Report: QB Taylor won’t file grievance vs. Chargers

No grievance will be filed by quarterback Tyrod Taylor against the Los Angeles Chargers or the team physician who erred in providing a pain-killing injection that ruptured Taylor’s lung.

NFL Network reported Wednesday that Taylor informed the NFLPA he wouldn’t file a grievance.

The injection provided to Taylor prior to the Chargers’ Week 2 game resulted in medical issues and cost Taylor the starting quarterback job. While he was out recovering from the mishap, rookie first-round pick Justin Herbert emerged as the No. 1 quarterback.

Taylor requested the injection prior to the game in an attempt to mask rib pain and play in the Chargers’ contest with the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead of being on the field, he was taking to the hospital before the game and began treatment for a punctured lung.

Taylor was inactive for a month and unable to practice from Sept. 20 until he was cleared to return Oct. 22.

The 31-year-old is set to make $5 million in 2020 and previously started games for the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns.

With Philip Rivers, drafted in 2004 and the team’s starter from 2006-2019, signing with the Indianapolis Colts, head coach Anthony Lynn named Taylor the starting quarterback entering the regular season.

He injured his ribs in the opener at Cincinnati, a 16-13 victory over the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium.
