million, including a $5.3 million roster bonus that was due March 16.

Lockett finished with 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games (14 starts) last season.

A one-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection, Lockett has 661 receptions for 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns in his career. Each total ranks second only to Hall of Famer Steve Largent in Seattle history.

Lockett was selected by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Kansas State.

The Titans and Seahawks are scheduled to meet in Nashville during the 2025 season. The NFL schedule will be released in mid-May.

Reports: Seahawks give WR DK Metcalf OK to seek trade

The Seattle Seahawks have given standout wide receiver DK Metcalf permission to seek a trade, ESPN and NFL Network reported Wednesday.

Metcalf, 27, requested a trade to join a contender and the team has agreed to explore options, per the reports. The news hits the same day that the Seahawks released veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

Metcalf, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, is set to count $31.875 million against the team’s salary cap in 2025, per Spotrac. He’s set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026, meaning any trade likely would have to come with an extension.

Metcalf has 438 receptions for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns in 97 career games (93 starts) in six seasons with the Seahawks, who selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft.

The Seahawks finished 10-7 last season, its first under new head coach Mike Macdonald, but missed the playoffs after losing the tiebreaker to the Los Angeles Rams for the NFC West title.

Earlier Wednesday, the Seahawks released Lockett in a cost-cutting move. He was set to make $17 million this season, including a $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16.

Seattle’s passing game has shifted to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who hauled in 100 catches last season, 34 more than Metcalf. Lockett finished with 49.

Seahawks release veteran WR Tyler Lockett

The Seattle Seahawks released Tyler Lockett on Wednesday, parting ways with the wide receiver after 10 seasons.

The Seahawks made the move as opposed to paying Lockett $17 million this season, including a $5.3 million roster bonus due March 16.

Seattle’s passing game has shifted to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who tied Lockett’s franchise record with 100 catches last season. Lockett had 100 receptions in 2020.

Lockett, 32, finished with 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games (14 starts) last season.

A one-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection, Lockett has 661 receptions for 8,594 receiving yards and 61 touchdowns in his career. Each total ranks second only to Hall of Famer Steve Largent (819, 13,089, 100) in franchise history.

Lockett was selected by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Kansas State.

“I really enjoyed being in Seattle!” Lockett wrote on social media. “I met so many great people and captured so many great memories! The 12’s really make this place meaningful! Although, my time on the Seahawks may have run its course I’m thankful for everything!!”

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald was quick to praise Lockett for all that he has done with the organization.

“You think about Tyler and his career and the arc of his career, and to have that mentality, man, just the humility, putting the team first, what else can you ask for?” Macdonald said. “And he loves ball. That guy comes out here. He’s been doing it for such a long time, but the enthusiasm, the attitude, the productivity, man. The city knows Tyler, shoot, better than I do, but coming to know him this year has been a blessing for me personally too. I mean this guy, he’s just one of one. We absolutely love him.”

Tyler Lockett agrees to revised deal: ‘Seattle is home’

Receiver Tyler Lockett explained why he agreed to a revised two-year deal with the Seahawks: “Seattle is home.”

Lockett, 31, is heading into his 10th season with the franchise that drafted him in the third round in 2015.

His revised contract converted $4 million in salary to incentives and a signing bonus, shaving $8 million off his cap number for 2024, according to reports.

“Seattle is home,” Lockett said Wednesday, per the Seattle Times. “Obviously it’s a business and so you’ve got to kind of look and see what is good for them, you see what’s good for yourself, as well. And with everything that I had a chance to be able to do and become, it’s really cool that you hear that the staff wants you to be on the team, as well.

“… (I) try not to get too much into the contract because I’m still kind of in a blessed situation. So everybody kind of talks about the contract or talks about the money or says it’s a pay cut or whatever it is, but it’s enough for us to still be here. It’s enough for them to still want me.”

Lockett started all 17 games in 2023 and finished with 79 catches for 894 yards and five touchdowns, ending his streak of four straight 1,000-yard campaigns.

He enters 2024 ranked No. 2 in Seahawks history in career receptions (612), receiving yards (7,994) and touchdown catches (59), trailing Hall of Famer Steve Largent in all three categories.

Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett expected to play against Jets

As the Seattle Seahawks look to keep their playoff hopes alive Sunday, they’ll have wide receiver Tyler Lockett back on the field, per multiple reports.

Lockett is expected to slot into his usual No. 2 receiver role as the Seahawks (7-8) face the New York Jets (7-8) in a critical game in Seattle.

Lockett, 30, broke a bone in his hand in a Week 15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Several days later, he had 10 screws and a plate inserted in his hand.

He missed last week’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs but returned to the practice field this week, working back to a full practice by Friday.

“He did quite well,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday. “There was no indication of anything bothering him catching the ball. Right from the first time he came out here.”

Lockett is 16th in the NFL in receptions with 78 and leads Seattle with eight TD receptions. He needs 36 yards for his fourth straight 1,000-yard season.

Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett breaks finger vs. 49ers

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett sustained a broken index finger during his team’s final drive in Thursday’s 21-13 loss to the visiting San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.

Coach Pete Carroll said the team is assessing its options in regard to Lockett, who could have surgery with the hope of returning at some point this season.

“I can’t fathom playing without Tyler,” Carroll said. “I got a chance to hang with him, just to try to express what it’s like to be working with a guy like this for so long. He’s such an incredible player. He’s not in tremendous pain.”

Carroll continued: “You feel sorry for him, but he’s such a magnificent football player and a member of the team and member of the community and our area and our fans … that we’re gonna miss the heck out of him for whatever he misses.”

Carroll told reporters that Lockett’s injury is similar to the one running back Rashaad Penny sustained in training camp in 2018. Penny had surgery on Aug. 15 and was back on the field in time for the Seahawks’ season opener on Sept. 9.

“There’s a couple different ways that they can do the surgery,” Carroll said. “One of the ways gives him a chance to be back. Remember Rashaad Penny … had an injury similar, very similar. So they’ve already floated that thought and they’re going to talk about all the options and all that and we’re going to love him up and take care of him. Whatever the right thing to do to take care of him, we’re going to do.”

Lockett, 30, finished with seven catches for 68 yards on Thursday. He leads the team in receiving yards (964) and touchdowns (eight), while his 78 catches trail only DK Metcalf on the club.

The loss of Lockett likely will open the door for Marquise Goodwin to draw into the starting lineup for the Seahawks (7-7), who visit the Kansas Chiefs on Dec. 24. Goodwin has 38 catches for 387 yards with four touchdowns.

Colin Kaepernick, eyeing comeback, to work out with Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett

Colin Kaepernick has been out of the NFL since 2016, but the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback hasn’t given up hope of rejoining an NFL roster. And he might have the help of a prominent former divisional rival in making his NFL dream reality.

On Sunday, Kaepernick wrote on social media that he has been training for the past five years with an eye on a possible return, but that he missed working with genuine NFL receiving talent.

It didn’t take long for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett to take him up on his request, with Lockett tweeting back to Kaepernick, “Let’s do it bro! Me and my brother will come run routes for you!”

Kaepernick, 34, and Lockett, 29, faced off several times as divisional rivals in the NFC West, with Kaepernick recording just a 2-6 record against the rival Seahawks as a starter.

The Seahawks are currently in the market for a quarterback after they traded away longtime starter Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos earlier this month.

Kaepernick, a two-time member of the NFL’s Top 100 list, famously took a knee during the national anthem as a protest against racism and police brutality during the 2016 NFL season. He has been unable to make a return to the league since.

During the height of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell came out in support of a team taking a chance on re-signing Kaepernick, saying “I welcome that, support a club making that decision, and encourage them to do that.”

Around that same time, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll expressed regret about not signing the quarterback to some kind of deal after he became available in 2017.

“The rest of that story is one that I regret that didn’t happen in some fashion. I wish we would have contributed to it, because again, he deserved to play,” Carroll said.

“I thought at the time and just in our situation as a backup, man, I didn’t feel it was right at that time, so I had to make that football decision. It was about our team and the situation. We had our starting quarterback and all of that, and it wasn’t going to be the open competitive situation that I’d like to think all of our spots are because Russell is such a dominant figure and all that. That’s what happened.”

Kaepernick has thrown for 12,271 yards with a 72-30 touchdowns-to-interceptions ratio on 59.8 percent passing throughout his career. He also led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance (XLVII) following the 2012 season.

Lockett, a former first-team All-Pro, is coming off a 2021 season in which he posted 73 receptions for a career-high 1,175 yards with eight touchdowns.

Tyler Lockett returns, but 9 Seahawks remain on COVID list

The Seattle Seahawks activated wide receiver Tyler Lockett from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday, but they are still several players away from returning to full health.

Lockett, Seattle’s leading receiver this year with 1,023 yards on 62 receptions, was the first player on the team last week to test positive for COVID-19 and was not ready to return from the health and safety protocols in time to play the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday.

Nine Seahawks players remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Tight end Will Dissly was added Tuesday night after the Seahawks lost to the Rams and returned home. He joined running back Travis Homer, right tackle Brandon Shell, defensive end Kerry Hyder Jr., defensive tackle Bryan Mone and cornerback D.J. Reed, who were unable to play Tuesday.

Seattle’s totals also includes three practice squad players: cornerback Michael Jackson Sr., tight end Ryan Izzo and offensive lineman Pier-Olivier Lestage.

The Seahawks (5-9) face the Chicago Bears (4-10) on Sunday. The Bears placed standout defensive tackle Akiem Hicks on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
