Vikings adding DT Jonathan Allen, G Will Fries

The Minnesota Vikings worked overtime to rebuild in the trenches, adding two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen and guard Will Fries on multi-year deals.

The Vikings announced the agreement with Allen. His agent, Blake Baratz of Team IFA, shared financial details and told outlets the deal is three years and $60 million.

ESPN reported that the agreement between Fries and the Vikings has a value of $88 million over five years.

Allen was released by the Commanders last week in a cost-cutting move after unsuccessfully attempting to trade him.

Allen was entering the final season of a four-year, $72 million contract but had no guaranteed money remaining on the deal. The move saved Washington $16.35 million toward the salary cap.

Allen, 30, was limited to eight games in 2024 because of a torn left pectoral muscle.

A Pro Bowl selection in 2021 and 2022, Allen totaled 401 career tackles, 42 sacks and 118 quarterback hits in 109 career games (108 starts). He was selected by Washington with the 17th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Fries, 26, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2021 draft.

He was limited to five games last season because of a serious leg injury suffered in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has played in 41 games (31 starts) and in his 22 starts in 2023-24, he allowed five sacks.

In Minnesota, he’ll be reunited with center Ryan Kelly, who was a four-time Pro Bowl selection with the Colts. Multiple outlets reported Monday that Kelly, 31, was joining the Vikings on a two-year, $18 million contract.

Colts place RG Will Fries (leg) on injured reserve

Indianapolis Colts right guard Will Fries was placed on injured reserve Monday with a fractured right lower leg suffered in Sunday’s loss at Jacksonville.

Fries, 26, underwent surgery on Sunday night, per Colts coach Shane Steichen.

Fries had his right leg rolled up on during a run by Trey Sermon. He reached for his lower leg and time was stopped with 5:22 left in the quarter.

A cart was brought out to remove the fourth-year veteran and medical staffers placed an air cast on Fries’ leg.

Fries has started 31 of 41 NFL games played since being drafted in the seventh round in 2021, including all 17 last season and the first five of the 2024 campaign.

The Colts also waived cornerback Dallis Flowers, who had appeared in four games this season.

Flowers, 27, is his third season with the Colts and has nine tackles, including one for loss, and one kick return for 30 yards this season.

In 21 career games (five starts) with Indianapolis, Flowers has 32 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He has also averaged 30.6 yards on 25 kickoff returns and 4.3 yards on three punt returns.

Colts G Will Fries carted off with right lower leg injury

Indianapolis Colts right guard Will Fries was carted off the field with a serious right lower leg injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Colts ruled him out for the rest of the game just minutes later.

Fries had his right leg rolled up on during Trey Sermon’s 2-yard run. He reached for his right lower leg and time was stopped with 5:09 left in the quarter.

A cart was brought out to remove the fourth-year pro. Players from both teams surrounded the cart and offered well wishes before he was taken off.

Fries, 26, pumped his left arm into the air multiple times while being removed and the Jacksonville fans cheered wildly.

Fries has started 31 of 41 NFL games played, including all 17 last season and the first five of the 2024 campaign.
