Rashard Mendenhall to retire

Arizona Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall intends to retire, according to ESPN.

NFL teams have been informed of Mendenhall's plans.

He averaged just 3.2 yards per carry last season.

A former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick, Mendenhall has rushed for 4,236 career yards and has scored 39 touchdowns in six NFL seasons.

Mendenhall tore his anterior cruciate ligament in 2011.
