Patriots’ Will Campbell sorry for Super Bowl media snub

New England Patriots rookie left tackle Will Campbell apologized to the media on Tuesday, two days after he skipped out on reporters following the team’s loss in Super Bowl LX.

Campbell, 22, said he wanted to get his head on straight before speaking into a live microphone after he allowed a sack and a Next Gen Stats-attributed 14 QB pressures allowed against an aggressive Seattle Seahawks defense. It didn’t get much better from there for the Patriots, who dropped a 29-13 decision to the Seahawks on Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif.

“When I get emotional, I tend to have no mind, and that’s not the way that I need to approach this thing,” Campbell said of snubbing the media. “I know myself, and if I would have spoken after, I would have said something that I didn’t need to say. So, I slept on it, I watched it. I know what I got to get better at and move on.”

Campbell admitted he was the target of criticism on social media, especially given that the Patriots selected him with the fourth overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.

“It comes with the job when you don’t perform. Obviously I was picked high, paid a lot. So people expect a certain thing, and I expect more of myself,” Campbell said. “So whenever I don’t perform, I don’t expect everyone to be like, ‘It’s OK, buddy.’ I mean, obviously it sucks. But it doesn’t suck for anyone more than it sucks for me.”

Campbell also acknowledged that the MCL sprain he sustained against the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 23 affected his performance late in the season. He was carted off the field in that game and went on injured reserve before returning for Week 18 and the playoffs.

The blind-side protector of quarterback Drake Maye wasn’t using it as an excuse, however.

“Obviously it wasn’t 100%. When you tear a ligament in your knee, it’s not gonna be how it was before. But I was healthy enough to go,” he said. “I’m not gonna say that it held me back, but it wasn’t the same as it was before. But I was good.”

There’s been chatter about if Campbell’s future will be at guard instead of left tackle after his postseason struggles, but Patriots coach Mike Vrabel wasn’t having any of that.

“Will is 22 years old. He’s our left tackle. He’ll get better. He’ll get stronger,” Vrabel said Tuesday. ” … There’s plays he’d like to have back. We’re not moving Will to guard, center, tight end or anywhere else.”

Pats LT Will Campbell (knee) expected to return to practice this week

New England Patriots rookie left tackle Will Campbell is expected to return to practice this week after missing four games with a knee injury, coach Mike Vrabel said Monday.

Sunday’s Week 18 game would be the earliest Campbell is eligible to come off injured reserve. He was placed on IR on Nov. 26 with a Grade 3 MCL sprain.

Vrabel gave no indication if Campbell could play Sunday, but he has a 21-day window to return to action once activated from IR, meaning he would still be eligible to return during the playoffs even if he sits out Sunday’s game.

Campbell, 21, was the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He started the first 12 games of the season before the injury occurred in a Week 12 win at Cincinnati.

While New England (13-3) has clinched the AFC East for the first time since 2019, it still has something to play for in Sunday’s game. A win over Miami paired with a Denver loss to the Los Angeles Chargers would give the Patriots the AFC’s No. 1 seed and the first-round bye and homefield advantage through to the Super Bowl that come with it.

Patriots rookie LT Will Campbell (knee) headed to IR

New England Patriots rookie left tackle Will Campbell will be placed on injured reserve with a knee sprain, head coach Mike Vrabel announced on Wednesday.

Campbell, the fourth overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, sustained the injury this past Sunday and was carted off the field during the third quarter of New England’s 26-20 victory over the host Cincinnati Bengals.

The blind-side protector of quarterback Drake Maye will sit out Patriots’ next four games as a result of the transaction.

Vrabel said Vederian Lowe, who was a starter last season, is expected to assume Campbell’s spot.

Campbell, 21, is eligible to return for New England’s regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins in Foxborough, Mass. The Patriots (10-2) are riding a nine-game winning streak and positioned for a strong playoff seed.

Campbell has started all 12 games this season, while Lowe has yet to start while appearing in all 12 games.

Patriots LT Will Campbell (leg) carted off field vs. Bengals

New England Patriots left tackle Will Campbell was carted off the field after sustaining an apparent leg injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Campbell appeared despondent after the injury. He draped a towel over his head as he rode in the back of a cart toward the visitors’ locker room in Cincinnati.

The 21-year-old is in his rookie season with New England. He has started 12 games this season protecting quarterback Drake Maye’s blind side.

Vederian Lowe replaced Campbell at left tackle following the injury.

Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez (hamstring) out vs. Raiders

New England Patriots starting cornerback Christian Gonzalez has been ruled out of the team’s season opener against the Las Vegas due to a hamstring injury, head coach Mike Vrabel said Friday.

Gonzalez, who was a second-team All-Pro in 2024, has not participated in practice since sustaining the injury on July 28.

Marcus Jones is listed as his backup on the Patriots’ unofficial depth chart on the team’s website.

Also on Friday, Vrabel said rookie left tackle Will Campbell will be listed as questionable for Sunday’s game in Foxborough, Mass. Campbell, who was selected with the fourth overall pick, is nursing an ankle injury.

Gonzalez, 23, recorded 59 tackles, 11 pass deflections and two interceptions while starting 16 games last season to earn a second-team All-Pro honor.

Selected with the 17th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, Gonzalez played just four games that year before suffering a season-ending torn labrum.

Tennessee WR Cedric Tillman (ankle) out vs. LSU

Tennessee star wide receiver Cedric Tillman won’t play Saturday against LSU in a key Southeastern Conference matchup because he is still recovering from a high ankle sprain, according to ESPN.

The outlet said Tillman did not make the trip to Baton Rouge, La., for the afternoon showdown between the eighth-ranked Volunteers (4-0, 1-0) and the No. 25 Tigers (4-1, 2-0).

Tillman underwent ankle surgery on Sept. 20 and has had limited physical activity with the team since then, ESPN reported, adding that the Vols are increasing his activity with the hope of him playing next Saturday against top-ranked Alabama.

Tillman missed Tennessee’s 38-33 win over then-No. 20 Florida on Sept. 24 because of his injury.

A preseason All-SEC receiver, Tillman has caught 17 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown in three appearances this season. He posted 64 receptions for 1,081 yards and 12 TDs a year ago and earned All-SEC second-team honors.

ESPN also reported Saturday that LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell will miss Saturday’s game after being hospitalized for dehydration on Friday evening.

Campbell, a true freshman, has started all five games for the Tigers this season.
