Emporia State wide receiver Austin Willis runs 4.3 for NFL scouts

Emporia State wide receiver Austin Willis is making a strong impression on NFL scouts. The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder an the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds and had a 39 1/2 inch vertical leap, a 10-5 broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 21 times during his Pro Day workout. Willis has been training on campus. Ten of his 45 receptions as a junior were touchdowns as he finished with 911 yards despite missing two games with an ankle injury and was named second-team all-conference. Willis was leading the nation through the sixth week of the season until his quarterback got hurt. Through five games, Willis had 545 yards and six touchdowns with 29 receptions. Willis originally attended Emporia State on a track scholarship before walking onto the football team. As a sophomore, he had 26 catches for 329 yards and two touchdowns after two years on the track team. Willis was an all-city selection growing up in Shawnee Heights, Kan., in football, wrestling and track. Willis was a team captain at Emporia State.
