Report: Colts re-sign DE Tyquan Lewis for 2023

The Colts are re-signing defensive end Tyquan Lewis to a one-year contract, the Indianapolis Star reported Sunday.

The deal is worth a reported $2.1 million and takes the 28-year-old off the free agent market.

A second-round pick in 2018, Lewis has 9.5 sacks in 48 games (16 starts) through five seasons with the Colts.

He played only eight games in 2021 and seven in 2022, ending both seasons on injured reserve with knee injuries.

Lewis tore his right patellar tendon in Week 8 in 2021 and ruptured his left patellar tendon in Week 8 last season.

Colts DL Tyquan Lewis (knee) out for season

Indianapolis Colts defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured left patella tendon.

He sustained the same season-ending injury to his right knee in Week 8 of last season, nearly one year ago to the day.

Head coach Frank Reich confirmed Monday that Lewis will have surgery for the injury sustained late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 17-16 loss to the Washington Commanders. He left the field on a cart.

“Our hearts go out to Tyquan,” Reich said. “He was having a great year. … We’ll support him every step of the way.”

Lewis, 27, recorded 14 tackles, four quarterback hits, one sack and one forced fumble in seven games (four starts) this season. The Colts’ 2018 second-round pick has 70 tackles, 9.5 sacks and one interception in 48 career contests (16 starts).

“It was tough, tough to see,” said wide receiver Parris Campbell, who played with Lewis at Ohio State. “I know what he battled through last year to get back to the point to where he was now.”

Also Monday, the Colts activated safety Trevor Denbow from injured reserve and released punter Nolan Cooney from the practice squad.

Colts’ Tyquan Lewis to miss rest of season; T.Y. Hilton out vs. Jets

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Tyquan Lewis will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, coach Frank Reich announced Monday.

Lewis sustained the injury on Sunday during an interception return in the second quarter of the Colts’ 34-31 overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans. Lewis, however, lost the ball and suffered the injury after he pivoted awkwardly and fell to the field.

Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton sustained a concussion in Sunday’s game as well for the Colts (3-5). Reich confirmed Hilton will sit out Thursday’s game against the New York Jets (2-5).

Lewis, 26, recorded 14 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one interception in eight games (two starts) this season. He has 56 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 41 career games (12 starts) since being selected by the Colts in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Hilton, 31, had two receptions for 16 yards on Sunday to boost his two-game season totals to six and 96, respectively.

Hilton has 614 catches for 9,456 yards and 50 touchdowns in 135 career games with the Colts. He made the Pro Bowl four straight years from 2014-17.
