49ers sift through options, sign WR Brett Swain

The San Francisco 49ers have signed wide receiver Brett Swain to help at a position that has been wiped out by injuries.

The team put a host of veterans through a tryout, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, including T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Chris Chambers, Brian Finneran and Swain.

The Niners need help after Josh Morgan suffered a fractured lower leg in garbage time of Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Morgan was the team’s leading receiver. Veteran Braylon Edwards is still out of action and that left just Michael Crabtree, Ted Ginn Jr. and Kyle Williams as healthy receivers for Sunday’s game at Detroit.

Apparently, Swain showed the most.
