Tony Romo has advanced in qualifying play to earn a spot in the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Problem is, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback is going to need a late tee time in the next stage of the event in order to be able to show up. The problem is that qualifying on Monday at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club could conflict with an OTA that morning that the Cowboys have scheduled at Valley Ranch.

What to do?

"If a tee time doesn't work out, you just can't play," Romo told Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News. "At the end of the day, football is what I do. Golf is enjoyable. It's fun to compete and try to be good at it, but it's more fun to compete and get better at football. I think everyone knows that."

That’s a commitment to football that ought to put some Cowboys fans at ease. Romo fired a 72 Tuesday on Stonebridge’s Hills Course to finish in a tie for 20th. The top 23, including ties, advanced. Romo has requested a late tee time, per the report, to make it to the course after practice but nothing is guaranteed at this point. Surely, the Nelson would like any attention Romo could bring to it, so the bet here is he gets the tee time necessary.

There could be a scheduling conflict that does not allow Romo to take part in the open qualifier Monday. The Cowboys start their organized team activities Monday and Romo has requested a late tee time. According to the NTPGA, they will do their best to accommodate Romo so he can attempt to make the Nelson field for the first time.

If Romo doesn’t make it through, he plans on playing in a U.S Open qualifier next week.
