Vince Young is not only out of the NFL six years after being the third overall pick in the 2006 draft, but he is also out of funds, according to a report from the Associated Press.

Young was selected by the Tennessee Titans in '06 after leading the University of Texas to a national championship with an incredible performance in the Rose Bowl earlier that year. He signed a six-year, $58 million package with the Titans, including $26 million guaranteed.

He was Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006, but his career was wildly inconsistent after that. Young was released by the Titans after the 2010 season after he melted down in a rant against then-Titans coach Jeff Fisher following a thumb injury in a game against Washington.

Young subsequently signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, who gave him $4 million, and then signed this off-season Buffalo, where he was released in camp, but got to keep a $350,000 signing bonus.

Rumors of Young's money problems began to crop up even when he was still with the Titans, but the story out today documents much of what had been rumored. Young has sued his former agent Major Adams over what he claims was the mishandling of much of his money.

Young is on the hook for nearly $1.7 million for a lockout loan to Pro Player Funding after missing a payment, though he has gone to court, saying it was not his signature on the documents. Young's camp even claims that the distraction of the loan could have played a part in his preseason release by the Bills.

No matter, it is a sad and cautionary tale of yet another athlete who handled his fame and fortune poorly enough to put himself in such a situation.
