Adrian Peterson eyes Emmitt Smith's rushing mark

Adrian Peterson always aims high.

The Minnesota Vikings running back is eyeing Emmitt Smith's NFL career rushing record.

He hopes to break the record by 2017.

Peterson is also hoping to rush for 2,500 yards this season one year removed from gaining 2,097 yards, eight yards shy of Eric Dickerson's single-season record of 2,105 yards last season.

Peterson, 28, would need to gain 9,506 yards more to tie Smith's all-time rushing record of 18,355 yards. Peterson currently has 8,849 yards.

"That's pushing it, huh?" Peterson told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "But hey, pushing it is the only way to do it. You know it."
