Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy set to return vs. Ravens

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy is set to return for Sunday’s home game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Worthy has been out since he sustained a shoulder injury on the third snap of the season when he collided with teammate Travis Kelce.

Worthy was a limited participant in practice last week and did not play in last Sunday’s victory over the New York Giants. He did not have a designation on Kansas City’s final injury report Friday.

“He was running fast,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said about Worthy’s participation in practice this week. “We didn’t worry about his legs, right? It was an upper-body injury, so he’s been able to keep himself in good shape and ready to go.”

A first-round draft pick out of Texas last year, Worthy, 22, had 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns for the Chiefs. He also ran the ball 20 times for 104 yards and three TDs.

In three playoff games last season, Worthy had 19 receptions for 287 yards with three TDs, including two in the Super Bowl against the Eagles on eight receptions for 157 yards.

The Chiefs fell 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX at New Orleans.

Chiefs defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte (elbow) did not practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday. Defensive end Mike Danna (quad) is listed as doubtful, while cornerback Kristian Fulton (ankle) is questionable after both were limited Friday.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (shoulder) ruled out vs. Giants

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been ruled out for Sunday night’s game against the host New York Giants, the team announced Saturday.

Per the Chiefs, Worthy will not travel with the team to East Rutherford, N.J. He was listed as questionable after being a limited participant in practice throughout the week as he works his way back from a dislocated right shoulder.

Worthy sustained the injury after he collided with teammate Travis Kelce on a crossing route in the season opener.

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has team-leading totals in catches (15) and receiving yards (129) for the Chiefs, who are off to an 0-2 start.

Worthy, 22, enjoyed a fine rookie campaign last season when he scored nine touchdowns — six receiving, three rushing. He caught 59 passes for 638 yards.

Also on Saturday, the Chiefs elevated cornerback Kevin Knowles from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game.

Chiefs WRs Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals practice in limited capacity Wednesday

The Kansas City Chiefs appear poised to get an infusion of receiver talent for Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants.

Head coach Andy Reid said that he expected both Xavier Worthy (shoulder) and Jalen Royals (knee) to practice with no limitations on Wednesday, but both were listed as limited participants on the official injury report.

Worthy went down with a dislocated shoulder, later reported as a torn labrum, on the fourth play of the Chiefs’ season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. While it was originally feared Worthy would need surgery, he returned to practice late last week and is now in line to miss just one full game.

Worthy was productive as a rookie last season, finishing with 638 yards and six touchdown catches.

Royals, a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft, has been sidelined since training camp due to knee tendinitis.

“He’s coming (along) pretty good,” Reid said of Royals. “We’ll see how he does here. He’s been out for a while.”

Getting either of these targets back available would be a boost considering Rashee Rice has four games left to serve on a disciplinary suspension tied to a high-speed crash in March 2024.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, a two-time MVP, ranks 15th in the league with 445 passing yards through two games. He has been dealing with a right wrist issue and was listed on the injury report as a full participant.

Defensive end Mike Danna (quad) and cornerback Kristian Fulton (ankle) did not practice.

Both the Chiefs and host Giants are 0-2.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy ruled out for Super Bowl rematch vs. Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Saturday.

Worthy was listed as doubtful for the Chiefs (0-1) in the Super Bowl LIX rematch as he dealt with a dislocated right shoulder. The injury was sustained after he collided with teammate Travis Kelce on a crossing route in the season opener.

Saturday’s news is not necessarily shocking, as Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said one day earlier that Worthy had a “slim” chance of playing.

While running drills at practice Thursday, Worthy was wearing a white protective sleeve on his right arm that included padding at the upper arm and shoulder. Worthy did not participate in Wednesday’s practice and was a limited participant both Thursday and Friday.

Worthy enjoyed a fine rookie campaign last season when he scored nine touchdowns — six receiving, three rushing. He caught 59 passes for 638 yards.

The 22-year-old was expected to help soften the early-season loss of Rashee Rice, who is serving a six-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Rice, 25, was disciplined for his role in a multi-car, chain-reaction collision on a Dallas freeway in 2024. He pled guilty in July to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy has ‘slim’ chance to play vs. Eagles

The Kansas City Chiefs listed wide receiver Xavier Worthy as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, with coach Andy Reid leaving the door cracked open ever so slightly.

“I’d probably tell you it’s slim,” Reid said Friday. “But there’s still a chance to play, yeah.”

Reid said Worthy was doing “very well” in his recovery after teammate Travis Kelce collided with him in Week 1 and dislocated his right shoulder.

While running drills at practice Thursday, Worthy was wearing a white protective sleeve on his right arm that included padding at the upper arm and shoulder. Worthy was a limited participant both Thursday and Friday.

The 2024 first-round draft pick had 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns for the Chiefs as a rookie. He also ran the ball 20 times for 104 yards and three TDs.

The Chiefs, who are preparing for a Super Bowl LIX rematch against the defending champion Eagles, ruled out receiver Jalen Royals (knee).

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (shoulder) back at practice

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy returned to practice Thursday, nearly a week after he dislocated his right shoulder in the team’s season-opening defeat Friday against the Los Angeles Chargers at Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Worthy was a non-participant in Chiefs practice Wednesday and his status for Sunday’s Super Bowl rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles remains in doubt.

Worthy was injured when he collided with teammate Travis Kelce on a crossing pattern during Friday’s game on the third offensive snap.

While running drills at practice Thursday, Worthy was wearing a white protective sleeve on his right arm that included padding at the upper arm and shoulder.

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce accepts blame for injury to teammate

Tight end Travis Kelce said he accepts full responsibility for his role on the play in which teammate Xavier Worthy was injured during the Kansas City Chiefs’ season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo.

Speaking on the “New Heights” podcast that he co-hosts with his brother, Jason, Kelce said there’s “no excuse” for his placement on a crossing route in which Worthy sustained a right shoulder injury. The speedy Worthy did not return to the game for the Chiefs (0-1), who dropped a 27-21 decision to the Chargers on Friday.

“I ran into one of my guys and offed him out of the game. I literally took one of my players out.” Kelce said. “That’s one of the most frustrating parts, and it’s hard to get your juices back going knowing you just hurt a guy.”

Kelce, a four-time All-Pro and 10-time Pro Bowl selection, broke down his expected role on the play.

“I’m supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy, so it’s frustrating for me. I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get in a position and it all just happened pretty quick. And I just got to be better man,” he said. “I’m 13 years in the league. There’s no excuse for me running into my own guys like that. Worthy has his guy beat and we’re out the gate, and that game starts completely different.”

Kelce, 35, admitted to struggling to clear his head during the first half.

“I owe my guy big time. X knows it,” said Kelce, who finished with two catches for 47 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.

“I felt like (expletive). I could barely even (expletive) play the rest of that first half but we geared it up once I found that he was in better spirits than I imagined at halftime.”

Worthy’s availability is in question for the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX rematch against the visiting Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) on Sunday.

“I’m not sure where he’s at health-wise, but I’m hoping that we get him back as fast as possible because he means so much to this team,” Kelce said. “I can see that guy and how hard he works, and I can see his game getting better and I know he’s going to take the league by storm when he gets back.”

Rice was disciplined for his role in a multi-car, chain-reaction collision on a Dallas freeway in 2024 and subsequently leaving the scene.

Status of Chiefs WRs Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals unclear for Sunday vs. Eagles

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was non-committal about the status of wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals for Sunday’s home opener against Philadelphia when addressing media members Monday.

Coming off a rookie season where he led all Chiefs wide receivers with 638 yards and six touchdowns, Worthy sustained a dislocated shoulder on the third offensive play of the Chiefs’ season-opening 27-21 loss to the Chargers in Sao Paulo.

Reports have indicated Worthy has been evaluated for whether or not this injury will require surgery. Reid didn’t rule him out for this week when discussing his status.

“I know Xavier is the big question. He’s rehabbing and working his shoulder,” Reid said. “We’ll see where it goes, day by day, here. We’ll see where we end up.”

A potential Worthy replacement, rookie Jalen Royals, has been sidelined for a few weeks due to a knee injury, and was inactive for the team’s first game.

“Jalen is doing a good job with his rehab. We’ll just see how that ends up this week,” Reid said. “We’ve got a couple of days here that we’ve had. Guys are making good progress. But we’ll see where it rolls. If neither (Worthy nor Royals) play, we’ve got guys that we played with the other night that are good football players.”

The only wide receiver on the Chiefs’ practice squad they could promote if Worthy and/or Royals are out Sunday against the Eagles (1-0) is rookie Jimmy Holiday.

Kansas City is shorthanded at the position partly due to the absence of Rashee Rice, who is serving a six-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Rice was disciplined for his role in multiple car accidents on a Dallas freeway in 2024 and subsequently leaving the scene.

During Monday’s availability, Reid said he “didn’t have enough money to do all that” when asked if he planned to contact the NFL for an explanation as to why Chargers defensive lineman Teair Tart wasn’t ejected in Friday’s game for striking Travis Kelce.

“I don’t understand that by rule. I guess it’s open hand, fist, whatever, I don’t know all of that what their decision was on that but he definitely got hit in the head pretty hard,” Reid said.”I think it’s the open hand-closed hand deal. I don’t know how you determine that, but which hurts more.”

Report: Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy nursing dislocated shoulder

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy sustained a dislocated right shoulder after colliding with teammate Travis Kelce in the team’s season opener, NFL Network reported Sunday.

Per the report, Worthy is seeking a second opinion.

The Chiefs are bracing for the speedy wideout to miss an unspecified amount of time while he recovers from the injury. It’s possible Worthy will be wearing a brace to provide some protection to his shoulder when he returns, per the report.

Worthy played just three snaps before colliding with Kelce on an underneath crossing route in Kansas City’s 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Marquise Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton are expected to see more action while Worthy recovers.

Rice was disciplined for his role in a multi-car, chain-reaction collision on a Dallas freeway in 2024 and subsequently leaving the scene.

The Chiefs (0-1) host the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) in a Super Bowl LIX rematch in Week 2.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy (shoulder) exits on first drive vs. Chargers

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy exited after the third offensive play of Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and is questionable to return with a right shoulder injury.

Worthy was running an underneath pattern when he collided with teammate Travis Kelce. Worthy appeared to be in intense pain when walking to the sideline and again when he was led to the locker room in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Rice was disciplined for his role in multiple car accidents on a Dallas freeway in 2024 and subsequently leaving the scene.
