Jean-Gilles goes for gastic lap-band

Philadelphia Eagles guard Max Jean-Gilles underwent surgery to have a gastric lap-band placed around his stomach on Tuesday, the team announced on Friday.

Listed at 6-3, 358 pounds, the veteran guard has constantly been haggled about his size by the team and had shot up to more than 400 pounds this offseason, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

His wife Magdala suggested the procedure and Jean-Gilles went for it. He’s now 375 pounds and hopes to be in the neighborhood of 335 for the season. He will be sidelined until June.

"I was just tired of the Eagles telling me that I needed to lose this weight," Jean-Gilles said. "I didn't want to show them that I was complacent about it.

"Football is not forever. I don't want to be 400 pounds after football and have heart problems."
