Light treads lightly talking of Umenyiora

There is apparently no love lost between New England Patriots left tackle Matt Light and New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who figure to clash often on Sunday.

A history between the two dates back to Super Bowl XLII four years ago when Umenyiora accused Light of dirty play leading up to that epic game.

Earlier this season when the Giants beat the Patriots, there was an incident where Light pushed Umenyiora over a teammate and onto the pile and landed on top of him in a scrum. But the Patriots tackle tells the Newark Star-Ledger that he doesn't consider Umenyiora really a rival, just two guys who don't particularly care for each other on the football field going at it.

“Can you have an individual rivalry?” Light asked. “I thought rivalries were maybe between teams in general. Hey look, I’m ready to go out there and play whatever game I’ve got to play. We’ll have fun doing it. I’m not sure that comes with a personal level, though.”

Light had been under the weather and made his first media appearance on Wednesday, to which Umenyiora passed along "get well soon" wishes, apparently in a sarcastic manner.

While the war of words has been touched off, whoever wins that key battle on the field could have plenty to say in which team prevails on Sunday.
