The Arizona Cardinals plan on picking up the phone and reaching out to the agent for free-agent guard Alan Faneca.
Although Darren Urban, who writes for the team’s Web site, said he doesn’t think much will come of it, keep in mind that Faneca has a track record with Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt and influential line coach Russ Grimm from the time they spent together with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Urban speculates that Faneca will be looking for an opportunity to start, and we concur with that. He’ll also be seeking the starter pay that comes along with a starting gig.
The Cardinals are also taking a look at another veteran. Cornerback Justin Miller will participate in the team’s upcoming minicamp on a tryout basis. They want to kick the tires on Miller, a second-round pick by the New York Jets in 2005.
