Jets get past Broncos to earn fourth straight win

Breece Hall ran for 72 yards and a score before leaving with a knee injury, Greg Zuerlein kicked three field goals and the New York Jets beat the host Denver Broncos 16-9 on Sunday.

Zach Wilson was 16-for-26 passing for 121 yards for New York (5-2), which has won four straight and improved to 4-0 on the road.

Latavius Murray ran for a score, Brett Rypien was 24-for-46 passing for 225 yards and an interception and Jerry Jeudy had seven receptions for 96 yards for the Broncos (2-5).

Rypien made his second career start in place of Russell Wilson, who was out with a hamstring injury.

The Jets took the lead when Hall ran 62 yards for a score and a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

The Broncos responded with a 13-play, 75-yard drive on the ensuing possession, capped by Murray’s two-yard TD run, but the extra point was missed.

The Broncos drove to the New York 38 but Brandon McManus’ 56-yard field goal was wide right. He made up for it on the next Denver drive, connecting from 44 yards out to give the Broncos a 9-7 lead.

The Jets got the ball at their own 25 and Hall left the game after a 2-yard run to start the drive. Wilson guided New York down to the Denver 27 and Zuerlein kicked a 45-yard field goal as time expired to put the Jets ahead 10-9 at halftime.

Both teams punted on their first three possessions of the second half before Lamarcus Joyner intercepted Rypien at the New York 36 and returned it to the Broncos’ 37. Seven plays later Zuerlein hit from 33 yards out to stretch the lead to 13-9 early in the fourth quarter.

Denver went three-and-out on its next possession and the Jets used 6 minutes and 12 seconds to go 50 yards for Zuerlein’s 40-yard field goal that made it a seven-point game with 4:35 left.

The Broncos drove to midfield with 37 seconds left but Rypien’s fourth-down pass to the end zone was broken up to seal the game.
