Reports: Ravens give WR Zay Flowers 5th-year, $27.3M extension

The Baltimore Ravens picked up wide receiver Zay Flowers’ option for his fifth NFL season, multiple outlets reported Thursday.

He will play the 2026 season on the final season of his four-year, $14 million rookie contract, with the $27.3 million option covering the 2027 season.

The two sides still are likely to negotiate a contract extension in the coming months, although the wide receiver market has been reset. Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seattle Seahawks, also selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, recently signed a contract that will make him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL — four years for $168.6 million, or an annual average value of about $42 million.

The deadline to pick up the fifth-year option for 2023 first-round picks is May 1.

Flowers, 25, was the No. 22 overall pick out of Boston College in 2023.

In three seasons and 50 games (48 starts), he has 237 catches for 3,128 yards and 14 touchdowns. He had back-to-back seasons of 1,000 yards in 2024 and ’25 and was selected to the Pro Bowl both seasons.

His 1,211 receiving yards in 2025 are a franchise record for a wide receiver. He already ranks in the top five in Ravens history for pass receptions and yardage.

WR Zay Flowers blames ex-coach for Ravens’ injury issues

Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers theorized the cause of injury issues in Baltimore was former coach John Harbaugh’s demanding practice schedule.

Flowers said on the podcast “4th and South” the Ravens were in “full pads all the time” and didn’t have ample time for recovery and treatment of injuries. Harbaugh was fired at the end of the 2025 regular season after 19 years with the team and quickly hired by the New York Giants.

“However many practices in pads you can get, every single one. We’re doing one-on-ones in Week 17,” said Flowers. “Week 17, we’re doing one-on-ones, everybody out there, we’re tired, we’re still going.”

Padded practices are permitted under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement with restrictions. A total of 14 padded practices — and no more than one padded practice per week — are allowed during the regular season. Eleven of the total padded practices in the regular season must be held during the first 11 weeks of the season.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson was a regular non-participant in practices last season. When was asked how players handled Harbaugh’s practice schedule, Flowers replied, “We don’t. That’s why we had a lot of injuries, because of how we practiced, how we went. The load was heavy.”

Former Ravens assistant Jesse Minter, hired to replace Harbaugh, is making changes after hearing from players, according to Flowers.

“He knows how we worked with Harbaugh,” Flowers said. “So, he’s like, ‘You’re going to get your work, but it’s going to be a little easier on your body. You’re going to be fresher for the game.’”

Minter worked for Harbaugh and the Ravens from 2017-20 and joined Jim Harbaugh as defensive coordinator at Michigan in 2022 and 2023. When Jim Harbaugh won a national title with the Wolverines and returned to the NFL as head coach of the Chargers, he hired Minter as his defensive coordinator (2024-25).

John Harbaugh led the Ravens to six AFC North titles and a Super Bowl in the 2012 postseason, compiling an overall record of 193-124.

Bengals WR Tee Higgins added to Pro Bowl roster

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins has replaced the Baltimore Ravens’ Zay Flowers on the AFC roster for the Pro Bowl Games.

Higgins, who was a second alternate, collects his first Pro Bowl honor after wide receiver Flowers, selected for two consecutive seasons, opted out.

In their fourth year, the Pro Bowl Games — which include week-long skills competitions and a flag football game — will be played in San Francisco ahead of Super Bowl LX. Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Steve Young will serve as coaches for the flag football game, slated for Feb. 3.

Higgins, who turned 27 on Jan. 18, caught 59 passes for 846 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns in 15 games (14 starts). The 11 TD receptions led all AFC players and tied for second in the league behind the Los Angeles Rams’ Davante Adams (14).

Teammate Ja’Marr Chase also was selected, giving Cincinnati two receivers in the same Pro Bowl for the first time since 2007, when Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmanzadeh were selected.

Higgins has 389 career receptions for 5,441 yards and 45 touchdowns in 85 regular-season games (76 starts) since 2020. He also has 31 catches for 457 yards and three TDs in seven playoff games (six starts).

Cincinnati selected Higgins in the second round (33rd overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Clemson.

Ravens WR Zay Flowers practicing with ‘no limits’ in OTAs

After missing the Baltimore Ravens’ two playoff games in January with a right knee sprain, wide receiver Zay Flowers is reportedly on track to return to full strength after avoiding offseason surgery.

Flowers suffered the injury in the regular-season finale against Cleveland, resulting in the wideout watching from the sidelines as the Ravens fell in the divisional round.

According to Baltimore’s team website, Flowers assured that his “knee’s great” and that he’s “ready for the season, no limits.”

A 2023 first-round pick by the Ravens out of Boston College, Flowers led Baltimore with 74 catches and 1,059 receiving yards in 2024. He also hauled in four touchdown passes and became the first Raven to be selected to the Pro Bowl at wide receiver.

With him now practicing at the team’s OTAs, Baltimore offensive coordinator Todd Monken emphasized that the Ravens need to prepare to increase Flowers’ production in 2025.

“We’ve just got to get him the ball more,” Monken said, via the team’s website. “He’s an unbelievable football player. He’s not only an outside receiver that has elite route-running skills, but he’s unbelievable with the ball in his hands.

“So you have a guy that really plays two spots. … I expect him to take another leap. When you make it to the Pro Bowl, or you’re an All-Pro, you’re pretty good.”

In two years with the Ravens, Flowers has totaled 151 catches for 1,917 yards and nine touchdowns.

Ravens WR Zay Flowers (knee) inactive vs. Bills

Baltimore wide receiver Zay Flowers is inactive for the Ravens’ game against the host Buffalo Bills in the AFC divisional round on Sunday evening.

The Ravens had listed Flowers as doubtful for the playoff game because of a knee injury, but head coach John Harbaugh held out hope on Friday that the second-year receiver had “a chance” to play.

Flowers missed the entire week of practice after being sidelined all last week and sitting out Baltimore’s wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Jan. 11.

He sustained the knee injury during Baltimore’s 35-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns in the regular-season finale on Jan. 4.

Selected to his first Pro Bowl, Flowers led the Ravens this season with 74 receptions for 1,059 yards. He also caught four touchdowns.

Flowers, 24, started all 16 games as a rookie in 2023, when he had 77 receptions for 858 yards and five TDs, and rushed eight times for 56 yards and another score. The Ravens selected him with the 22nd overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Boston College.

The Ravens’ other inactives are running back Rasheen Ali, linebacker Adisa Isaac, center Nick Samac, nose tackle Josh Tupou and safeties Beau Brade and Marcus Williams.

The Bills’ inactive players are wide receiver Jalen Virgil, defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, cornerbacks Kaiir Elam and Brandon Codrington, offensive linemen Sedrick Van-Pran Granger and Ryan Van Demark, and emergency third quarterback Mike White.

Ravens’ John Harbaugh: WR Zay Flowers has ‘chance’ to play vs. Bills

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh refused to rule out Zay Flowers for Sunday’s AFC divisional playoff game against the host Buffalo Bills despite seeing his wide receiver sit out practice all week.

Later Friday, the Ravens listed Flowers as doubtful to play against the Bills.

“I think he’ll have a chance (to play),” Harbaugh said prior to Friday’s practice of Flowers, who sustained a knee injury during the Ravens’ 35-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Jan. 4.

Flowers didn’t practice at all last week and was ruled out of Baltimore’s wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Saturday.

Selected to his first Pro Bowl, Flowers led the Ravens this season with 74 receptions for 1,059 yards. He caught four passes for touchdowns.

Flowers, 24, started all 16 games as a rookie in 2023, when he had 77 receptions for 858 yards and five TDs, and rushed eight times for 56 yards and another score. The Ravens selected him with the 22nd overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Boston College.

Baltimore returner/receiver Deonte Harty (knee) is listed as questionable after practicing all week. Harty would have to be activated from injured reserve to play Sunday.

Ravens WR Zay Flowers (knee) day-to-day

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers avoided a season-ending right knee injury and is day-to-day, head coach John Harbaugh said Monday.

Flowers left the regular-season finale on Saturday against the visiting Cleveland Browns with what was feared to be a long-term lower-leg injury.

“It’s not a season-ending injury. It’s going to be day-to-day and him doing everything he can do to get back as soon as he can,” Harbaugh said.

Flowers caught a 12-yard pass from quarterback Lamar Jackson and went to the ground at the Cleveland 12-yard line, where he was hit on the knee by Mohamoud Diabate as the Browns linebacker fell to the turf.

After getting medical attention on the field, Flowers walked with a slight limp to the sidelines with 12:03 to go in the quarter. He went to the blue medical tent before leaving the sideline for the locker room. The Ravens ruled him out for the rest of the game.

Flowers, 24, finished with the one catch.

Elected to his first Pro Bowl, Flowers leads the Ravens with 74 receptions for 1,059 yards. He caught four touchdown receptions.

He has not missed a game because of injury in his two seasons.

Flowers started all 16 games as a rookie in 2023, when he had 77 receptions for 858 yards and five TDs, and rushed eight times for 56 yards and another score. The Ravens selected him with the 22nd overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Boston College.
