In sports, the "vote of confidence" is like a kiss of death, it seems.

But on Monday, Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross showed public support from embattled head coach Tony Sparano, saying the organization needs to "really get behind our coach," on the team's in-house radio station, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The Dolphins are now 0-4 and have actually lost seven straight dating back to last season. In between, Ross openly courted Jim Harbaugh, who instead became head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, who improved to 3-1 on Sunday.

So if things don't turn around soon for Sparano, "getting behind the coach" might be interpreted as lining up to boot him out the door.
