Tony Gonzalez tells Falcons he wants to return

Tony Gonzalez and the Atlanta Falcons are working on a new contract after the future Hall of Fame tight end informed the club he would like to return from 2013.

Gonzalez is singing a much different tune than he was at the end of this past season when he said he was 95 percent sure he was headed to retirement. Now, he will come back for one more season and chase a Super Bowl with the Falcons.

“After discussing it with my family and really, truly struggling with this decision I informed the Falcons I would like to return for one more shot,” Gonzalez told Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.

Reports last week were that Gonzalez would like to go the Brett Favre route and have a reduced workload in the offseason and in training camp. We’ll see how that shakes out for him with the Falcons. It certainly will be easier for the organization to have a tight end skipping some work than the quarterback. That much is for sure.
