Source; Cowboys sign Brandon Smith to two-year deal
The Dallas Cowboys signed former Buffalo Bills cornerback Brandon Smith to a two-year contract, according to a league source.
Smith has run the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds with a 40-inch vertical leap and bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder excels in press coverage and is a converted wide receiver. He played wide receiver for the Carolina Panther and Seattle Seahawks.
Smith converted to cornerback at the suggestion of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who recruited him as a cornerback out of high school when Carroll was at USC. Smith wound up playing for Arizona State as a receiver. Smith has also played for the Green Bay Packers.
Smith played in 25 career games in college as a receiver. Injuries, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament, affected his career production.
