A long-term contract extension could be in place for Victor Cruz before the New York Giants hold their mandatory veteran minicamp next month.

The New York Daily News reports that sides are getting closer on a lucrative deal for the wide receiver and both sides “seem certain” it will eventually get done.

The Giants have secured Cruz with a restricted free agent tender of $2.879 million and on June 17 the club has the option of lowering that offer by more than $2 million to $630,000. That is another compelling reason why a deal could be struck in the next month.

Per the report, Cruz initially sought a package worth an average of $10 million to $11 million annually. The Daily News reports Cruz has lowered his demands, closer to what the team is offering – nearly $8 million per season. Perhaps they will find some common ground in the near future.
