Will the Rams select DT Ndamukong Suh or QB Sam Bradford with the first overall pick? Will the Lions address the defense or look for another playmaker? Check out the NFP's Mock Draft 1.0. Wes Bunting
The National Football Post unveils its first mock draft of the season. The NFL Draft is scheduled April 22-24 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
1. St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
The Rams need a franchise quarterback they can begin to build around, and Bradford looks to be the draft’s best option.
2. Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
With needs on both sides of the ball, the Lions have the “luxury” of taking the best prospect available. Suh fills a major void inside.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
The Bucs are another team with needs across the board, so getting a talent like McCoy, who can instantly help stabilize their defensive line, makes sense.
4. Washington Redskins: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
Quarterbacks never last long on draft day, and Clausen has the pedigree to intrigue the Redskins’ new coaching staff.
5. Kansas City Chiefs: Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
Until the Chiefs do a better job protecting their quarterback, the offense will continue to struggle. Finding a legitimate left tackle has to be one of the main goals for the Kansas City brass this offseason.
6. Seattle Seahawks: Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
Offensive line is an area of need, but with a talent like Berry still on the board and the luxury of having the 14th overall pick, expect the Seahawks to go with the best prospect available.
7. Cleveland Browns: Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama
McClain is one of the draft’s elite prospects. He not only fills a position of need for the Browns but is the type of player you can build a defense around.
8. Oakland Raiders: Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
Dunlap is a physical freak who possesses the size/speed numbers needed to impress Oakland’s owner and front office.
9. Buffalo Bills: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
Davis gives the Bills a powerful left tackle prospect who can win in both the run and pass game.
10. Denver Broncos: Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
Cody might seem like a bit of a reach here, but the Broncos have to find a nose tackle inside who can anchor their 3-4 defense if they expect to stop the run in 2010.
11. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
Jacksonville still lacks a legitimate No. 1 threat on the outside, and Bryant has the ability to develop into one of the league’s best very quickly.
12. Miami Dolphins: Brandon Graham, DE/OLB, Michigan
After Graham’s brilliant Senior Bowl performance, there’s no reason to think he isn’t a possible fit in Miami.
13. San Francisco 49ers: Joe Haden, CB, Florida
With questions at cornerback in San Francisco, Haden seems to be too good a value to pass up.
14. Seattle Seahawks: Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
Seattle needs to add some thump to its run game, and with a deep class of offensive tackles, I can see the Seahawks waiting to address their needs at offensive line.
15. New York Giants: Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
The Giants are never shy about adding talented pass rushers early on draft day, and Morgan certainly fits the prototypical mold New York is looking for.
16. San Francisco 49ers: Chad Jones, S, LSU
Jones is one of the most impressive looking athletes in this year’s draft and has the range, ball skills and savvy to make plays in an NFL secondary.
17. Tennessee Titans: Brian Price, DT, UCLA
The Titans need to find a guy who can create a little more havoc inside for their defense, and Price has the ability to be a disruptive force at the next level.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers: Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
Bulaga gives the Steelers the type of athlete they need to anchor the left side of their offensive line. Plus, he doubles as an impressive run blocker.
19. Atlanta Falcons: Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
Wilson really made a statement at the Senior Bowl and now looks like one of the prospects in the mix to be the second cornerback off the board.
20. Houston Texans: Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee
In order for the Texans to take the next step, it’s vital that they get more physical up front. Williams gives them that type of presence inside.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida
The Bengals are in need of an athletic tight end who can stretch defenses down the seam and consistently separate vs. man coverage. Hernandez looks like a great fit.
22. New England Patriots: Jahvid Best, RB, California
I know the Patriots have needs along their defensive front seven, but adding a talent like Best, who can run out of the gun and take pressure off the New England pass game, might be too good to pass up.
23. Green Bay Packers: Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
Campbell is a little raw, but he’s the kind of long, laterally gifted athlete who can quickly develop into a bona fide left tackle in the NFL.
24. Philadelphia Eagles: John Jerry, OT/OG, Ole Miss
The Eagles have questions all over their offensive line, and Jerry gives them a big, versatile lineman who could mature into a very good right tackle or guard.
25. Baltimore Ravens: Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU
LaFell is the type of playmaker who can help generate yards down the field in the pass game.
26. Arizona Cardinals: Ricky Sapp, DE/OLB, Clemson
With age creeping into the Cardinals’ linebacking corps, Sapp adds some youth and quick-twitch pass rush ability to the unit.
27. Dallas Cowboys: Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho
Iupati has the type of physically imposing presence the Cowboys love inside, and he should quickly carve out a niche as a starter at the next level.
28. San Diego Chargers: C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson
With all the question marks surrounding the Chargers’ running back position, bringing in a talent like Spiller late in round one would be quite a find.
29. New York Jets: Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois
Placing as many weapons as possible around QB Mark Sanchez has to be one of the major goals for the Jets’ front office this offseason.
30. Minnesota Vikings: Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida
Pierre-Paul is the type of athlete who has the ability to take the Vikings’ defense to another level opposite Jared Allen.
31. Indianapolis Colts: Jason Worilds, DE, Virginia Tech
The Colts never seem to have enough undersized pass rushers, and Worilds certainly has the kind of first step needed to fit the bill.
32. New Orleans Saints: Sergio Kindle, OLB/DE, Texas
Kindle is the kind of pass rusher who can be used all over the Saints’ front seven and gives New Orleans even more versatility up front.

I agree, pretty good mock draft. I doubt the Redskins go for Clausen or any QB at 4 though. They are desperate for OL help. I think their first choice would be to move down, their second would be Okung or Davis and their third would be a QB. Shanahan and Bruce Allen are playing their cards close to their vests at this point, but I think the fans will cut them a lot of slack no matter what they do.
Cody is such a question mark with his work ethic and weight, I think the Broncos will avoid him and go after Dez Bryant or Dan Williams. Just a guess.
Let me get this straight:
The Patriots take Best OVER Spiller, and then the Packers pass on Spiller?!?!?
I like both, but Spiller is more of a complete back, and Best is a burner, I doubt either will last that long.
After the top 3 RBs, there is a big drop off.
In a draft so deep with DL and OL, I could see people snatching up the other positions in round 1, and the big run on trenchmen happening in round 2.
Thoughts?

God, I hope you're right. Iupati for the Cowboys at 27 is a dream come true.
As a huge Seahawks fan, I see some issues with the Hawks going with Eric Berry with their first pick:
Yes they do need help at Safety however dont you think Pete Carrol will try and wait to fill that need till later and go after his guy Taylor Mays especially since his stock dropped a bit from the Senior Bowl?
With the new Offensive Coaches being huge in the development of the Zone Run Blocking Scheme and the history of Denver getting SO much production out of no name Running Backs do you not see them trying to get a top notch Offensive Lineman and get a Running Back in the later rounds as well? Plus everyone is sleeping on Justin Forsett, this guy is a very good back, he might not be able to carry the WHOLE load but he will be productive if they get a good base on the line. One more point to add, Matty is getting up there in NFL age, he still can play but they need to keep him up right and confident in his lines ability to allow him to actually STEP INTO his throws!
I see them going OL with the first pick, then possibly Matty's replacement at QB with there 2nd pick. Then addressing the RB and S positions in the later rounds.
What do you think?
Man if we can get our hands of Campbell I would be absolutely ecstatic! One thing that scares me though is the fact that James Campen will be teaching him and his track record of developing Offensive Lineman isn't too impressive. No way Ted passes on Campbell if he's there though, again love the pick.

With Cleveland, just do not think they can pass on a shutdown cb like Haden.
Cody might have a lot of questioners about him, but most NTs do because of their weight issues, Casey Hampton is a prime example.
Dwyer stock has really risen, but that high? he would have to have a brilliant combine, or pro day, as doubt he will do much at combine.
Unless something is up with Donovan Warren, do not see Wilson going before him at CB
This is the only real pick in your mock that I simply could not see happening in a million years. Hernandez going to Cincy. When has the bangals ever used a TE in their offense? Even Tony McGee was a decent receiving TE, that they never used. And he is better then Gresham, if so, how?
After Bryant, the WRs are a crap shoot, as there are about 5 who all have the same simply about the same, til they distinguish themselves.
And ya, I do agree JPP is way too low
Was a great read, hope you keep it updated
There is NO WAY the 9ers leave the first round without a tackle.
Eric Mangini and Mike Holmgren have a history of placing CB as a top priority in the 1st round. One of the Browns' problems last year was defending the pass, so I think if Joe Haden is there, they're not going to take an ILB over him. Getting Haden would allow Eric Wright to move to the #2 corner spot and Brandon McDonald to the nickel where he's better suited to be.
Love your mock draft Wes. I'm surprised to see John Jerry (ahead of Mike Iupati) and Jason Worlids in the first round.
As a Patriots-Fan I need to ask you: Why Best and not Spiller? Could you also see them "reach" for a guy like Odrick?
Really Ross? A Dream come true? You dream of such things??

Has Bulaga officially announced that he will be skipping his senior year and entering the draft?
I love the idea of Best in New England but that's assuming Spiller was gone when they pick. I just don't see Spiller falling this far.
I like this a lot. No question St. Louis has to consider Bradford at #1. He's still the best QB this year. He's probably the best I've seen play in college for the last 3 years. I question 3 HBs going in this draft simply because HBs are now being used as interchangeable weapons rather than as full-time players. I actually agree that Best is a first rounder simply because he is the truest "weapon" of the group. Call me crazy but I wasn't all that impressed with what I saw from Iupati at the senior bowl. I was sure he'd fall back out of the first round but now people are talking about him as though he's the next Steve Hutchinson.
Wes, any chance you might do the second round? I'm even more excited to see your 2nd and 3rd round projections because I believe that's where your film-study skill will really be valuable.
I hate this mock draft. If this is how it's looking at the top, Seattle needs to trade up in order to ensure it gets one of the top-2 Quarterbacks.
-I don't think the Rams go for Bradford with the number one pick. He would be too expensive. Suh give you the best player in the draft and soilidifies the d-line. they can pick McCoy, I know he has arm strenth issues, but guess what, so did Drew Brees when SD let him go, in the second round and get a decent QB for a cheeper price. they may pick up Vick, but I think they should put in for David Carr. Carr got his butt kicked in houston, but he is still a decent QB and when he gets some time he can be very effective. That would give McCoy a year or so to get acclimated to the NFL without having to get killed.
-I don't think McCoy makes it to the Bucs, so they'll probably go with Berry.
-The Seahawks need to protect Hassel-I-need-a-new-back before they go with def.
-Agreed that SF won;t leave the first round with out a tackle. OL is one of there major needs. I think they grab Earl Thomas st safety though.
-Oakland won't draft a DE that early (although it is Al and I would be suprised if he takes a flier on a back up punter at this point) I think they get it right and draft o-line.
Just my thoughts.
The Chiefs are NOT going to take a LT at #5, 2 years after they took a franchise LT in Albert, that has proven that he can play the position at a high level in the NFL. It's actually taking a Guard at #5, and that just isn't going to happen. Amazing how many national mocks that didn't watch the Chiefs closely, and didn't see the massive improvement in Albert's game late in the season have this one wrong.
seriously? the seahawks will not draft a rb in the first round. their need at O-LINE and D-LINE is drastically higher than any other position.

Every time I refresh the scree my post duplicates itself....interesting.....
ok i like 13 with haden but why in the hell would we get Chad Jones with the other pick instead of Bulaga? Chad is a round 2 prospect

Does anyone believe Bradford goes number one?
Does anyone believe Bradford goes number one?
Bet Tampa is on the trade block at three overall, they don't seem enamoured in spending.
Carrol probably goes for a QB if he can move up. What do you think his opinion on Clausen is, having beaten him?
Love Anthony Davis up there, he may not be the drive blocker, but Rutgers did run their share when he was there. He is a great pass blocker and it is a passer's league. He should be way up the boards as a pass protedctor, far more polished than the up and comers from Sr. Bowl week.
While I would be very happy with Iupati to Dallas, I would be upset if they picked him with Earl Thomas still on the board. O-line is a huge concern for Dallas as was revealed in the butt whooping that they got from Minnesota in the playoffs. However, I think Earl Thomas is a major playmaker who would be an immediate upgrade to the secondary while Iupati still needs a lot of work in pass protection before he can contribute.
RAMS - They might be hesitant drafting Bradford at the top spot. Bradford is the best QB in this draft. The RAMS will question Bradford and his ability to bounce back from a season ending injury. I could see the RAMS trading out of this pick to fill more holes on their team. Other mock drafts show the RAMS drafting Gerald McCoy, this would devastating for opposing QBs giving more room for Long and Carriker. McCoy would also occupy blockers giving more space for Laurinaitis to roam the field.
LIONS - Ndamukong Suh
REDSKINS - If a true franchise player was available then it would be an easy call, but Shanahan may trade out of this pick opting for more picks in order to fill many holes. The only reason I could see the Redskins drafting Clausen at #4 is so Snyder can get a big name to sell. The Redskins should look to address their problems on the Offensive Line by drafting Russell Okung or Anthony Davis with this pick. Tony Pike would be available in the second round and could learn from the side lines for a year or two before taking the field.
BROWNS - So many holes and the Browns need all the help they can get. If there was a WR worthy of a top ten pick they would draft him. C.J Spiller could go to the Browns with this pick.
RAIDERS - Who knows what Al Davis might do... he could very well end up drafting a long snapper at this spot.
The Broncos traded the 14th pick to the Seahawks.
GIANTS - The Giants would be thrilled to have C.J Spiller fall into their laps with the 14th pick. But the Giants will most likely look to the defensive side of the ball and their will be plenty of better options available here other than Derrick Morgan. Both Penn State LB Navorro Bowman and TCU LB Jerry Hughes would be better choices with this pick.
49ERS - Jimmy Clausen... No way Clausen will not fall to them with the 16th pick but they desperately need a QB and they have had success with QBs from Notre Dame. Clausen would be a nice fit in San Francisco and would not be relied upon immediately to carry a team on his shoulders.
TITANS - Brian Price is a third round pick and I don't think the Titans would draft him this high. The Titans will not find a replacement for Haynesworth in this draft, a player of that caliber doesn't come around often. Tennessee DT Dan Williams and Penn State DT Jared Odrick would be better picks here but they are still second round picks on most draft boards. The Titans need to find a replacement for Vanden Bosch and somebody that can help the DL rotation. USC DE Everson Griffen or South Florida DE Jason Pierre-Paul.
PATRIOTS - Jahvid Best would actually make sense as the Pats continue to try and find somebody that can run the ball. The PATS might continue the overhaul on the defense with this pick.
RAVENS - Waiting on Ed Reed. Zibikowski did fill in nicely while Reed was injured but lacks the big play ability of Reed. If Reed does in fact retire the Ravens could draft a
The Colts OL just got their fannies handed to them and they will draft another DE? Doesn't make sense to me.

No way the Rams draft a QB #1. They will get Vick draft Suh and then go for a running back , wide reciever and linebacker. There is no QB in this draft that should be picked #1 overall. They will be a very expensive bust.
The Niners would never consider Chad Jones with Bulaga, Campbell, Iupati, and Spiller still available. This draft is very deep at safety, and while Haden is a no-brainer, Chad Jones with their second pick is ludicrous.
Where is Alex Carrington DE/DT from Arkansas State. He he killed the senior bowl!
Good mock but I seriously doubt that any team in the NFL would take Dwyer over Spiller if they choose to take a back. Plus no way does Morgan slide all the way to 15.

I think there is no way the rams (if they take a dt) Gerald McCoy over nundumking ( i can't spell his name ) suh
how is jonathan dwyer the first back picked? i like spiller, best, matthews and mclusker all above him. i would love the hawks if they got berry, but taking dwyer at 14 is tossing the pick in the garbage. spiller is far better and if he's not available, i think they will go DL (Morgan) or OL (Bulaga).

08:14 PM Where is Alex Carrington DE/DT from Arkansas State. He he killed the senior bowl!"
Shhhhhhh. I'm hoping he is there for Oakland to take.
Other players are valued for other reasons.
UCLA's nose tackle is moving up, Mike L. actually had him going before the 20th pick recently after the Sr.Bowl, he must be moving up. Initially I though he'd be late 2 or an early 3 but if a player makes the OTHER team one dimensional, his stock improves.
That includes a guy who makes the run game a non item, even if he's only out there two downs. There isn't a coordinator out there who wouldn't take third and long every time, who wouldn't love having the ability to keep safeties back and still stop the run. In a amock for a friend, he was trying to project soemthing for the Seahawks and I thought Brian Price would keep people off Lofa and let him run the ball down and hit people. You could maybe move back a bit and get him from where they are, or get him with their second pick of the first round outright.
You are kidding right with the Jones pick? I get the Haden pick for the Niners because they have a need for another cover corner, but Jones instead of Bulaga, Iupati, Spiller or even Dan Williams is a serious reach.
I would like the Falcons to take a pass rusher over a corner. Sergio Kindle would be a great addition. Are their corners available in free agency?
Sorry but you got the Raiders all wrong. While Al Davis does take strange players he doesnt take positions that he doesnt need and DE is one of them. I am not saying that it is out of the question but the much more likely scenario is Davis or Hayden.
I actually have several problems with the mock draft. I believe we will see more trades this year than we ever have in the past. With a couple teams that have 2 1st rd picks this year, I see at least one trade inside the top 5 picks. I also see 2 trades inside the top 10 picks this year. I agree with the guy who said that due to all the success of rookie qbs the past couple years, I can see a qb going #1 overall. I can also see 2 qbs going in the top 10. It will also be interesting to note how free agency shapes up before the draft this year. I expect a couple big singings to shake up everyones mock drafts so i am just going to hold off giving pick predictions right now.

Good mock Wes. I think Cody is way too high though. And Spiller and JPP are too low. Your thoughts on Clausen? People seem to have a love/hate thing going for this guy.
