FB Jason McKie signs with Saints

The New Orleans Saints signed fullback Jason McKie to a one-year contract.

He was released early in the offseason as the Chicago Bears don’t figure in incorporating the position much in their new offense under coordinator Mike Martz. The Temple product spent the last seven seasons with the Bears and has 47 career starts.

McKie has 29 career rushes for 84 yards with three touchdowns and 68 receptions for 364 yards and three scores. He was used a good deal by former Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner in the red zone.

McKie figures to compete for a backup role behind Heath Evans with Zak Keasey and Marcus Malei. New Orleans waived running back Carlos Brown and safety Ryan Hamilton. Both had signed as undrafted rookie free agents. McKie is the second ex-Bear to join the Saints this offseason, following defensive end Alex Brown, who was also released in Chicago.
