Victor Cruz in walking boot, not giving up on playing in opener

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is in a walking boot and on crutches due to a heel contusion.

Cruz isn't giving up hope on being ready for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Cruz didn't tear his heel, but did sustain damage that will take some time to heal.

"Once swelling goes down, I think I'll be OK," Cruz told reporters, adding that he expects to play against the Cowboys on Sept. 8.

Cruz was signed to a $46 million contract this summer and the Giants need him to get healthy quickly.
