The Minnesota Vikings were awarded veteran running back Ben Tate off waivers from the Cleveland Browns, according to a league source.

Tate had complained repeatedy about his diminished role and having to split time with rookie running backs Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell. He rushed for minus-9 yards on two carries against the Houston Texans.

Tate was signed to a two-year, $6.2 million contract during the offseason.

He was previously a backup for the Texans behind Arian Foster.
