Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning (6) runs to the line after a first town pass in the second quarter of the NFL Week 18 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns at Paycor Stadium in downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.

Bengals re-sign QB Jake Browning

The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed exclusive rights free agent quarterback Jake Browning to a two-year contract through the 2025 season, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

Also, the Bengals signed unrestricted free agent quarterback Logan Woodside to a one-year deal for the 2024 season.

Undrafted out of Washington in 2019, Browning spent 2019-21 on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad. He then spent time on Cincinnati’s practice squad before filling in for the injured Joe Burrow last season.

Browning, 28, completed 171 of 243 passes (70.4 percent) for 1,936 yards with 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions in nine games (seven starts). He also rushed for 127 yards and three scores.

Woodside, 29, has completed 4 of 7 passes for 34 yards and an interception in 13 career games with the Tennessee Titans (2020-21) and Atlanta Falcons (2022-23). He was a seventh-round pick of the Bengals in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Falcons coach still weighing QB options for Week 16

Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith is still checking his list to find out which quarterback will start on Christmas Eve.

Smith told reporters Monday that either Desmond Ridder or Taylor Heinicke will be under center when the Falcons (6-8) host the Indianapolis Colts (8-6) on Sunday. He said the team will not bring in another quarterback and won’t start third-stringer Logan Woodside.

“Not final, but obviously still working through that,” Smith said. “Just met with the quarterbacks a minute ago before coming in here, and I’ll circle back with those guys because there’s some stuff we need to still work through.”

The Falcons suffered a 9-7 loss at lowly Carolina on Sunday for their second straight defeat, dropping them a game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints in the NFC South.

Ridder completed 12 of 20 passes for 152 yards with a touchdown and an interception against the Panthers. The second-year signal-caller is 6-6 as the starter, completing 63.3 percent of his throws for 2,528 yards with 10 TDs and 10 picks.

Heinicke played in three games (0-2 as a starter) when Ridder was in concussion protocol. He has completed 55.4 percent of his passes for 498 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Reports: QB Malik Willis starting preseason opener vs. Ravens

Rookie Malik Willis will be the starting quarterback when the Tennessee Titans open the preseason against the host Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, according to multiple reports.

Willis, a third-round pick out of Liberty, is competing with Logan Woodside for the backup job behind starter Ryan Tannehill.

Willis, 23, is viewed as the team’s quarterback of the future.

Willis had a solid 2021 season at Liberty as he passed for 2,857 yards, 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 878 yards and 13 scores. It was his second season as the starter for the Flames after transferring from Auburn.

Woodside, 27, was 1-for-3 passing for 7 yards in 2020 for the Titans. Those are the only NFL passes he has thrown since signing for a second stint with Tennessee in 2019.

Titans agree to deal with QB Siemian

Quarterback Trevor Siemian and the Tennessee Titans agreed to a one-year contract on Wednesday, according to Mike McCartney, the player’s agent.

Siemian, who has made 25 career NFL starts, is expected to compete with Logan Woodside for the backup job behind Ryan Tannehill.

Tennessee also reportedly cut quarterback Cole McDonald on Wednesday. He was the team’s seventh-round pick in April out of Hawaii.

Siemian, 28, was the Denver Broncos’ main starter for two seasons and passed for 30 touchdowns and 24 interceptions during the tenure.

He set career highs of 3,401 yards and 18 touchdowns in 14 games in 2016, but his production dropped in 2017 when he played in 11 games (10 starts) and tossed more interceptions (14 to 10) than the previous campaign.

Siemian finished the 2017 season on injured reserve due to a left shoulder injury.

Siemian was traded to the Minnesota Vikings following the season but didn’t see any playing time in 2018. He spent last season with the New York Jets and suffered a season-ending left ankle injury in a mid-September start in place of injured starter Sam Darnold.

The 25-year-old Woodside has never played in an NFL game.

Woodside played college football at Toledo and was a seventh-round pick in the 2018 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bengals waived him shortly before the start of the 2018 season and the Titans signed him to their practice squad. He was released by Tennessee three-plus weeks later.

The following spring, Woodside passed for 1,353 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions for the San Antonio Commanders of the Alliance of American Football. After the league suspended operations, Woodside re-signed with the Titans.

Woodside established school career records of 10,514 yards and 93 touchdowns at Toledo from 2013-17. He also threw 25 interceptions.

Woodside also set Toledo’s single-season touchdown passes mark with 45 in 2016.

McDonald passed for 8,032 yards, 70 touchdowns and 24 interceptions at Hawaii from 2016-19. He also rushed for 12 touchdowns.

The Titans also reportedly agreed to terms with tight end Geoff Swaim.

Swaim, 27, has 48 receptions for 401 yards and one touchdown in five seasons with the Dallas Cowboys (2015-18) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2019).
