Pitt selects Chryst as its next head coach

Pittsburgh has found its successor to Todd Graham, selecting Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst as its next head football coach, according to multiple reports.

The Panthers were in search of a new face of the program after Graham left for Arizona State to replace Dennis Erickson on Dec. 14 following one season in the Steel City.

The 46-year-old Chryst was under consideration for the openings at Illinois and Kansas this offseason after being a candidate for Pitt's coaching vacancy last year. He has served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Madison since 2005 after running Oregon State's offense from 2003-04. He previously coached at Wisconsin as its tight ends coach in 2002.

Mario Cristobal, one of the leading candidates for the Pitt opening, is reportedly working on a contract extension that would keep him at FIU after taking the Golden Panthers to bowl games the past two seasons.
