Despite recent speculation to the contrary, it looks like the New York Giants have no intentions of trading away defensive end Osi Umenyiora.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News—citing two league sources—is reporting that Big Blue is not actively shopping the six-year veteran defender, even though the Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams are interested in making a deal.

The 28-year-old Umenyiora—who has started 54 regular season games for the Giants over the past four years—made it clear that he’s been unhappy in New York as of late and even went so far as to threaten to retire if he wasn’t put back on the starting defense.

To make matters more interesting, the rumor mill has be working overtime in the Big Apple lately with talks of the Giants selecting South Florida defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul with the 15th pick and then trading Umenyiora for a second-round selection.

A possible smokescreen? Perhaps. Especially since the entire league knows the Giants need to find a middle linebacker to shore up their defense. However, if Alabama's Rolando McClain is off the board at No. 15, Big Blue is going to need a backup plan.
