Leslie Frazier urges caution with Adrian Peterson

Vikings running back off PUP, not all way back yet Brad Biggs

Adrian Peterson has been removed from the physically unable to perform list, cleared to practice with the Minnesota Vikings a little more than two weeks into training camp.

But that doesn’t mean the running back will be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Not just yet. Peterson has made a remarkably swift return from a torn ACL. He had surgery on Dec. 30 – just 7 ½ months ago – and generally it takes nine months to a year to return from such an injury.

That is why Vikings coach Leslie Frazier is urging everyone following the situation to not get ahead of themselves.

I want to caution you," Frazier said, according to Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I know there are a lot of fans that are very optimistic and excited about seeing him back. But for us, it's just a part of the process. It doesn't mean a whole lot other than he's done a great job in his rehab up to this point.
"He's done everything he can do on the side, and now it's the next step in the process. It doesn't mean in the future he's going to be lining up with our team in the opening game (Sept. 9 vs. Jacksonville). We don't know that.”

Peterson must go through two practices without full pads so he cannot put all the gear on until Tuesday. The Vikings are going to be cautious with him in contact drills. It remains to be seen what role he will play in preseason. But Peterson is back at practice.

"I was like a kid in a candy store today when I came out here and they threw me in with the first group," he said. "I was smiling. I had to try to calm myself down. I was going a little too fast for a walk-through in the beginning. For me, this is so satisfying. I had a lot of people doubting me and saying this and saying that. But I kept my faith and kept working hard. Now, I'm back in the mix."
