Two injuries a blow to Packers defense in preseason opener

The Green Bay Packers know full well they need to be a better defensive football team this season to avoid an unexpected and quick exit from the playoffs.

But they suffered what could be a significant loss in the preseason opener as linebacker Desmond Bishop had to be helped off the field following a knee injury Thursday night in San Diego. Bishop had a player land on his extended leg with full force.

Desmond's injury didn't look very good,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said, according to Tol Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Hopefully, we'll get some good news as testing goes on.”

Per the report, Bishop told teammates he was optimistic the injury was not season ending. McCarthy said it could be a knee and hamstring issue.

Wose, Davon House, a potential starter at cornerback, suffered a shoulder injury playing on special teams in the second half.

“I really don't remember too much," House said. "I was trying to get by the guy and threw my arm and next thing I knew there was a sharp pain. I'll get X-rays tomorrow. Hopefully, it just popped out."

This could be the kind of 1-2 punch the Packers were hoping to avoid.
