Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne is going on vacation.

No, he’s not going to Las Vegas for a bachelor party with Phil, Alan and Stu. And he’s not looking to get away from the cold, bitter winter weather that has taken over the Midwest as of late.

Instead, Wayne will be spending the better portion of his Sunday afternoon-during the AFC Championship game-at the ultra-exclusive “Revis Island.”

Never heard of it? Well, let me give you the quick tour. You see, Revis Island is named after New York Jets Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis-a third-year player out of Pittsburgh. The island-much like the island from the television show “Lost”- moves around. Except this island moves around inside the sidelines of an NFL gridiron-all depending upon where Revis lines up.

Several marquee receivers visited Revis Island this season. Few, were heard from during the three and a half hours they spent there.

And Reggie Wayne could be the next victim.

The tourist

Wayne’s resume is impressive, to say the least. He’s caught for over 1,000 yards in each of his last six seasons, while finding the end zone 52 times during that span.

In 2009, Wayne caught 100 passes (tied for fifth in the NFL) for 1,264 yards (tied for fifth) with 10 touchdowns (tied for seventh). He’s a four-time Pro Bowler (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009), made the All-Pro team in 2007 and won Super Bowl XLI.

And he’s got Peyton Manning throwing him the football.

The destination

Let’s take a look at some of the receivers who took a trip to Revis Island this season.

As you can see, it’s no easy place to play football. The combined statistics from the eight games listed above barely stack-up against the numbers Denver Broncos wideout Brandon Marshall posted in one game this season-Week 14 at Indianapolis.

Ask Chad Ochocino what he thinks about Revis Island. The Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl wide receiver went up against Revis in the first round of this year’s playoffs.

He caught just two passes for 28 yards. With no touchdowns.

The reason why so many wideouts have been shut-down by Revis? Simple. The guy is a baller.

Revis has great speed, reliable hands and is extremely smart. He knows how to get in between the receiver and the ball, keeps his eyes on the quarterback and is very fluid in and out of his breaks. He knows how to read a receiver’s movements and he knows how to jump routes. His six interceptions this season tied for fifth in the NFL and his 31 pass deflections tied for first. Revis was named to the 2009 All-Pro team and finished second (to Green Bay’s Charles Woodson) in the voting for the 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

This Sunday at 3:00pm eastern, Reggie Wayne is headed to Revis Island.

And it’s definitely must-see TV.
