New England Patriots veteran free agent wide receiver Julian Edelman is scheduled to visit the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, according to a league source.
Edelman had breakthrough season last year where he emerged as Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's favorite target as tight end Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola both dealt with injuries.
Now, he's taking his first visit with the 49ers after he and the Patriots have been unable to work out a compromise so far.
Edelman is an athletic, accomplished pass-catcher who could form a potentially excellent trio with Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree, should a deal be worked out.
Several NFL teams are interested in Edelman after he caught a career-high 105 passes last season for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns.
