Browns DE Myles Garrett dislocates toe in Pro Bowl Games

Taking tackling out of the equation did not prevent all injuries at the inaugural Pro Bowl Games.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett limped off the field during one of Sunday’s flag football games in Las Vegas, and the team later confirmed reports that Garrett had dislocated his toe.

X-rays on the toe came back negative, the Browns added. It was unclear how long the injury would sideline Garrett as the offseason gets under way.

The former No. 1 overall draft pick in 2017 was a Pro Bowl selection for the fourth time. In 16 games (15 starts) in the 2022 season, Garrett racked up 16 sacks (matching his career high), two forced fumbles and 60 total tackles.

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (toe) returns to practice

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers practiced on Friday for the first time since breaking his left pinkie toe more than three weeks ago.

Rodgers, who played through the pain in Green Bay’s past three games, appears to have benefited from the extra downtime during the bye week.

“The biggest key is rest,” he said during an appearance earlier this week on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “I wish there was another one of these (bye) weeks so I could get 14 to 21 great days without doing anything, but the toe is improving.”

Rodgers, 38, has completed 66.2 percent of his passes for 2,878 yards with 23 touchdowns and four interceptions in 11 starts this season (9-2 record).

The Packers (9-3) return to action Sunday night against the NFC North rival Chicago Bears (4-8) at Lambeau Field. Rodgers had two touchdown passes and a touchdown run in a 24-14 win at Chicago in Week 6.

Rodgers said he injured the toe while training on his own during his COVID-19 isolation period in early November. The injury could require surgery after the season.

Reports: Aaron Rodgers not pursuing toe surgery during Packers’ bye

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is playing with a fractured pinkie toe, but ESPN and NFL Network reported Monday that he is not planning to undergo surgery to repair the injury this week while the Packers are idle.

The Packers have a bye week in Week 13 before returning to the field Dec. 12 against the Chicago Bears. That would give Rodgers some time for it to heal up before he has to play again.

But Rodgers did not seem hindered by the toe when he threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in Green Bay’s 36-28 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The win lifted the Packers to 9-3.

“The toe felt good most of the game,” Rodgers said Sunday. “Was just actually in talking with the docs. Not sure at this point; we’re going to do some more testing in the morning and get a better view of what’s going on in there, and then make a decision at that time.”

Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Monday that surgery does not appear to be Rodgers’ course of action.

Rodgers said he broke the toe while quarantining with COVID-19 earlier this month. He did not practice all week leading up to the Rams game.

The reigning league MVP has thrown for 2,878 yards, 23 touchdowns and four interceptions with a 66.2 completion percentage in 11 games.

Eagles OL Peters to have toe surgery, miss rest of season

Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jason Peters will have surgery on his injured toe and miss the rest of the season, coach Doug Pederson said Friday.

Peters was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 3 because of the injury, then returned in the Eagles’ win over Dallas on Nov. 1. He left last Sunday’s loss to Green Bay in the third quarter with what was described as a foot injury.

Peters, a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, signed a one-year, $3 million contract in July to play right guard after starter Brandon Brooks suffered an Achilles tendon injury. He could have played his last game in an Eagles uniform.

When the Eagles lost starting left tackle Andre Dillard to a torn biceps muscle in September, it was reported that Peters was seeking more money to return to his old position protecting quarterback Carson Wentz’s blind side. The team restructured his deal last month.

Peters, 38, is in his 16th season in the NFL and has started 203 of his 213 career games with the Buffalo Bills (2004-08) and Eagles, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2011 and 2013.

The Eagles (3-8-1) are set to host the New Orleans Saints (10-2) on Sunday. Quarterback Jalen Hurts will start in place of the struggling Wentz.

Colts QB Rivers misses practice with toe injury

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers will not practice Wednesday due to a toe injury.

Colts coach Frank Reich said before the team’s workout that Rivers could have practiced, but the team went the cautious route. By sitting Rivers on Wednesday he gets two days off, since there’s no practice on Thanksgiving Day.

“We’re going to play it safe,” Reich said.

Rivers, 38, has a streak of 234 consecutive regular season starts. If he would suffer a setback and miss Sunday’s game against the visiting Tennessee Titans (7-3), the Colts (7-3) would turn to 2019 starter Jacoby Brissett.

Rivers has completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 2,683 yards with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 10 starts this season.
